bostonmajet 1,911
Wow - I didn't see that coming; thought that most would stay; can't really argue with any of that; with all of the problems ST had - I know that we didn't have depth, but he didn't adapt or anything?
TheMagicRat 344
We might wanna look at Dave Flipp the special teams coach from the Eagles. With Kelly out, the new coach could bring in a different staff.

JetsFanatic 6,415
If you recall last year when Bowles was putting together his staff, April was not his first choice. He wanted Keith Armstrong but the Falcons would not give permission.
bostonmajet 1,911
I like this; I know it isn't all April's fault - Quigley sucks; Folk gets hurt, but nothing changed over the year. He didn't try anything else. Westy said that Quigley had a better side to directionally kick too and he was constantly kicking in the other direction. Also, if you want the players to be accountable, the coaching staff has to show the same accountability.

Yeah, knew they would address ST issues but this? So fast? Nope. makes sense so. If someone shakes free you want to be ready to hire I guess, or let people know the positions are available
JetsFanatic 6,415
Yessssssssssssss finally FYI Mike Westhoff is available I would love to have him back, but he has repeatedly said on TV that he is no longer interested in coaching Special Teams.

Jet in PA 432
We might wanna look at Dave Flipp the special teams coach from the Eagles. With Kelly out, the new coach could bring in a different staff. That is a great idea. Their special teams unit has been consistently good. Without them they don't beat the Pats and you can argue they don't beat us ether.

Jet Nut 16,996
This FO acts fast, know what they want and doesn't drag their feet. If you can't keep up, put out or buy in, you're gone.
JetsHex 22
It's nice to have a front office that actually realize where the team is weak in and actually do something about it. Special Teams has been horrible this year. I feel like old regimes would hang on to these coaches because they were friends or what not.

bostonmajet 1,911
Awesome news, regime isn't messing around. I agree - it isn't like we are throwing coaches under the bus to save the HC; this is 'hey you guys let us down and we are moving on'
Jet Nut 16,996
Maybe we can have a sign fly over SNY saying "Fire Westy"... He's not coming back. Said it on the post game show last week. Is happy retired

Lack of production will not be rewarded!!!

jetsjets 539
Good move but next season we need to sacrifice a couple of spots for a KR and a PR. Jets like Versatile players, but we need guys that are good in this area. And please........ Tell me we can get a better Punter
Jet in PA 432
Sproles helps too... Yeah that's a good point. They also excelled at blocking punts/kicks and recovering muffs and whatnot. That might speak more to the talents of their ST players though.
Popular Post Charlie Brown 9,729
In the grand scheme we missed the playoffs because of special teams...the fact that this regime reacted to that IMO is a great sign going forward . At least three games were lost by ST play and none were really won by the ST play. Just awful.....
Matt39 43,123
Going into the season you would have thought the NFL had eliminated kickoffs and punts with the personnel we had. Kerley and Stacy? Wasnt NFL calibre.
section314 9,535
Just shows again what having mostly horrible drafts from 2010-2014 can do to a team. Coach had to go, but our talent on specials really slipped.

Integrity28 75,216
21 yard punt and spotting the Bills 7 had to be the final nail... Otherwise, why not can him sooner?

jetscrazey 3,202
best Jets news I've heard all week. special teams was the achillies heel of this team. Not one big punt or kick return all year, but they sure gave up some! Edited January 7, 2016 by jetscrazey
