Aaron Glenn to Detroit as DC (MERGED)

Mods can merge if appropriate. There was talk Glenn could be DC here. This makes sense as him and Campbell have worked together for years

From PFT:

Dan Campbell is bringing Aaron Glenn with him to Detroit.

Campbell, the new Lions head coach, will hire Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Glenn and Campbell have worked together on the Saints’ staff for the last five years.

The 48-year-old Glenn was a first-round draft pick of the Jets in 1994 and had a 15-year NFL playing career. This will be his first coordinator job after seven seasons as an assistant coach.

Not a single other organization interviewed Glenn for a HC position. We did him a solid because of his history with the team. He seems like a smart guy who is on his way, but the clamoring for him to get the DC job is pure emotion.

@QB1

mac miller thumbs up GIF ?

Sorry for your loss

FYI...hearing Ricky Manning Jr. is going to be Assistant DB Coach.  Connecting dots...is Kris Richard next as DC or DB Coach?

Complete rebuild about to start in New Orleans no matter what anyone says.  Losing Brees will be like the Patriots losing Brady.  Losing Campbell, Glenn and maybe other coaches will hurt too.  Michael Thomas is facing numerous offseason surgeries and Alvin Kamara counts $14.5M against the Cap next year.  Jameis Winston will be a UFA and Taysom Hill, although a nice player, doesn't look like an every week starting QB to me.  I wonder if N.O. would be a good trade destination for Sam Darnold if the Jets go Watson, Wilson or Fields?

Would have liked him at Florham park, but congratulations to him.

The holdup with Glenn has been that he has DC options elsewhere, as @JosinaAnderson said, but Detroit is the clear favorite for him, I'm told.

Dan Campbell and the #Lions have agreed in principle to a six-year contract, per source. The #Saints assistant head coach is expected to take Aaron Glenn with him as defensive coordinator.

Totally agree.  They went all-in for 2020 and lost.  They don’t have enough players to cut to get them close to the cap.  And they have FOUR draft picks this year!  Worse yet, Hill counts for $16mm against the cap in 2021.  They don’t have draft picks to give up for Darnold so it would have to be Darnold for Lattimore.  Maybe they trade Sean Payton to the Eagles for picks.

Fire sale in New Orleans this year!

"Interesting trades considered" - Kramer

In all seriousness, the Saints are a team that the Jets and their abundance of Cap space should look at targeting for a trade.  New Orleans needs picks, even mid-round picks, and they need to unload salary.....and they need a QB.  Whoa nelly!  That's ugly.

Maybe the Jets help the Saints unload some salary by looking at some excellent but expensive players?
