*** The official 2024 free agency thread***

"I like the position were in," Douglas said at the NFL Scouting Combine. "There's a lot of talent coming back to this team – we have to add more to it. We know exactly what we have to do moving forward."

"I feel like there's some guys that could come in and be the right type of fit for us," Douglas said with free agency and the draft on the horizon in late April. "In terms of intelligence, toughness, reliability, there's some good candidates out there that can come in and help us."

I’ll help you out

Huff

2020    2

2021     2

2022    3.5

McDonald

2023   3.0

McDonald is one year younger than Huff. Let’s see how long it takes him to have year like Huff’s in ‘23.

Well, It’s done now, nothing we say will change anything. As far as MacDonald goes, I guess we’ll find out soon, right?

I really hated the mcdonald pick when JSN was there, it really made no sense with huff, JJ, and some others on the roster. But for this reason, the jets wanted to have a second year, high pick ready to take over. I'd be much happier with huff at 17m per and JSN on a rookie deal right now, but thats not what happened. Mcdonald is on the roster, Mcdonald is supposed to be a pass rush specialist that is really "bendy" and 480 something snaps just opened up. I think the jets were comfortable letting huff walk, not because they didn't want to pay him, but because they had a guy on a rookie contract that could pick up where huff left off. We'll see soon enough.

Yet they’re letting him walk for nothing in the offseason? If he was too talented to trade then, why let him walk in another must win season with the QB coming back? To sign a guard? This is exactly what the franchise tag is for. No ones providing a valid reason for letting him leave. Unless the plan is to trade Rodgers and start over.
It has something to do with Zach Wilson. I'm sure of it. And Saleh's love of golf

Both 6 3', Mcdonald was listed as 240 pounds his rookie year. Huff at 255 in year 4. I'd imagine mcdonald will be putting on some weight in year 2 and 3. Both a little undersized.

How much weight is McDonald going to out on?

He's only a year younger than Huff

It happens to bad teams who do not manage the cap well on a consistent basis year to year. Without horrible dead cap revamped deals for the likes of Carl Lawson, CJ Mosley still being on this team, and Allen Lazard....you could easily have Huff back.

But honestly....at the price tag that Philly gave him, Huff ain't worth that man. What we should have done was traded him before the trade deadline.

It wasn't about money. Huff wanted to start and he doesn't start here. So unless you think the Jets should've paid him so much he forgot about his desire to start (i.e. Quinnen Williams money), he was leaving.

What do you think was the top offer in the last 1-7 days of October, when Huff had 2.5-3.5 sacks, in a dedicated edge rushing role, and a contract that expired at the end of the season?

I didnt really care for Huff thought he was a gonner anyway and would not have paid him 20mil per to keep him as that would have turned into big fail

with that said - He is destined to become a perennial pro bowler now - book it

1 guy has been a pro athlete for 1 season, one has been a pro for 4. Just a hunch but I'd be willing to bet he'll put on a few more pounds of muscle after being employed by an NFL team for 4 years.

Well he has 2 more year before he has to flash those 10.5 sacks.

Hopefully he can get to developing, get on the field and get to that soon. He’s no spring chicken.

On one hand, I'm disappointed. On the other, whomever we signed would probably have a devastating season ending injury before the first game.

It's awesome being a Jets fan.

A thought

OT & WR market still quiet and now seeing a lot of 1 yr deals being announced. Draft is deep with OT & WRs. Are teams playing hard ball with those two positions?  Maybe these FAs have to sign 1-2 yr deals?

Daniel Jeremiah ⁦‪@MoveTheSticks‬⁩

Not much happening in WR market. Draft is stacked at that position.

He just got big bank, he was well thought of before even last year.   He had 5 sacks by game 8 last year.  A 2nd?  Maybe maybe not but he would have gotten a reasonable return as in a 3 and something else at least.

I have said this at least 137 times this offseason but they tendered him for a 2nd.  If he were regarded well enough to warrant a 2nd or anything close why didn't anybody just sign him for that 2nd?
