Kentucky Jet
Kevin Bookout goes from basketball to shot put to Jets tryout Posted by Michael David Smith on June 29, 2012, 6:38 PM EDT AP Kevin Bookout is already an accomplished two-sport athlete. Now he wants to make it three sports. And the Jets are giving him a chance. Bookout, who played for Oklahoma’s basketball team from 2002 to 2006 and who placed 10th in the shot put at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Sunday, is now attempting to make it in the NFL. The Oklahoman reports that Bookout worked out for the Jets this week at their facilities in Florham Park, New Jersey. Bookout hasn’t played football since ninth grade, and there’s no word on what position the Jets see him playing. As a basketball player he was listed at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds and had the build of a tight end, but he has reportedly bulked up to 320 pounds while focusing primarily on the shot put in recent years, so the Jets may see him as a lineman. There aren’t many 29-year-old rookies who haven’t played football in 15 years who make an NFL roster, so Bookout’s odds would appear to be slim. Then again, there aren’t many 6-foot-8, 320-pounders who are athletic enough to excel in basketball and strong enough to excel in the shot put. It doesn’t hurt for the Jets to take a look, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them make room for him on their 90-man training camp roster. Jetsfan80
Maybe we should spend less time looking at non-football players and focus more on finding our next QB. We don't need any more projects. Vlad is enough.
