Almost getting sacks? He leads the team in sacks currently at 8 with a lot less snaps than others

Yup.  And he has been the king at almost getting sacks.  He simply will not be worth $20 million a year.

the cavalier attitude that Douglas has seemingly had towards Huff is strange. The idea that these guys grow on trees is an interesting one.

It's probably easy to believe that seeing as we have had a top defensive line since he has been here and we have used them rotationally.

They’d be run over. No need to pass against that lineup

Maybe, they’re both pretty standard stand up players - part of why off fronts have more big linemen.

I'm pretty confident wherever he signs he's going to be an every down player and have his best year as a pro....

That’s fine.  I’m sure he will have to be to validate his huge contract.
He’s going to have to stand up to a lot more hits, a lot more wear and tear to his body and a lot more plays where he doesn’t get a free lane to the QB.
He’s especially not an every down lineman on this team

Hell no. We may have went into this season with the worst OL/ offense in the NFL, but Joe Douglas saw the biggest need was to use our top draft pick on our most dominant unit.

Yeah as much as I like Huff we can’t keep fishing out huge contracts on the defense when we obviously need to focus on improving the offense in the short window we have with AR.  I think the Jets tag and trade Huff

Next stop Giants. This off season will see several of our best players looking for greener pastures even though they are under contract. They will try to force their way out. Being on this incompetently managed and coached team is impacting their bottom line in their mind and the league is becoming like the NBA in terms of players dictating where they play. Wait for it.

Should franchise tag him and trade him get back 3rd or second round pick thus guy is not every down player he is situational pass rusher should have traded him this year. Your not giving this guy 15 million a year to play 1 down a series. look at his stats he sucks against the run the Jets drafted his replacement. The Jets need major help on offense this guy is a luxury.

Knowing Lawson would never return to form and Huff would have to be replaced?  Hell no.

Good for Huff. Always nice to see an UDFA hit it big on open market. Hopefully Jets bring him back he had a great year!

He's absolutely right.  He worked for his money.  He shouldn't give us (or anyone) any discount.  Good for him.  Get your bag.

Would Saleh classify Bryce Huff as a "Contender"?

https://footballscoop.com/news/robert-saleh-breaks-down-the-4-levels-of-competitors

Saleh imparted some wisdom on the 4 levels of competitors that exist on any team.

"These four levels represent a mindset that we all have complete control over. External factors like playing ability and injuries have no bearing on which level we stand."

"You've got Commanders, you've got competitors, you've got contenders, and you've got survivors."

"I promise you, everyone in this room falls into one of these categories."

"At the bottom, are your Survivors. A Survivor is someone who does just enough to get by. He coasts through his day and does not maximize his mental capabilities. This group loves taking the easy way out. They love it, and they are so miserable that they will do everything they can to bring you along with them. The sad part is, every organization has at least one, and I promise you, you can't hide."

"The next level of competitor is a group of contenders. A contender is someone who is motivated by external factors like playing time, money, fame, or the person he is going against. He will only reach his potential if the external motivators are threatened."

"The third level, the one we seek, is a group of competitors. A competitor is someone who is internally motivated to be his best regardless of the situation. His place on the depth chart does not matter. Money does not matter. Fame does not matter. He is always trying to absolutely be his best. He can't be swayed because he is already maxing out his potential. This dude is trying to PR every day of life. He's got a championship mindset. When you have a championship mindset, you embarrass the sh*tty ones and you make the great ones look normal."

"The final one is the Commander. He basically has all the traits of a competitor, with one exception. He brings people with him."

Any UDFA that gets to where Huff is at is at least a competitor. I also hate BS like this

How we view losing Huff will all depend on how McDonald does next year.  If he comes in and has 10 plus sacks on a good D no one will worry about Huff.  If McDoald fails and Huff has a big year then there will be much angst.

Couldn’t agree more.

Meanwhile, the dipsh*ts in charge are peddling Picasso comparisons to Aarons practice habits. Like, how do they think he got to be a 20 year veteran? Maybe his practice is simply the standard of good players and the brass shouldn’t be lauding it like they’ve never seen a professional practice.

This pretty dumb on Huff part actually - he sh just let the highest bidder win instead of putting stipulation on maybe making some teams not bid

Yes, I’m sure that’ll stop them.

Also, consider this… this regime has prioritized pass rusher for 3 off seasons? Yet, the one you have, who delivers the goods… you don’t lock him up?

Wasn’t a JD pick. Stinks of more hubris.

Huff had a 10:1 pass/run last year, 3:1 this year at higher volume. It’s a lot of work to carve out an ideal role for a limited player. This was one thing when Huff was cheap and there was nobody else to rush the passer anyway. Now he’s going to have a contract and there’s tons of roster spots devoted to the DL and continuing to use him as they have is taking primo snaps away from better players than the ones they used to have. This is a textbook case of a guy you let walk.
