joewilly12
Kelechi Osemele says he’s having shoulder surgery Friday Posted by Josh Alper on October 23, 2019, 3:06 PM EDT Getty Images Jets guard Kelechi Osemele‘s battle with the team over his shoulder injury hasn’t come to an end, but Osemele says he’s moving forward with his preferred treatment option later this week. Osemele said last week that he needs shoulder surgery while the Jets contended that doctors said he could continue playing through the injury. As a result, the Jets would not authorize the surgery and then fined Osemele for conduct detrimental to the team when he did not practice last Saturday. On Wednesday, Osemele said, per multiple reporters, that he went for a third opinion and that he will have surgery on Thursday despite the fact that the Jets have still not authorized the operation. Osemele also said that the Jets have continued to fine him and that he will pursue a grievance against the team because of those fines. Osemele would miss the rest of the season if he has the surgery. He remains under contract for 2020, but it seems highly unlikely that the two sides will continue their working relationship. chrisfaceoff
Definitely a tricky situation and hard to say who is 100% at fault, but even still neither look good at the way they are handling it. With that being said, hard to fault someone for getting a surgery if they are in pain for something. Hope the surgery goes well.
Joe W. Namath
I wonder how the players are taking this. Could the total lack of enthusiasm on defense the other night be because the team is pissed the jets are treating one of the guys like this?

joewilly12
Jets Admit They Inadvertently Sent Blank Kelechi Osemele MRIs to Doctors ADAM WELLSOCTOBER 23, 2019 Jeff Chiu/Associated Press The New York Jets and offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele remain at odds over his shoulder injury, with the latest issue involving blank MRIs. Per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Osemele said Wednesday that Jets general manager Joe Douglas told him the team made an "honest mistake" when it inadvertently sent blank MRIs to doctors. Osemele also told reporters he got a third doctor to confirm he needs surgery and wants to undergo the procedure Friday, but the Jets have yet to approve it. He added he hasn't talked to head coach Adam Gase in weeks. "The team's position is that I can play through this injury because I started the season playing with the injury," Osemele told reporters. After starting New York's first three games, Osemele has sat out the past three weeks because of an injured shoulder. Osemele's agents, Andrew Kessler and David Mulugheta, said two doctors told Osemele he needs surgery on a torn labrum based on their look at his MRIs, his symptoms and pain, and the Jets insurance provider has approved the procedure, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Kessler and Mulugheta added Osemele will have "all of his rights under the CBA enforced through the legal process" if the Jets don't approve Friday's surgery. Per SNY.tv's Ralph Vacchiano, the Jets fined Osemele last Saturday for refusing to practice, and he is expected to be fined again for not playing in Monday's game against the New England Patriots. Osemele told reporters Wednesday he filed a grievance against the Jets and that his plan is to have surgery this week, with or without the team's permission, and he also expects them to cut him after this season. The Jets sent a 2019 fifth-round draft pick to the Oakland Raiders for Osemele and a sixth-round pick in March. The two-time Pro Bowler was expected to be an integral part of New York's offensive line this season.

Bleedin Green
Obviously tough to say how severe this particular injury is, but the concept of players being expected to play through injuries when they can is hardly a ridiculous concept. Without that, there'd be 0 players left to play on Sunday. If their team docs have cleared him to play, you can't really expect them to approve an elective surgery that would result in him not honoring his contract.

The Jets passed KO when the trade happened let's start there there's no wink wink agreement between KO and the team the team says Player X is healthy we accept this trade. KO says he's hurt in preseason. The CBA states if even 1 doctor says he needs the surgery he's correct in going to get it there is no "both sides are wrong" here and it doesn't matter if the Jets find 2 doctors who say it's "elective" the jets are wrong, period they took the risk when they passed KO's physical in May or whenever mark my words KO will get his whole salary and won't pay a dime in fines when it's all done what the Jets are doing is against the CBA and the players union will defend KO 9 1

There's also the little caveat that none of the reports from the docs Osemele is using to his defense has yet to say he needs the surgery now, which is the entire Jets' point of contention (as they claim doctors have said the exact opposite). Potentially winning a battle and/or support by the NFLPA is hardly the mark for great success. Of course, it could also turn out it's a serious injury (none of us have the slightest clue of that), and the Jets are mindless buffoons in all of this, because ya know... Jets. If they let CTE poster boy for undiagnosed episodic rage, Richie Incognito in... Osemele will get a job.
Saul Goodman
He played so poorly that he knows he’ll be cut following the season (by his own admission above). Physically, he is in the same condition that he was when the season started. He’s pulling a maneuver to get surgery, sit out the rest of the season AND get paid. I can totally see where the Jets are coming from here. Mike Maccagnan strikes again. 2

Jetpain
The Jets have really got a good return on some of their biggest investments this year. Lol. Osemele, Trumaine, Kalil, Leonard Williams , Winters, and Quincy, I could throw in Mosely, but he has a future here and his a top player when healthy what a painful list
Popular Post Beerfish
Mike mccganan is by far the worst Gm this team has had in the last 20 years. Far far far worse than John Idzik who simply could not draft.

LIJetsFan
This is actually good news for the team. Opens up a roster spot. Player going against team wished ought to save said team on some cap. varjet
The Jets are the type of inept organization that a player could feel they could pull a stunt like this and get away with it. This is in part because of they passed his physical. Mac figured he would play through it if he wanted to get paid in 2020. Wrong. The bigger issue is the fact that the Jets had him trying to zone block. This is probably why he is bailing. Mac traded for KO and then signed Bell, which actually was contradictory. The common denominator behind moves like this over the last 10+ years? The Johnsons. My guess is that someone pushed for Bell, and then Gase is being trying to block for him using guys who are not suited to it. But they have no other running back. This is just sickening. 1
T0mShane
Two things can be true in this matter: 1. Osemele got paid and decided he doesn’t like football anymore, and that’s why the Raiders dumped his gold-bricking ass in the first place. 2. The Jets look like sh*t for pressing him on this and they should have just taken the loss and let Osemele have his surgery, IR him, and then cut him at the first available opportunity.
Hael
I’ve had a torn labrum. It’s completely debilitating from a strength perspective, hurts like hell, and likely limits him tremendously in countless ways on the field. He is up for a contract and wants to be fresh so that people will pay him. That’s perfectly understandable, this is his career and he doesn’t have many years left. When he was on the Raiders he would be perfectly in his rights to have the surgery, and indeed no one would think that was odd. We took his contract, so the burden is now on us. it doesn’t matter if he chose to play through pain early, nor does it matter if not all drs agree. All it takes is one, and he is in his CBA rights to have surgery. As far as I’m concerned, the previous GM is an idiot for signing someone with such an injury and not insisting on a new contract. I hope the league fines us for this behavior, as it’s completely unethical.

Ohio State NY Jets fan
For all we know Mac insisted the team quacks pass his physical since he needed to appear that the OL was "fixed" - lol The Jets sent a 2019 fifth-round draft pick to the Oakland Raiders for Osemele and a sixth-round pick in March... thought it was only a 5th + $11m in cap space - Thanks Mac - can they fire him again BTW - I think KO played them (douche move) but not much they can do now, the Jets need to bury this story or it might be a while before they get a decent FA - you think Mosley is glad he took the money? could be the new example for the hometown discount
