Aaron Rodgers to the Jets rumor: Merged

I think you hit a big point here Green Bay is trying to get a gold parashoot out of this Rodger conttract. They owe alot of money and Joe knows thye want out of it. He has all the leverage and knows that Green bay is going to come around to his terms, because who the hell else is going to give them an out.

It makes alot of sense for them to let NY talk to him hoping that it will help move Joe to more favorable terms, but Joe has his line and either they are going to accept it now or eat all that money one june 1st.

What leverage the Jets had though they pissed it away with their loud and proud courtship this week

if they dont land Rodgers now after missing on Carr they will look like a clown organization.

Green Bay knows this, the leverage is gone. That's why this trip to California was so stupid!

This is freakin' ridiculous.  Rodgers is a tool and this is shaping up as a complete joke.  I would have told Rodgers and GB that this gets done by March 5 or not at all.  Neither he nor GB has anyplace else to go.  The Jets have an amazing propensity to give up all their leverage.  I'd express interest in both Jackson and Stafford publicly today.  I can't stand Rodgers and he is proving to be just like the guy he replaced at the same point in his career.

JD has been an EXCELLENT trader.  I am not worried that he's going to overpay.

As long as we have an answer before Monday's FA opening there's nothing to worry about. Rodgers doesn't owe the Jets anything and is making a major decision. I get it, I want to know asap too.

Major decision sure?  but he's known about their interest for over a month.  He should know by tomorrow and the trade should be finalized by then.

idk if I agree with this, nothign has changed, Green bay desperately wants out of rodger as thier QB. they want to move on from the money and player. Rodgers doesnt like all the dumb covid crap and lack of help the team has been been providing still. And the jets have the bag and picks to get a deal done. If anything I think they are stronger. WHo the hell else they going to deal to.

Thank god I've been swamped with work today lol. Literally was listening to D&R about to get out of the car when Dianna's report hit the airwaves... knew then it was adding coals to a hot fire for Jets fans.

I think this will all come to a head one way or another by EOD tomorrow. Rodgers knows that it benefits him to make a decision before free agency begins. Obviously the Jets are still conducting business despite this looming, but they will absolutely have a different free agency plan if Rodgers doesn't make a decision (or decides no)

what do you think the alternative is?

is there another team in the mix?  i would have thought it would have been leaked by now.

He is due 100 mill over the next two years

He does not have a no trade deal.

His present team wants him gone.

No other team wants anything to do with him.

The Jets have to beg or 'gasp!' he might retire.

This time next year?  The Jets will be begging him not to retire.

not sure the jets are begging I think they are just offering to pay the man for his services and providing an atmosphere to let him win another ring. Maybe he doesnt want to play year two who knows, he is just as likely to play another season or retire. Not really pointing either direction.

The Jets aren’t begging. They met him, all indications are it went well. As long as it is resolved by Monday, the start of legal tampering period, it doesn’t matter. The Jets can’t do anything else regarding the QB position till then anyway.

Well, it is putting a hold on their free agent prep or even forcing them to create two different strategies.

Most teams put a lot of work into that.  They'll have completely different priorities with or without Rodgers and they need to be ready.

It shouldn’t impact their FA prep at all. I’m sure they told Rodgers and the Packers they need this resolved by the start of free agency. They should have plan for either scenario, whether they have Rodgers or not.

The season ended a month ago.  How long does it take? Seriously ?  Either you want to play or you don't.  He is such a prima donna attention whore.  Don't get me wrong, if he comes here I'm all in. I may  not like it or him or what is given up to acquire him, but I'm not going to root for him to fail.  But the time it is taking him to decide is ridiculously absurd.

it is not rodgers.  he was in with the jets along with the hackett hire.  the gb people want to fleece jd.

my guess is they asked for a number one draft pick and jd is offering #2 this year and conditional next year and gb is dug in on wanting more.

How long before you start to worry that he he's trying to convince himself he wants to play - even though his heart isn't into it.

That's the sense I get of what's taking so long.  He doesn't really want to play, but it's a lot of money.  Hoping the Jet can convince him.

Is there any worry there from anyone?

I know the time line.  The jets said take as long as you like, take all the time you need.  Everyone is kissing Rodgers ass just the way he likes it, just the way he has always had his ass kissed.

I'd gladly kiss his ass for a Super Bowl trophy.  The great thing is I prefer it's JD who does the kissing, who cares as long as he comes ready to give it his all.

Jets Become Enormous Favorites In New Rodgers Next-Team Odds

Here is a look at the latest Aaron Rodgers next-team odds along with how the rumors have impacted the NFC North and Super Bowl races.
BILL HUBER1 HOUR AGO
In this story:
GREEN BAY PACKERS
GREEN BAY, Wis. – If Aaron Rodgers is traded by the Green Bay Packers, it seems like it’s the New York Jets or bust.

Sportsbooks agree.

The next-team bet for the four-time MVP quarterback has turned completely lopsided. In new odds posted by BetOnline.ag and SportsBetting.ag on Thursday afternoon, the Jets are -1000 to acquire Rodgers. The Las Vegas Raiders, who had been the favorite throughout February and the start of March, are +500.

What do those numbers mean? By implied probability, the Jets are viewed as a 90.9 percent certainty to land the big fish of the quarterbacking sea. The Raiders are at 16.7 percent.

i don't think it's Rodgers at this point. I think the Pack is negotiating.

This is a serious In JD We Trust moment. Early in the process, people were talking about boatloads of picks and $100M cap hits for Rodgers, but this narrative has always failed to recognize the position the Packers are in with his contract. I’m not sure what their hit is if he retires, but cutting him after June 1 would still cost them a $43.6M cap hit. Trading him still costs them, but only $8.7M. There’s a huge incentive for them to make a trade work. Even if it winds up costing them another $10M, they would still save over $25M.

Exactly.  All the chatter that that the Packers have all the leverage always seemed silly to me.  Jets can suffer with a different QB or go after Lamar.  Packers are down to one trade partner.

If the jets have a good year, make the playoffs at least then I would for sure think he'd be back.  If however things go poorly this year for any reason he'll be one and done.  It will be Favre version 2.

I think Rodgers knows exactly what hes going to do. I think he truly enjoys watching the media takes these educated guesses when in al reality, these people know nothing. Aaron Rodgers said it himself when he put Schefter and Rappaport on blast. We’ll know something is final when either he says it himself or he lets someone leak it out.
