Aaron Rodgers traded to the New York Jets

Unc and Skip saying the draft picks compensation the Jets gave the Packers in their trade for Aaron Rodgers makes this deal Super Bowl or Bust for the Jets. If we don't get to the Super Bowl in the next two seasons, it's a BUST of a trade.

Skip Bayless is establishment media used to maintain narratives that protect certain interests.

He also says something shocking occasionally because he's not there to offer a substantive sports conversation

You seem pretty upset about people spelling Rodgers wrong for a guy that won't go for overpaid.

We can't do what the Rams did?  They won a super bowl  It is exactly what we are trying to do and your whole point 4 is basically asking that we do what the Rams did.  Our TEs are fine.  I agree that we should always be looking to upgrade, but with a real offense I think the guys will have will look much better.

And now they’re in hell for years.

It's very easy to evaluate trades once you see the results 10 months later. But here in the real world, you make the best decision you can with the information you have at the time. The opportunity cost of walking away from this deal was much greater than the cost of "overpaying" (if we accept that premise). GB wasn't letting him go for free, so what's the value delta we are speculating JD left on the table?

As league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Jets have already converted a portion of Rodgers’ salary into a signing bonus, which frees up a ton of cap space for the team as they continue to try to make a splash in free agency.

“For his 2023 salary, the #Jets picking up Aaron Rodgers’ already guaranteed option bonus of $58.3M means that it converts to a signing bonus for cap reasons — creating $43.7M of cap space and making his 2023 hit $15.7M,” Rapoport said in a tweet on Tuesday morning.

The Packers agreed Monday to deal quarterback Aaron Rodgers and their 2023 first round pick (No. 15) and a 2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170) to the Jets for New York’s 2023 first-round pick (No. 13), a 2023 second round pick (No. 42), a 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 207) and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of the plays this season, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Trade picks aside, here is how his contract breaks down:

The Jets will inherit the remainder of his contract, which includes $59.465 million guaranteed in salary and bonus this season. Most of it is made up of a $58.3 million bonus that is due no later than Week 1 of this season.

The Packers now must absorb $40.3 million in dead money on their salary cap. Because his bonus money is prorated, Rodgers won’t cripple the Jets’ cap. He will count $15.8 million in 2023 and $32.5 million in 2024, cap-friendly for a player of his stature.

Question, just for absolute clarity: Does the 65% of snaps include playoffs, if made, or is it just for the regular season, as would be presumed? Have you, Boozer, or anyone else, heard or read that detail?

Thank you Woody Johnson for that. Looking forward to seeing how all this money breaks down.

To get a guy like Aaron Rodgers even if it’s for a couple years and to still have a first and second rounder in this draft says we didn’t get fleeced. We basically traded Elijah Moore for Aaron Rodgers a second round pick next year that could become a one. It’s basically what everyone thought the deal was in the first place but an easier attainable conditional pick. Good trade for both teams but nobody got fleeced.

I have as much info as Adam Sheftner.... ZERO! Only JD & Gutenkunst know, and until NFL approves the trade, we can only guess.

Jets are playing this as super bowl or bust, as they should. Aim for the stars. But realistically, it's playoffs or bust for me. Jets have to make the post season with this core and Rodgers otherwise we are facing a reset, possibly including staff. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Getting there is a successful season IMHO.

Well said.  I'm in alignment with this thinking.

I also contend that it’s not a 2 yr window to win it, period - it’s a 2-3 yr window with rodgers.  It’s quite possible the rest of the team, in 3 yrs, will still be formidable and they’ll have a different qb to replace Aaron.  Jd just needs to draft like it’s 2022.

Guys like Boomer and Hughes are saying that Rodgers is essentially coming here for peanuts on a reworked contract.

If Rodgers told the Jets “Give me $25 mill a year and go get me some more pieces”, then some amazing sh*t is going to go down pretty soon.

Rodgers gonna make less than Daniel Jones and it's going to make me laugh every week.

If we didn't have Rodgers and we had that "massive amount of capital" we would not be expected to win?  We could wait on those picks to turn out?  The whole premise is so dumb that I am not surprised it came from "Skip."

For years, "draft capital" and "cap rollover dollars" have been sold to us as the promise of a better future.

As of right now rodgers only costs the jets 15 mill on the cap. But jets are also over the cap by about 7 million. Even if they magically bring his cap hit down to 1 million, jets have just enough money to sign their draft picks. Atleast if I’m reading this correctly
