Darnold has been the (or close to the) worst starting QB for what like 4 years in a row? Don’t you think if there was a secret-FQB-in-hiding in there he would produce materially better than the truly terrible QBs also in bad situations?

And don’t you see it as problematic that the only remaining argument left for Darnold is supported by zero empirical evidence and can never be tested or validated in any way? And this argument is itself being foisted by those who were already wrong about Sam playing well away from Gase? Literally anything that Darnold does in the future can be twisted to fit it.

Continues to suck: “See, Gase did ruin him forever.”

Stops sucking: “See, he just needed to escape Gase after all.”

Sam quits football to become a hermit: “See, Gase completely broke him mentally.”

It’s objectively a dog sh*t hypothesis because it holds no predictive value. Consider that @Jetsfan80’s hypothesis has successfully enabled him to predict basically beat-for-beat what would happen in CAR, while Sam fans are always playing catch-up with the facts. They started with “Sam will finally thrive away from Gase” then pivoted to “Sam was broken forever by Gase” when that didn’t happen. Sam fans are always scrambling to explain away things that happened that contradict their argument while we are here predicting what will happen up front.

I wonder how that’s possible? Is it magic or ESP? No, it’s the validation of the hypothesis that Darnold sucks unfolding before our eyes in real time.

Darnoids aren’t even defending Darnold anymore. They are defending their own pride because it’s difficult to accept that the emotional capital they expended on Darnold was an utter waste.

this is laughable. Darnold is broke. Gase broke him.

That's it. honestly its embarrassing the level of absurdity people coming up with "darnoids" like wtf is that. He was a highly touted prospect, because of natural talent, and just because he came to the nfl and gase ruined him doesn't just poof change history.

Darnold had a good rookie season - fact. Darnold has been trash since - fact

Darnold will probably not ever recover with out more games with CC - fact.

You say it is dog sh*t but the hope of many was sam career wasn't ruined when he got away from Gase he could turn it around, but sadly it looks bad. He makes the same terrible mistakes and has the very same gase tendencies. That and apparently a scapula problem, but nevertheless it isn't crazy to have hoped he would have a resurgence and chance post gase. He was always a good person here and never clowned the team for the obvious roster and coaching issues.

When you have to play make believe like he wasn't a good talent or that peoples arguments change to prove your point. You are usually wrong.

You cant piss on my leg and tell me its raining. that will never work. And trying to say he was not talented nor his downfall wasnt gase related is ridiculous.

I think most people just don't want to argue with you because its old news and the vast majority agree with me and the truth leave haters like you guys in the deep dark corners of jet nation, but I dont mind shining a light on you really. You guys are crazy.

I always like Darnold, he was the hope of a better future that zach and even white represent today. BUT even Patriot fans know darnold was ruined by Gase, Just deal with it and move on.

The NFL is littered with highly-drafted/talented college QBs who stink in the pros. Most (like 90%, @Jetsfan80 listed them all out) who stink always stink and are never "fixed."

You can argue with me, if you want, but arguing with math isn't going to get you anywhere.

What's really laughable is how the Darnoids want everyone to just "move on" because the facts disproved their case. No, I don't think we will. So long as there are people clinging to disproven narratives, truth demands a response. Plus it's entertaining.

PFF's 26th ranked QB.

FO is behind a paywall now, but he was 30+ in DVOA and DYAR.

26th in YPG

26th in YPA

28th in QBR

31st in passer rating

31st in Comp%

30th in INT%

2nd most INTs despite only playing 13 games

"good rookie season"

Darnoids either twist everything he does into a success or excuse it away on other factors. This is not new news but their M.O.

This is why no Darnold supporter will ever give you a concrete opinion on what successful future performance for Darnold will look like.

The funniest version of this is how he was great after the injury.

It was 4 games after the injury, and two were bad.

Yep. And of course when he's winning games by dink and dunking to CMAC, then they love the topic. Soon as he shows (again) who he really is "Can't we all just move onnnnnnn? God da haterz sure are obsessed!"

Remember in 2019 when the Jets went 7-9 with Gase in charge, Darnold finished on a strong note, and people were praising Gase for being part of that?

I remember.

Repeating this laughable take over and over does not make it true.  It's the equivalent of you putting your fingers in your ears and yelling "la la la!"

Gase may not have helped Darnold's career, but he didn't ruin it.

Darnold dinking and dunking to CMC:  Good

Mike White dinking and dunking his way to the first 400+ yard game by a Jets QB in over 2 decades:  Bad

So did Nico leave yet?

Which time? Who can keep up.

Setting himself for next mega rage quit by his personal and nasty full wang defense of Zach.

Some people never learn.

Ironically I was more optimistic about Zach until I saw how deep nico is in the can for him. Dude is the Eddie Mush of JN.

You guys are ridiculous.

Who exactly are you talking about here? Woody Johnson? Cause no one thought darnold was playing well. Unlike his rookie season where he showed promise.

No one really disputes that darnold plays bad right now. The argument that you guys seems to pretend didn't start is that darnold was not a good prospect and Gase didn't ruin him with his terrible coaching. You tried to make him out as a bad prospect that is just not true. He showed talent in the NFL capable of paying at the highest level in his rookie season...then gase got him and trashed him. He playee some great ball down the stretch with a barely NFL level system his rookie year. The Gase years were well gase years and broke his confidence and prevented him from ever becoming a good qb.

That is not twisting anything. I'm not sure why you guys hate darnold but he wasn't a bum at any point in his life. He made one hell of an effort to try to overcome gase.

You can disagree fine, but let's not pretend you guy are right about your make believe narrative about darnold.

Yes, he was a bad prospect who people thought was a good prospect.  People got it wrong when they evaluated Darnold.  It happens.  Rhule evaluated Darnold poorly as well, and he had 3 years of NFL tape on Darnold prior to trading for him.

And for the umpteenth time, Darnold having a few nice games does not an NFL QB make (you overstate this by calling any of his games "great", but whatever).  Even Ryan Leaf had a game where he threw 3 TDs.  JaMarcus Russell had 2 games where he posted a QB rating north of 110.  Joey Harrington and Kyle Boller each had a 4-TD game as well as multiple games where they posted a 110+ QB rating.  Yet you probably have no problem saying those guys sucked.

Showing "flashes" does not mean a QB is secretly good.  It merely demonstrates that even the biggest busts were capable of looking good from time to time.  Having some talent, which I fully admit Darnold has, makes this possible.

No one "hates" Darnold.  But he was indeed a bum.  He was a bum his final year at USC and all 4 seasons he's been in the NFL.  And now the whole NFL world sees it with finality.  Seemingly everyone but you and Nico seem willing to accept that Darnold sucks and always has sucked.  Thus threads like these live on.  Because its fun to dismantle these terrible arguments.  And it doesn't hurt that people threw a Darnold victory lap earlier this season and now are telling us to shut up about Darnold as if that never happened.

Darnold’s defenders are soft just like he is. They’re all calling for a mercy rule. Lol.

I just love when these drama queens have to make an announcement that they are leaving.  Usually, it is someone who I have never heard of, or at least haven't taken note of.

In contrast, I am announcing in advance that when and if I leave this place there will be no announcement and absolutely no one will notice or care.

That’s the thing. Scouting college QBs for the pro game is the most difficult thing to do in sport. So much is as-of-yet unevaluatable mental characteristics. He was a bad prospect — but we just didn’t know it until he came into the league and stunk.

Nico had a double tap epic loss of mouth-frothing defense of Darnold and Zach. I’d bet he lives in a cave now and avoids the Internet.
