This is supposed to be a team that relies on the defense to win games no a bunch of free agent old offensive players we got on cheap trades. This defense is allowing over a 100 QB rating to every QB they have face so far. The secondary has to be the worst in the league and you want to know the funniest part? Todd Bowles was a secondary coach! If he cant have at least a well coached secondary then wtf is his purpose? To make terrible time management calls and stare off into space all game? Bowles got so lucky with that cupcake schedule last year bought himself another couple of years but no way he lasts not knowing how to coach up a secondary. You can find defensive players to remedy the warts. Finding a QB is another story. Our D wouldn't have been on the field so much and we wouldn't have had to play from behind again. We've seen Fitz not be successful when trailing in the second half. Before today Forte had been fairly successful and was a big part in keeping drives going. We were also starting two rookie receivers one a UFA and the other a 7th rounder. And no receiving tight end. As bad as the d looks at times, this is a playoff team with a decent QB. I'vr said it today already, I'd love to see what this defense could do with a lead. Guess we'll never know. Every team in the league has warts. When u have multiple warts and the QB is the biggest one, you need to address it, not defend him and deflect because you like his personality and facial hair. Numbers aside the Jets were in this game until the beginning of the 4q despite all the three and outs and putting up simply 10 pts. The Jets had the momentum going into halftime and the D came out and stopped the Seahawks to begin the second half. Then the offense came on the field and had negative yardage and punted. But at the end of the day, in an offense driven league, our QB has led us to 13 points in 2 weeks. I'm not counting the fumble return TD today for obvious reasons. The other teams have their QB audible when they see those two in tough situations. Our QB has been throwing picks particularly in the red zone. Also he has now had 4/5 games go south on him. Fitz is still trending downward with the Steelers due up next. The D has stopped the run cold for the most part. Those picks have caused short field situations. Not gonna go into details but after 8 turnovers, D still only allowed 10 points to KC. And it allowed 27 to Seattle after 3 turnovers. Not ideal but it could've been far worse. The D backfield in particular is atrocious. No one denies that. The O scored 10 points until Fitz fumbled it and CP ran it 40 yards for a TD. rex-n-effect Posted October 3, 2016 Share Posted October 3, 2016 The problem on defense is that every coach but stupid rex figured out how to attack our defense before the season began and we have yet to figure out a way to combat it. When you have an aggressive defensive front you just need to alternate between stretching the defense vertically and then hitting them with short passes. The short passes get the ball out before the rush hits and the long routes ensure the secondary isn't around to catch up to the short routes. This situation is aggravated by poor play in the secondary and uneven play at LB but coaching has to take a huge amount of the responsibility for not doing a better job planning around and adjusting to this strategy. When was the last time the jets made a momentum changing big play ? When was the last time we took away what another team was trying to do ? This is all on the scheme on both sides of the ball. Easy to blame everything on the QB, its what frustrated Jets fans always do but we were supposed to be an Elite defense that created Havoc supported by a top notch running game and a game managing QB and POSSESSION WR's. Instead we have a half assed defense that does nothing to contribute to the outcome of a game and we are trying to force a good QB to be something he's not add that in with a staggering amount of critical drops our WR's have produced and you have a QB who is trying to be something he's not. If you want to blame that on the players go ahead but you will see next year Todd Bowles is not Head Coaching material. (Great heads-up play by Peake, i was impressed with him last night). In one game that would be OK, but nothing great. Two games? Unacceptable. So no, "always being on the field" is not, in fact, the issue. The issue is our Pass Defense is by almost every objective measure one of the worst in the NFL. Spend every first round pick on defense. And I liked the Lee pick, still do but look at Hunter Henry in San Diego that guy is a future all pro tight end wtf?!?!? Anyone watching a QB throw 9 INTs in two games knows that's the most glaring issue. For all the talk of KC scoring on their first drive, they scored that TD and the FG off a short field. 6 more on a pick six and another 6 on a fumble return. On a day when the QB threw 6 INTs.
