Pro sports actually seemed surprised that when they threw the doors open on gambling and getting huge money for promoting it that problems arise.

There will be an NBA like ref incident sooner than later I bet....I mean I think....

Every contract they sign warns them that they’ll be suspended if they gamble.  But TV commercials to the rest of the country makes them risk it all?

Right...all these guys were betting because of the NFL and team sponsorships.

If it wasn't for those sponsorships, none of these guys would have ever downloaded the DraftKings app and placed a bet on an NFL game while sitting in the trainers room with ice on their knees.

the refs is where the scrutiny needs to be yet we do not hear a word.

The players are a bit of a scapegoat here in my opinion.

Sure you could have a situation where a player could impact a game but to me it is a very small chance and not the widespread urgency they are making it out to be.

The refs, they can impact every play - yet we do not hear one word regarding if they are being policed. While the number of players is significantly higher than referees, you can't tell me that none of the refs are betting on football.

On one hand we think gambling is BAD!

On the other hand, if you give us tons of cash we think gambling is very very good!

You don't see a problem?

We need to while we are at it, let cigarette companies advertise their faces off if they give us huge cash, but!  Don't smoke!  bad for you!

The more you legitimize and promote gambling the bigger the issue is.

Part of the issue though is where do you cut off what can or cant be advertised?

Do they stop commercials or advertisements for beer/alchohol? What about food since many believe there is an obesity problem.

I don't mention the above in any way as pro or con gambling. It is just one of those topics that comes down to personal responsibility but has billions of dollars tied to it so ethics are out the window.

It’s pretty simple.   If I were to bet on a game I can’t do anything to influence a game to help my bet?  You seriously don’t understand why players can’t bet and we can?  Especially since they’re told from day one gambling gets you suspended and on NFL games hard.

Am I alone in knowing who all the major sites were before it was allowed in professional sports?

The NFL also is advertising alcohol.

Are dunk players during the games cool too?

Adverts =/- allowable activity for players.

I loathe the modern endless-gambling-adverts, but even I can see these players are stupid as stupid can be.

Why do people think the NFL accepting advertising revenue from gambling outlets should make it their fault players break the gambling rule? It's stupid.

The rule is they can't gamble. The NFL accepting revenue from gambling entities doesn't change the rule. This is not a morality issue, it's a matter of following the rules. Don't be an idiot and let your teammates down.

And anti-gambling rules were always on the books previously; they only started enforcing them more with the new partnership.  The NFL f**ks up at every turn but enforcing strict gambling rules isn't close to a major complaint to have with the league.

Any given player or coach or staff member can give a friend or family member a wad of cash to place a bet for them in their name.  The league brass does not care about anything other than sanitizing what is seen from the consumer's chair.

The NFL is fixed just like wrestling.   You know the teams get a script during training camp what’s going to happen. Let me save you the time . The Jets will lose the first 6 games .    Anyone bets on sports isn’t too bright .    Why do the NFL list itself as entertainment , and not a sport. ( so can create the best story lines ) Why so they can cheat  the Raiders every year .     ( well that’s my position and only reason why the best team doesn’t win every year.   ( joke before anyone goes nuts).

not a total joke.  plenty of favors given to certain teams.  the pittsburg squeelers come to mind.  how many of their playoff wins came as a result of flagrant bad calls or non-calls ??? I lost count back in the 80's.

Yeah, thats not true or a defense to anything

Alex Karras and Paul Hornug were suspended for a year in the 60’s. Art Schlichter in the 1980’s.  Josh Shaw in 2019.

I have been gambling on sports since I’m a teenager.

Legal or not I would still be gambling on sports.

I personally think it should be legal.

But it should be treated like Tobacco, no advertising allowed on TV and Radio, and the internet.

If you want to gamble you will always be able to find somewhere to do so.

There is zero reason other then greed to shove it down everyone’s throats the way they are with the advertising.

So many lives will unnecessarily be ruined.

It never changes.

Government: "Gambling is bad for society, so if we catch you gambling, even at home, we will throw you in jail"

Also Government: "Hey society! Come try our gambling games! A dollar and a Dream!"

Hey....Does DraftKings have an over/under on the number of NFL players who get suspended for at least a full season for gambling on DraftKings? 🤣

As you said “If you want to gamble you will always be able to find somewhere to do so.”   I’ve an avid sports fan for almost 60 years.  Unlike most of my friends, I never gambled.  It just does nothing for me, I don’t get the rush from getting lucky that you need to gamble your life away.  I worked in OTB all during college, never bet on horses, never felt the urge.

All the advertising in the world won’t make me place a bet anymore than degenerate gamblers who ruined their lives because they can’t walk away can point to advertising.  How did all those who ruined their lives in the past come with excuses in the past, gambling has been on TV and radio, what all of 2 years?
Thankfully there’s a lot of room between those who enjoy letting a couple of dollars ride on a game(s) and losing everything

There’s a huge difference between gambling on line or a casino and placing bets with the mob.  Kind of different.

The over under?  Take the under.  A few dumb asses is all it will take for others to understand it’s no joke.
