View him as a legit starter?  I don't think so.

Comfortable if they need to put him in there?  Absolutely.  I think he showed last year that he can be a solid, consistent contributor.  He just likely won't be a "difference maker" or key player that an offense needs to focus on like a Barr, Justin Houston, Nick Bosa, or Josh Allen would be considered.

This is really good news in my opinion.  We CAN start him if necessary, opposite Jordan Jenkins, and be respectable.  Those are really good numbers for a guy not in a full time role - 47 tackles, 20 QB hits and 5 sacks.  Assuming we address Edge in the draft (let's say Allen) I could see a passing down (3rd and long) package that has Allen and Copeland on the field coming from each edge and Gregg Williams designing some blitzes with Adams or Mosely coming up the middle.

It could be.  And, maybe that was the plan with the Jets....."Brandon, we want you back but we have a budget.  Do us a favor, give us a chance to match or exceed any offers that you get.  We want you back in Green and White."  He probably shopped himself and found that teams not named the Jets had some concerns that he was a "one year wonder."  If the Jets give him an extra $500K to keep him here I'm fine with that.

This is probably fairly obvious, but this signing is starting to provide the vibe/feel:

1) Jets will likely go Edge Rusher unless a great trade down is presented (meaning Bosa/Allen certainly is the Pick over DT Williams), Why, because we may have guys like Mclendon and such at DT, but he is atleast experienced, whereas the only pure edge rusher on the roster is Luvu and we cannot go into a season with just that off the edge especially with Roberts likely starting at CB.

2) With no clear cut position other than moving around the D, lee is most likely traded either before the draft or maybe as part of a package with the high 3rd rounder to get up a little higher to pick one of the top 3 Centers.

It is Allen unless we get blown away by an offer

Always appreciate when you do these updates, man!  At a certain point we'll need to pivot to a Depth Chart version rather than just the roster list.  I think that's where the real analysis about team strengths and weaknesses can take place.

This is a non-story. Jets signed another depth player in March to fill out the roster. I don't know why that is a reason to agonize.

To me it's a reason to celebrate. This dude played well with dunderheads coaching him. What can he do with Gregg Williams?

Truth is, I am hoping for this to happen.  It's probably a FA market value thing. I'm thinking they told him to go test the water to establish is value out there, and that wed love a shot at matching it to keep him here. He's another one with the talent to do the job that just seemed disinterested later in the season. The team was essentially mailing it in and he was one of those.

Not forgiving it, but he's a solid number 2 CB.

No Bean,  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.   Delores Clairborne is a solid stool sample.  He is allergic to physical contact with players on the opposing team.  Culture change or not, we don't want this marshmello in our secondary.

If there's nothing left in the market, slim pickings, let's go with what we have and draft a youngster.  We are stuck with Trumaine Johnson for the time being.  Let's not compound it by revisiting the" less than dynamic duo", from last year.  That won't help our team to move forward or upward.

Ya know, I am not against going with the young guys If that's our choice. I'd like nothing more than for one or more of our DB picks to work out. I like Nickerson in particular. My feeling is that we have been trying to go for a CBin FA but haven't been able to pull it together other than slot with Poole.

That's not a good situation.  Claiborne is another one who really suffered with Bowles/Rodgers IMO. He's a good corner. I'd feel better going into the season with him, but am totally fine with going with what we have if that's Williams' choice.

This is a position I really wanted to see upgraded. A lot of wheel-spinning here, instead.

Herndon looked to be the real deal last year and should be better with an off season.   Were you looking for another starting TE so they go 2 tight end often?

That and injury insurance. There's just not another reliable receiving TE on the roster.

Herndon, Leggett and Sterling is a reasonable set heading into the Draft.  They all have upside....each one of them.  And Herndon could become an outright weapon in the passing game.

I'm not sure how much of the 2 TE set we'll see.  I really think the Jets are going to have 3 WRs on the field a lot.  They didn't pay Crowder all that money to only play on 3rd downs.  The "weapons" on this team will clearly be Bell, Herndon, Enunwa, Anderson and Crowder.  They all bring something different and they're ALL expected to be excellent in the passing game.  Look at what the Pats have done with RB, TE, Slot WR over the years.  That's James White, Gronk and Edelman.  Tom Brady has carved up the league for years with those 3 guys and essentially a platoon of dudes at the outside WR spots.  Mark my words, the Jets offense will run through the personnel that lines up closest around Darnold on each snap....Bell, Herndon, Crowder.

That's 5 TEs now on the roster

Time for Tomlinson to go, he dropped catches last year that would have been first downs, I have seen enough of him....
