Popular Post Defense Wins Championships
Sewell is a phenom in pass protection and yes a much better blindside pass protector than Becton (who's already allowed 6 sacks this year). If we draft Penei Sewell he automatically becomes our LT and Becton as more of a road grading mauler will slide over to RT (where he belongs when in comparison to Penei Sewell). Becton fell to #11 for a reason. Sewell would never fall past #3. Sewell is BETTER than Becton @ LT ppl.

That line would gel FAST with Becton in his 2nd year, 3 veterans manning the inside in Thuney, Lindsey & McGovern. Cut Fant, save 8 million, that means you revamped your entire Oline in 2 years & only paid Lindsey approx. 2 million (Fants 8 + 2, 10 million per year) & Thuney (probably between 13/15 Million). That would still leave approx. 80-85 million in free agency.

Thuney at LG and Sewell at RG too would be sick. Sewell can slot anywhere other than center so that's another value. They can make this OL a top 10 unit this offseason if they want. What a waste

Teams only get a 5 year window at the Super Bowl anyway. You think Green Bay beats KC in a shootout? Only way you beat Mahomes is to keep him on the sideline so he doesn’t get into that crazy rhythm he loves! You need a balanced offense to take over in the 4th & have him watch you covert & tire out his defense while he’s twiddling his thumbs on the sideline. Vader
While tempting, financially and re resource management, drafting Sewell is not realistic — unless Douglass has a gun to his head. You don’t draft two Franchise LT’s in successive years — that’s asking for roster/contract trouble in just a few years, if not sooner. What would the team gain by playing two Franchise LTs, one out of position, for a few years? This position is so coveted and Sewell such a good prospect, the Jets are virtually guaranteed to get an acceptable trade back offer.

Vader
32 minutes ago, neckdemon said: if they get an amazing trade back offer then do it. otherwise draft sewell and build an incredible oline That’s my point — you can’t really build an incredible OL with two Franchise LTs. You would have a few years, max, if that, if they both “cooperate”. You will have to sign one to a second “Franchise LT” contract, and no GM would sign a RT to a duplicative “Franchise LT” contract, and I am willing to bet one of these two players would not cooperate with playing at a lower positional value for very long.... The “Other” OT would have to be traded well before the second contract in order to get any real value back. The only way you draft Sewell is in recognition that either he or Becton are gone in a few years, and you will get a few years of dominant bookend Tackle play (not even guaranteeing interior line play) and the one playing RT will NOT be happy. Love the idea of wasting 2 overall on a player that at his peak may only end up marginally better than our current starter. Guess what Sewell is super good but Sewell has played fewer vertical pass sets than other 1st round prospects in this draft. Wanna go further, Sewell’s greatest gift is lateral quickness, a trait usually highly regarded for Guards. Unless Sewell runs under a 4.8 he’s going to rate physically not much differently than Tristan Wirfs and Mekhi Becton who are elite physical talents. There is no value in drafting Sewell and replacing Becton with him. In their career peak Becton and peak Sewell will ever negligibly different. He’s a great talent and represents a bigger improvement over Elflien at G than he would Fant at Tackle. In the end taking him at two is a bad idea for this team. If we were the Bengals I wouldn’t even hesitate.
Boynton Beach Jets
As good as it sounds great drafting Sewell, would be great in fantasy. Would be great line no doubt for the next 3-4 years, We need to look 4-5 years down the road where you cannot afford to invest top dollar in two tackles. Today's football you need to look 4-5 years down the line. We neglected to do that when we drafted a box safety in Jamal Adams. Lets face it the Jets are not ready to contend in the next 1-2 years, so to invest so much draft capital in Sewell is not practical, If it was up to me I trade back a couple of picks and accumulate additional draft capital. Then, sign Thuney or Sherff, and move McGovern to G. Yup. Similar thoughts. Sign Thuney and put him next to Becton. Draft a top rated C/OG and for 2021 play that rookie at RG next to McGovern. In 2022, move the rookie to Center and let McGovern go. Fant is serviceable at RT for 2021 and the Jets have at least 3 other guards who could compete for RG while Thuney plays LG (Lewis, GVR, Clark). The key to the OLine in 2021 is signing someone like Thuney and drafting a top rated Center/OG prospect who wouldn't be taken at #2 and could be found at the beginning of Round 2 (Creed Humphrey, Josh Myers, Rashawn Slater?). This lets the Jets improve the OLine while still having the #2 overall pick do what they please.
QB1
You are underrating becton. His measurables make Sewell look like a third rounder in comparison. He dominated as a rookie and is arguably already the best LT in football. It’s highly unlikely that Sewell is as good as Becton. The idea of moving Becton to the right after how well he’s played makes no sense.
