Jets expected to pursue Darrelle Revis per Schefter

I think if the JETS are behind this leak it is  really a smart move. They know Pats are on the dock for paying Revis 20 million and the interest the JETS are showing will force Pats hand to keep him. So with them paying Brady and Revis their flexibility to sign new players would be highly reduced.

I would add...If the Pats do cut him - you know Rex is going to go after him with everything he's got.  Get a bidding war going and let the Bills win.

Soooo, Idzik gets killed by everyone and their dog last year for not getting Revis, now that Revis wins the big one with the pats it s time to move on?

I would go after him for sure but the price would have to be right and we would probably get outbid on a short term deal.  I would only sign him for 2-3 years, no one year deal.

Okay. So?

1)  The team has cap money.

2) The present CB's are a disaster unless the young guys get healthy and pick up where they left off.

3)  The new coach plays man on the outside to blitz as the old coach did.

4)  Darrin Walls?

You certainly don't deviate from your plan to sign him just because he is 'Revis' but you for sure explore what he wants and for how long.  Anything less is not doing due diligence.

Absolutely. If he wants a good deal fine. Just don't give him Richard Sherman money at his age.

The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl this year thanks in large part to a defense that was vastly improved from previous seasons. Now, the Pats will be faced with a tough situation with their best defensive player.

Darrelle Revis has a $20 million team option in his contract for 2015. If the Patriots pick it up, he would count $25 million toward the cap next season. Revis’ contract was structured that way to prevent New England from using the franchise tag on him.

Should the Patriots decide $25 million is too much of a cap hit for one player, they’ll have to release Revis and try to work out a long-term extension with him. According to Jason Cole of Bleacher report, they’ll have serious competition from two teams in New York.

“The New York Jets are going to be a major player for this one,” Cole reports. “Rex Ryan up in Buffalo is going to want to bring Revis in no matter what. He loves Revis and Revis loves Rex Ryan. More importantly, Revis really likes New York. He would really consider a reunion with the Jets.”

It’s unclear if the Patriots winning the Super Bowl will make it more or less difficult to keep Revis. One line of thought is that he wants to continue playing for a contender. Others wonder if he’ll try to get every penny he deserves on what will likely be his final big contract.

On Monday, Michael Felger reported on CSN New England that those close to Revis believe he will re-sign with the Patriots as long as they make him the highest-paid cornerback in the league. In other words, if they pay him more than $12 million per year for several years it won’t even matter if the Jets or Bills offer $15 million.

Revis would have to really love New York to return to the Jets, who happen to play in New Jersey. He reportedly had the Jets at the top of his list after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released him last year, but most believe that had more to do with Revis’ relationship with Ryan. Givenwhat Revis said about Rex this season, we’d view the Bills as a better bet if the All-Pro leaves New England.

If this happened pre salary cap era then I'd agree 100% . In the cap era , everyone knows you have to lose some of your higher paid assets. Look at the Cowboys this offseason they will lose either Dez or Murray unless either takes a substantial discount to remain with the team. Its part of the business, the smart teams like the Pats know when to walk away when the price tag is too high.

We had the extra $3mm to give Revis...It became an ego battle and that's on the owner and GM.  You don't give up a once in a generation talent because he's a pain in the ass...

John Idzik pinched pennies and we won 4 games Woody won't allow that to happen again. Revis will be a Jet if he wants to be the offer will be on the table.

I don't care what happened last year , to give Revis a huge contract now would be a colossal mistake given we have major holes in about 3 different parts of the team.

There's an article out today from Costello where Woody makes a bunch of almost defiant statements about spending money, but doing it wisely, but spending it so we don't lose ballgames, but being smart, but how he won't overpay, but he'll overpay if he has to, and that we need corners and a strong safety.

I think the bottom line is that Woody, like all rich dudes, bristles at the assertion that he's cheap and will definitely push to show off the wallet this offseason. It's gonna be on Maccagnan to make sure the team doesn't chase after the Larry Fitzgeralds and Suhs of the world just to placate the owner.

Of all the owners to emulate Woody picks Dan Snyder?

Stop with the Revis thing, let's move on, it's a rebuild not a reunion. Revis was great here as a player, but sucked with his constant whining about $. Let's not pay Q.B money to a soon be 30 year old corner, who skills have slipped. Build the Oline backers. We can get better value in F.A. He isn't coming here. It's back with the Pats or the Bill$.

The Patriots and the Bills cannot afford to sign Revis

Your thread discussing your pursuit of Revis goes amazing with your "I can't believe the Patriots filed tampering charges, what bullcrap" thread.

Putting aside the fact that Revis is under contract, why would any of you think you had any hope at getting Revis when the only person he had any loyalty to was fired from your organization on Black Monday? Because he misses Woody? lol
