You are correct, there was a slim possibility they do not score. However, the probability of losing by missing the field goal was less than the probability of scoring and letting the opposing offense back on the field, who they could not stop. The probability of the Browns losing was greater if they do not let them score, so they pulled him in to give them the opportunity to win. It was good smart gamesmanship, because the Chargers would have run the clock down and kicked a gimme field goal. You do remember why they moved the extra point back 12 yards, right?
