devland
This year a record number of players have chosen not to attend the pro bowl. Jameis Winston is in the game after being the eighth player at his position to be either invited or announced in addition to the six quarterbacks voted in. Adam Jones named Tuesday, was the seventh alternate at cornerback. Pretty soon they will start naming practice players to fill out pro bowl squad. It is getting ridiculous Most players receive bonuses for getting voted in and don't actually have to attend the game. I have always thought that all star games were the second biggest rip off in sports behind old timers games. The old timer games are ridiculous. Who wants to see a washed up former player embarrass himself? You can see it for free at any local park.
Jet Nut
Every year it's the same. Every year someone asks the same question
Simijet
I think everyone knows the answer to this question. It's just a question of whose pocket money will be taken from. If the players union decided to protest, it could possibly provide the impetus to finally do away with the game.
JohnnyLV
The game is dumb. I would rather see a flag football game with the pro bowlers and some hall of famers than the actual pro bowl game
jdeacon
They ruined whatever appeal the pro bowl had ( which wasn't much) by moving it in front of the superbowl. Now I cant even imagine wasting a sunday watching that crap.
afosomf
even the overrated Butler passes on his 1st pro bowl, he should be grateful the little smuck. Had Cheats played some good qbs last yr, that secondary would be lit up like a griswold xmas tree. Pats sending the middle finger to NFL

faba
It is a waste- but if the NFL makes money off of it do not think it is going away
FloridaJetsFan
Corporations still buy up the tickets - like a poor man's Super Bowl - so they'll keep putting it on as long as that happens regardless of how many asses you actually see in the seats in the stadium which ain't many! munchmemory
The Pro Bowl was irrelevant for decades. Unless a Jet played, I almost never watched. But now that two tools (team "captains") pick the sides playground style, it has become a joke. End it please.
rex-n-effect
The NFL will never give up any game unless it can get more games somewhere else in the year in exchange. The Pro Bowl would probably go away if the NFL could get two more regular season games out of the players' union.
AzogtheDefiler
I would amend it to first yr. players vs. 2nd year players like the NBA where they young players can showcase their talents.
Beerfish
They should simply do this, if you turn down going to the pro bowl you are ineligible to be named to it next year.
The Crusher
Sean Taylor (RIP) hit on the kicker was the last Pro Bowl I watched.
56mehl56
They should just skip the game and send the Pro Bowl entrants to Hawaii on a vacation. No one would decline and the tv ratings would be virtually the same - 0.
jgb
The game is dumb. I would rather see a flag football game with the pro bowlers and some hall of famers than the actual pro bowl game that's an awesome idea actually. not only would it be a lot more fun, but a lot more people would love to watch Troy Aikman or Joe Montana throwing again. It would make more money too. And let's face it that's the only thing that matters to NFL.

TuscanyTile2
Yes. Replace it with a skills competition. Keep the game (why not) but add a QB skills competition. Remember back when they had a QB competition where they had to throw a ball to a moving target and it created a chalk mark on the target? This is back in the Battle Of The Network Stars days I'm referring to.
Xtina
Now that they got rid of the AFC vs NFC there isn't even that minimal reason to root for either side. Why on earth bother?
TuscanyTile2
They should make it an old-timer's game. Like old old guys.

Remember back when they had a QB competition where they had to throw a ball to a moving target and it created a chalk mark on the target? This is back in the Battle Of The Network Stars days I'm referring to. Used to love the skills competition. The NFL earns BILLIONS of dollars each year. You want the players to care about the probowl? Change it back to AFC vs NFC and have the winning team split $10 million bucks. I sure as hell would watch that! jetscrazey
Make it a skills competition. Which QB can throw it in a barrel from 40 yards away? Which receivers can make the best play on the corners 1 on 1? that sort of thing. They need to end the charade that anyone is interested playing real tackle NFL football for (by their standards) free. That mentality ended sometime during the 90s. The players are so strong and they hit so freaking hard nowadays, it's a real health risk.
