Bryce Huff - needs more playing time

That play was completed and 15 yards tacked on top of that. Huff has to start getting sacks, he is still below average against the run. If he can get to average against the run and start getting sacks, then he needs to be resigned ASAP. Lets see what happens the rest of the way. He should feast against Evan Neal coming out of the bye week. Lets see what he brings this week against that Eagles o-line.

While they are at it toss him a contract extension. Trade McDonalds for some nuggets or something.

JD is quite stubborn giving up on 1st round draft picks if you didn’t notice. They should either extend now, or trade huff. Maybe straight up for Kirk cousins ? Throw them an extra bone too.

Back to McDonald, he looked great in preseason. Way too early to judge him. It does make you wonder, is Saleh making the draft selections? It’s nice to have the deepest DL rotation in NFL. But we had lot more pressing needs than picking another.

Sadly, I fear JD drafted McD as Huff's (eventual) direct replacement.

McD's physical and athletic profile mirrors Huff's, and GMs like Joe Douglas prioritize cap space more than proven productivity.

I definitely think that was the plan but plans can change and that one needs to change.

Huff is too good.

JD used a first round draft pick to draft another DE when he already Bryce Huff on the roster.

The coaching should have known what they had here and extended him 2 years ago.  Now he is likely walking unless he can be extended soon.

2 edge rushers is ideal

Huff has no motivation to accept a deal from the Jets at this point.  JD isn't going to give up on any of his big commitments, which at the position already includes JFM, JJ, and McD.  Huff surely knows he will have better opportunities waiting for him elsewhere in just a few short months, and even if he doesn't realize that, I'm certain his agent will be happy to tell him as much.

The season is long these guys fly around the country sometimes to Europe or Mexico over 17 games

More reps is not the answer

And side note the defense is balling out

It's the usual story around here let's nitpick the defense when the offense is marginal

Agree

we need to find the price elasticity limit of Huff

woops wait that’s economics

The point of diminishing returns

for now call it “Bryce Snap Elasticity”

What if we're at it right now

Once upon a time people actually believed Lamont Jordan could be an rb1 given Curtis reps

It's bullsh*t

The rotation maximizes each rep

There's no universe where Huff plays 70 snaps a game and has 34 sacks

That's casual fan thinking. Like Saleh and company hadn't thought of this brilliant idea before

Brandon Thorne , scout and offensive and defensive line guru just released his “true sack rate “ which rewards sacks where the defender beats his man quickly and gets the QB and dilutes the value of coverage sacks or when another guy flushes the QB right into a sack. There isn’t a single Jet on the list. Pressures are overrated and Huff has to convert more pressures into sacks.

I don’t think he’s getting a big deal from the Jets.

Huff for the pressure he gets given how the Jets' DL rotation limits his snaps is off the charts.

  • "Despite being 60th among edge rushers in pass-rush snaps (87), Huff is seventh in total pressures (26). Huff’s 29.9% pressure rate ranks first among all defensive players in the NFL with at least 30 pass-rush snaps, regardless of position. That’s out of 280 qualified players."
