We know ads stink. They are necessary though, since we aren't selling anything; it is our only way of paying hosting, software costs, and miscellaneous buffet-related expenses.    We have received much feedback over the years about too many ads in the forums. The Guest group sees the most, so you can register and see fewer ads if you are a guest. For registered members, we hear from the ad network that we aren't showing enough ads.

User experience and finding the balance have always been very important.

So we are going to try and strike a better balance by letting anyone who is interested subscribe for an ad-free experience. That link has more information, and there is absolutely no pressure. If you are happy with the way things are, you are good to go. If you want a faster site and no ads, check that link out for more details. You will also see a Subscribe option now in the main menu.

We are moving the forums to a more robust cloud-hosting environment. This means that we have better support, and if the forums crash, other people monitor it. We have to work on that uptime now that Aaron Rodgers is in town!

I have mentioned Live Events, and this upgrade will allow us to stream our own events in the forums. One-on-one debates and group video discussions with everyone else having the ability to chime in and it is a normal thread. The conversation lives on after the video portion ends.

The cool thing about this subscription option is that nobody gets any of the information. It won't feed an email list, won't be sold to any third parties and just removes ads for anyone interested.

Registered Users see ads.

Anyone that doesn't want to see ads can subscribe to remove them.

This move to the Invision cloud is going to cost an additional $229 a month. In exchange we get Live Events, iPhone notifications and a steady stream of new features as they release them.

No pressure for people to change anything though.

LOL. I already own JetsNation.com. 

The NDA they wanted me to sign would have prohibited that. And I knew how bad Scout was going to be. I couldn't have sooth'ed everyone like that. They said they were hiring 45 marketing people and they had two people working on the forum software, neither of them full time. Not a good mix, can't believe they didn't see their own demise coming.

True story many years ago a Patriots fan owned JetsNation.com. I contacted him and he said the Jets and SNY were both talking about buying it. So he wanted to see how that played out. I reached out to him a few months later and he wanted $10,000 for it.

Clearly his other negotiations weren't going well.

I gave it another two months are so and he was shocked that they didn't buy it. So I was able to buy the domain for $1,000.

JI was pretty awesome before sooth sold it. Went downhill instantly. So props to you for not selling out too. But 100K+ is a lot of money to turn down. You’re a better man than me. I would have taken the money and ran lol.

Yes. We had way more page views because of our blog, more uniques and social media wasn't even close. That was important to scout because they want to sell jerseys.

The forum post counts were closer but we were ahead of them. And I have the xls sheet to prove it. I used to check post counts for all the sites manually and record them.

I am creepy in many ways, this one being at the top of the list.

Not sure I've ever mentioned this in the forums before but the JI/Scout thing was crazy to me.  I'd been active on JI until it went down the sh*tter.  Then oddly enough, when I logged off one day and thought i'd take a few weeks away, I got the "hey, come check out JetNation" email and never looked back.

Then when I started writing for the site, one of the first calls I ever made to @Maxman he told me this crazy story about how scout had just made him an offer that he turned down and he'd hoped JI would take.

I was convinced he knew it was in the works because I kid you not, the following morning I had an email in my inbox announcing the merger of JI and scout.  I was convinced Max knew.  What were the odds of him saying all of this to me as the emails were being sent out to announce the merger?  Crazy coincidence and glad things went the way they did.

Maybe it’s just me or I’m so used to ads but they don’t bother me.  And I understand that there are costs involved with keeping this place afloat so I totally get the need for their presence here.

Was a registered user over at NYjetsfan.com in the early 2000’s. I had been mostly a lurker here until they went away. Im in a couple of Facebook groups and they aren’t nearly as good. Grew up using message boards. Respect for keeping the site up and providing, in my opinion, the best site jets site on the internet. Whatever you need to do to keep the site going is good with me.
