The New York Daily News reports the Jets are showing "serious interest" in free agent Maurice Jones-Drew.

Jones-Drew won't be returning to Jacksonville after the Jags gave Toby Gerhart $4.5 million guaranteed. He'd be a nice addition to a Jets backfield without a reliable back. Chris Ivory is injury prone, while Mike Goodson is recovering from a torn ACL. MJD is very much on the downslope, however. He's not going to get as much money as Gerhart.

we will find out jones drew signs with another team for vet minimum and later hear that the jets offer wasn't in the ballpark

I believe he spends his summers there.

Martin got his wish, good for him. He gets to be close to his mommy and daddy and has Harbaugh protecting him. Hopefully that story is over. Not sure how long Harbaugh's lasting in SF though.

Why are people continously putting Decker's name out there as serious solution to the offense? The only reason he is being mentioned as a top FA WR is due to his two great statistical years with Manning throwing him the ball, and he also had the benefit of other targets on the team that gave him more opportunities to get open. It would be a waste of money to sign Decker at this point, he won't make the offense any better than drafting a rookie in the first or second round. I say we focus on re-signing Howard, getting Revis back on board and making a concerted effort at signing Miles Austin. Austin would be a great #2, and we can focus on finding a #1 WR in the draft.

Miles Austin is horrible. Guy has chopped meat for hamstrings. You will get what you pay for and not a penny more with him.

There's a ton of reasons why this might not work out for us that easily. Free agency is a two-way street. The Jets were a bad to mediocre team last year. They have a negative perception nationally as a poorly run organization. They have a god-awful offense without a legit QB. Teams with a lot of cap space were ****ed over because the cap was unexpectedly raised this year, leading to more competitors. New York is cold and has high state taxes. There is another team in New York that has been bashed less by the media as a joke organization.

The Jets have had their share of incompetence, but I'm inclined to believe the Jets are interested, but are attempting to remain disciplined in handing out contracts, or are just not a preferable destination right now all things considered. We're either going to have to "overpay" or wait until the market settles.

They've really mishandled the coaching situation, too. Every agent in the world knows that Rex is on a one-year deal. They either needed to lock him in to a four-year deal or fire him outright. As it stands, the entire organization is in purgatory. Couldn't be a less appealing situation for a free agent.

Disagree we have a top 8 defense and finished 8-8 with a rookie QB with bad WRs we are a few players away from greatness.

Considering the new CBA permits teams to transfer salary cap money over year to year with some regulation, is it possible that Idzik is willing to sacrifice being more competitive this year to have even more cap space next year? If we don't do anything in FA, you have to wonder...

It's not even been 24 hours, but many players we seemed to be in the market for have signed, if we haven't done anything substantial by the weekend, I'll start to think that Idzik just doesn't like the FA crop, and is willing to sit on the money, build through the draft and carry over savings into 2015.

We're a few players away from solid wild card contention. Like the 5th seed not sneaking in at 9 wins.

Coming into the off-season our highest priority needs were WR and WR. So far, only a handful of offensive lineman and defensive players have been signed, why exactly is everyone so up in arms?  Decker, Tate, Sanders, Edelman, Nicks, LaFell, Jones, Pettigrew, Dickson, Chandler etc. are all still out there.  Worse comes to worse on the defensive side, we could still resign Cromartie or look into Finnegan or another one of the castoffs.  It's been less than 7 hours, I say we pump the breaks and see what transpires over the next few days.
