    • FFS guys relax. He meant playing golf for ten years after he retires in two years.
    • There’s a decent gap between the #9 and #10 corners. The Jets would ideally like to be on the #10 side of that, as would any team. He’s a terrific corner, though he doesn’t match up well against Waddle, whom he faces a couple times per year, and is historically closer to finishing up his prime than entering it. An extension would guarantee him through his age 29 and age 30 seasons. Also he’s a little guy who never had blazing speed, so once he loses that extra half step or more (which happens to the best of them, except Darrell Green who still probably runs at least a 4.5 right now) it could get ugly fast as he tries to keep up with each new crop of taller, faster 23-25 year-old wideouts.  While most of us would prefer to get this done earlier, just to see it done, I could see a scenario where they see how the season starts with him before doing an extension. Their absolute worst-case is one year in 2025 at the upper-end of the $ he’s probably seeking, as they’ll have the tag open to them; after that, by age or visible decline his 2026 season won’t be a bank-breaker even if he’s still mostly performing well. There’s little danger of a repeat of Huff’s departure: Huff refused extension offers here last spring and again during the season because he wanted to start and it wasn’t happening here, so it wasn’t purely about money. It’s just a different situation.
