Pre-Draft Bitch/Troll Thread

Sarge4Tide

Recommended Posts

Well, it's that time of year again.  With the NFL Draft less than 1 week away, it's time to get ready to bitch about the Jets picks and troll any and all draft threads.

Because things will be moving so fast here on Draft night and because the bitching and trolling will be flying fast and furious, many wonderfully negative posts will, unfortunately, be lost or underappreciated.  This thread is your opportunity to go ahead and bitch about the Jets picks and get your trolls in before the draft.

Yayyyyyyyy!!!!

We're drafting a defensive back in the first round, which is wonderful considering our management group just burned 100 mil on DBs they're gonna end up dumping within three years. Not sure what Todd Bowles does for a living, but the fact that he made his bones as a secondary coach and literally every DB that's come into Florham has turned right to sh*t makes me sad for whatever poor bastard they take this year.

Defense again in the first round

JAG in the second

we start asking other GMs for advice for 3-7

Just like always

IF we were able to get a JAG with our second round pick this year, it would be the best second round pick we've made since 2007.

-Taking a running back at #6 overall is colossally stupid, and anyone who supports doing so should not be permitted to drive, operate heavy machinery, or feed themselves without supervision.

-Mitch Trubisky is a terrible prospect, and the sole upside of the Jets drafting him is that his idiot supporters would be forced to spend the next four years reckoning with their own foolishness.

-The most likely first-round outcome is that we take a crummy deal to trade down  and end up taking a major conference pass-rusher with solid tape and the athleticism of a tree sloth. The smart money is on Charles Harris, but Barnett is a strong sleeper. Our resident brain trust will spend the offseason posting Youtube cutups and saying things like "lol let me know when they run the 3-cone during a game homo." They spend the season explaining that Harris/Barnett is "still a rookie finding his way" and cranking themselves over a gif of a sack he had against Geno in the preseason. The dumbest among them (Pac is a strong contender here, though any of the BIGG MACC crew are legit possibilities) spend his second, third, and fourth seasons complimenting him on his skills as a run defender and declaiming the importance of situational pass-rushers in the modern NFL. Those with any sense simply stop talking about him at all. The Jets do not pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

We're going mediocre DB or druggie ILB in round 1.  Book it.

A JAG would be in the NFL.  Stephen Hill and Jace Amaro are unemployed.  Pryor and Hackenberg would be too if it wasn't for the New York Jets social welfare program.

How can I effectively comment on the draft without a comprehensive listing of the roster, highlighting specifically how it hasn't changed at all since the last 4 roster update threads?

I mean, I'm not Mel Kiper here.

We just need the team @ 5 to take a guard like the Skins did in 2015. Macc must have fallen out of his seat with Leonard Williams (The Big Cat) sitting there, lol. Absolutely zero pressure there, the only question was how fast his name was written on the card? I like Macc, I hope he can find a QB, makes his job MUCH EASIER.

I also want to add this to the Macc bashers, Macc also had zero to do with hiring Todd Bowles, who based on 2 seasons at the helm has a LOT TO LEARN about decision making as a head coach in the NFL. You can pick players, but if the coaching staff can't develop them & put them in the best position to succeed, than your screwed.

What in your opinion would be a crummy deal?

If not for the NY Jets many players wouldn't be in the NFL

The NY Jets do not understand the draft

Remember that quote from a very young Mel Kiper Jr. when the Jets picked Mike Haight in the first round?  Something like...

"This just proves that the New York Jets know nothing about the draft."

As stated numerous other times, Macc has done a nice job in the lower rounds and with the UDFAs.

I think his third round picks have been solid, for what they were.  Greene will have Mauldin playing better, as basically a DPR.  We need a DPR.

Its his top 4 picks (1st and 2nd round, x2) which really show that he needs to learn.  Leo was a good pick so long as he either let Mo go or successfully traded him.

Devin Smith has the potential to be a disaster.  We will know soon enough.

The Hack pick is very simple-if Hack can function as an NFL QB, it is a solid pick.  If he is a complete mess that cannot complete a pass against a real defense, it was an awful pick.  At least in my view, QBs are held to a different standard.

Darron Lee could have been the BPA there.  He needs to have a strong year, but in his first year he did not look as good as Deion Jones picked 20+ picks later.

