Too many people have made viewing the United States the same way the view religion, as perfect and infallible in it's consistent greatness and perfection, a core part of their self-identify. You can see it in this thread, the various people who feel an overwhelming need to "explain" slavery or obfuscate Americas sins by blaming others, by blaming the victims even, by claiming it wasn't so bad really, or everyone was doing it, or making it about this political party or that today, in various laughable ways, because they simply cannot accept that America and Americans did something wrong.
