I would not give big money to any of these guys.  Be patient and build this roster through the draft.

Winning games is not the goal next year.

The worst thing we could possibley do is spend big in free agency and win 8 games next year.

Who are we tanking for next year?

NFL rumors: Jets linked to Packers’ Aaron Jones in free agency buzz

Updated 6:22 AM; Today 6:20 AM
Week 14: Lions-Packers

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones is a free agent this year.AP

It’s no secret the New York Jets need upgrades on offense. A big one could be coming at running back. The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports the Jets are being linked to Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones.

SportsBook Review’s Ian Wharton said: “Miami or the Jets are the two teams most likely to sign him, from what I’ve heard.”

Indianapolis-based reporter Evan Massey reported that Jones “is expected to receive heavy interest from the Dolphins, 49ers, Steelers and Bears. Plenty of other teams will have interest, but those four are teams to keep a close eye on. Green Bay would like to re-sign him as well.” He later added the Jets to that list.

The Jets have been down this road before, throwing a lot of cash at Le’Veon Bell two years ago. Bell lasted less than two seasons before being cut.

Bell, as you recall, came to the Jets after sitting out the 2018 season in a contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Steelers. On the other hand, Jones is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in Green Bay. In four year with the Packers, Jones has scored 43 touchdowns, including 37 on the ground.

Pro Football Focus rates Jones as the best running back on the market this year. PFF predicts Jones will land in the AFC East, but not with the Jets, projecting the 26-year-old will get a four-year, $46 million contract (with $25 million guaranteed) from the Miami Dolphins.

NFL rumors: QB carousel is stuck, and Sam Darnold, Jets are part of the reason why

Updated 2:03 PM; Today 2:01 PM
Sam Darnold

The New York Jets are considering trading quarterback Sam Darnold.AP

This time last week, the NFL quarterback carousel was spinning out of control. The Detroit Lions had traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagleswere about to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts.

However the carousel has come to a screeching halt since then and may not resume for quite some time. That’s according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“It looked like this was spinning and spinning, going fast and now it seems, from talking to the teams involved, the teams who still need a quarterback, and some of the teams who may end up trading a quarterback, everyone seems pretty stuck right now. And here are the reasons why.

“The Jets are not going to make a decision on Sam Darnolduntil at least they complete their quarterback evaluations. That is not going to happen at least until April, so you’ve got time there. When teams have called the Houston Texans on Deshaun Watson, on trading, not just trading for Watson but trading for anyone, what they’ve been told, essentially, is no on Watson, but could talk about potentially a lot of other players, but no on Watson.

Marcus Mariota had an active trade market as of last week. Sounds like that has dried up for a couple of different reasons. Teddy Bridgewater, I know the Panthers have gotten some calls. That is nowhere now. It seems as if everyone is stuck waiting for the next shoe to drop and I don’t get the sense it’s any time soon.”

Seriously, what do you suggest we spend the cap money on?

We have an abundance of cap space because we have no one on our current team on which to spend it.

First, there is actually a minimum we have to spend - Second, anything you save between the min and max is just saving Woody Johnson's money.  Why do you care about saving him money?

Very well put. No reason not to spend. There are a bunch of good free agents that would help this team now and still be major contributors when and if they turn this thing around. Can’t wait for free agency to start.

Richard Sherman could be a free agent target for New York Jets

Richard Sherman, 49ers, Jets, NFL Rumors Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

The 2021 offseason is an important one for the New York Jets. The trajectory of the franchise could be altered greatly depending on what they do with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. They will certainly be a team to watch in NFL rumors.

The question people are asking most is whether or not they will select a quarterback. Trevor Lawrence seems to be the unanimous No. 1 pick heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.

The Jets could go several different ways. They could select one of the other top quarterback options in this year’s draft class, Zach Wilson out of BYU or Justin Fields from Ohio State. Or, they could hold onto the young quarterback they already have in Sam Darnold, whom they selected No. 3 overall in 2018, and build around him.

There are compelling arguments to be made for any of those three options at quarterback. What is not up for debate, however, is that the rest of the Jets roster needs an overhaul, especially the defensive side of the ball.

New head coach Robert Saleh was an excellent defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers before landing the job as the head man with the Jets. Improving on that side of the ball will help get New York back on track. Could we see one of Saleh’s former players following him to the East Coast?

According to Pro Football Focus, cornerback Richard Sherman is someone that the Jets should prioritize targeting in free agency. The fit makes sense on a lot of levels.

Sherman has experience playing for Saleh, spending the previous three seasons with the Niners. The Jets are also in desperate need of an upgrade at cornerback. New York expected that to come from Trumaine Johnson, their big-ticket free-agent acquisition in 2018 whom they signed to a five-year, $72.5 million deal. Unfortunately, he flamed out after playing only 17 games with the franchise.

Sherman has some injury concerns of his own, but he is the type of player the Jets could use. He knows the system Saleh will put in and is an experienced winner. He knows what it takes to get the job done and is someone younger guys such as Blessaun Austin, Bryce Hall and Lamar Jackson can learn from.

Pursuing Richard Sherman is a no-brainer for Gang Green. They have plenty of money to spend and with Marcus Maye and Brian Poole impending free agents, they are going to have to add some reinforcements to their defensive backfield.

Source from inside the organization believes the team will ultimately sign JuJu Smith-Schuster. Curtis Samuel is of interest, but "half the league" will be in on him.

Surprised to hear that Samuel is that sought after. If the interest in him is really that big, you would think there are only a limited number of teams that could afford him.

I think a few things to keep in mind are (1) his versatility; (2) his age; (3) his talent/ceiling; and (4) his price.

Samuel isn't going to get away with demanding $16-20 million APY like some of these other guys will hold out for, which prices out a bulk of the league. However, a lot more teams will be able to afford an $8-12 million APY, and the teams in cap trouble can probably structure a 3-4 year deal with a very low 2021 cap hit more reasonably than a guy whose going to demand more money. I would really love to see the Jets sign him because I think he has the greatest chance of being a Robert Woods like free agency addition (a guy who is better in his second contract than his first) and the Jets could really use a guy with game breaking explosiveness like he has, but I think there will be too much competition for him. I think he can end up anywhere from Washington to Green Bay to Kansas City. I'm just hoping he prefers to be closer to come (from Brooklyn)

After two seasons, the Titans will move on from Adam Humphries. Tennessee will release its slot receiver, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets.

The Titans will save $4.75MM by making this move. Acquired after four seasons with the Buccaneers, Humphries ended up being a non-factor with the Titans. They will add some funds during an offseason that features Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith as free agents-to-be.

First I heard it would be the Giants, then I heard it was possible he'd return to the Steelers on a team friendly 4-year deal, and most recently a source in the organization said they expect him to be a Jet.

He controls where he ends up and its clear he really wants to be a Steeler, but the Jets will be in on him.

I think the Steelers and JuJu will have a mature and amicable parting of ways. I think both sides will make it clear that they have interest in working together in the future, but the time isn't right for the Steelers. Ultimately, I expect him to sign with the Jets.

This one is big. I think it puts the Jets right up at the top of potential destinations. I think they would prefer Thuney/Scherff, but if it becomes clear to them that those guys won't be in the cards, they'll pursue Linsley hard.

If there's no Samuel or JuJu in free agency, will the team turn to a broader approach
and go for Corey Davis AND Kendrick Bourne?  Spread the $$$ around at WR and improve
the depth

Davis is the only name you mentioned the Jets should have any interest in