This year he has the Trubisky/QB quandary again.  We must not forget that if MT drops to the Browns at 12, he will have Hue Jackson coaching him.  So he will automatically look as good as he is going to look.  People will not take that into account.  So if MT is a real QB picked at 12, and the Jets pick a S or TE, Macc will be villified.  I think the strategy for Macc is to basically say that if MT is at 6, the Jets are picking him.  Make Cleveland trade up to 4 or 5 to get him.  This way the pressure is off.  The Jets can use their picks to start to fill the roster.  This roster is TOO BAD to use one or more of their only 7 picks to move up for a QB who is not a sure thing.  I would rather see them reach in Round 2 for Davis Webb.

I think I finally figured out how to save the Jets again. Like to hear it? Here it goes:

1. Trade the sixth overall pick, but don't accept a first rounder back in this year's draft. Demand the first rounder come in 2018. Why? 1. Because there appears there will be more and better QBs available next year. 2. It cuts the legs out from Bowles, who is in line for a mercy killing anyway, and 3. If Bowles does indeed get fired, the two first rounders in 2018 become saleable features for your next head coach, much more so than drafting Conley or a Trubisky this year does. If this year goes as we all think it will, everything with a Jets logo on it will be anathema within the coaching community and you'll have to sell Next Coach on a clean slate with a lot of control. Maccagnan is a scout and not a GM, which was the report on him when he was fired--the job was going to be "too big" for him. When you look at his bungling in free agency, his clear lack of vision, and his inability to manage personnel--from Bowles on down--Maccagnan should welcome being kicked down the ladder where he can still be "the GM," but has his duties limited solely to evaluating college-level player personnel. Trading the six for a 2018 first (and change) is short-term pain for long-term gain, which is what we're set up for anyway.

2. Go YOLO with the remaining picks. Assuming you get a two and a four back (in addition to the 2018 first), use those picks to draft pure, freak athletes at the skill and EDGE positions. At the end of the year, this Jets team is going to have, at best, 10 to 12 players that you're going to want to take forward with you in a rebuild. Use this year's picks to make sure you've got some moldable talent to sell into the future. Guys like Sidney Jones, Jordan Willis, Tim Williams, Dede Westbrook, Samson Ekuban, even Mixon and D'Onta Foreman. Double up on positions. Take Willis at the top of Round Two and take Derek Rivers at the top of Round Three. Take a shot on Josh Dobbs, Nate Peterman, or Adoreé Jackson. There is no real plan for the roster. Embrace that fact and just add to the 53.

3. Dump Eric Decker. Decker has been a nice player here, but he's older, injured, but still has some value to teams looking for a reliable WR. Give him to the Falcons or Cardinals for a fourth rounder. He'll score 12 TDs on those teams, but screw it. There's no argument for keeping him, even if you think he can "help" Hackenberg or Petty. Give his job to a young dude and save that money.

4. If you do draft a Peterman or even a Dobbs, give Hackenberg away. There were teams allegedly willing to draft him, which is why Maccagnan reached on him in the second. Find those teams and purge your mistake. Take back a five and an undisclosed conditional pick in 2018 (which will be nil, but it gives you cover from having to hear about how you burned a second rounder). As of right now, Hackenberg represents an organizational Hail Mary that Macc threw that has an infinitesimal chance of ever paying off. Reel that throw back in and clear the decks.

5. Fire Kacy Rodgers out from under Bowles. Rodgers has been every bit as awful a coordinator as we've ever had here. He's wasted Sheldon, he hung Cromartie and Revis out to dry week after week after week even when it was clear neither of them could run anymore, and literally every player has regressed in his "scheme." The defense was uncompetitive in most games last year, and it wasn't just one area breaking down--it was every player. It wasn't just Mo dogging it, or Lee being young, or Revis being old. It was a failure on the part of the coaches both from a scheme and an accountability standpoint. Because Bowles and Rodgers were soft on veteran players, all the players quit. Because Bowles and Rodgers aren't particularly creative, they're wasting a talent like Richardson for no reason. They'll never figure out how to maximize Darron Lee. They'll just keep drafting players that look like players they had on the Cardinals and just kinda hope they play like the Cardinals defense did, completely unaware that it's only possible to play a Big Nickel defense when your offense is putting up 35 ppg and gets you slaughtered otherwise. And you know who'd be fun to bring in to run the defense? Mike Pettine.
