Idk, part of me thinks it would be better to have him only take LT reps.

Fair enough, but if he's dominating in camp, its going to be tough to keep him off the field.

I think he'll start the season as a swing tackle and he'll fill either OT position if/when Smith or Moses go down. He'll be the primary backup at both spots.

   I don’t quite understand why so many fans not liking this pick. Our OL has been ranked at the very bottom for years. Smith and Moses age, average talent and injury histories sure doesn’t  catapult the OL closer the top. There also was zero quality depth on the bench. Last time the jets were any good we had a strong OL. For once in many years is not looking like the same liability it has been for so long..

It’s a very vocal, very small minority. It was the smart pick.

What I love most about this pick is that it seems like we are looking at the long future and not panicking because it could be their last year and taking a high risk pick in hopes that one more weapon can save them.

I’m impressed with jd, he took the LT the team desperately needed for both the short and longer term.  Shows jd sticking to his board and also, sticking to his philosophy of trying to build the OL and valuing the right positions.  Also says i expect to be here next year to pick the next qb.

Rodgers has hinted they will look at him at guard. That seems to imply AVT may not be ready which sucks.

Considering how many games will be missed at the tackle spot due to jury, this is a win now move.  I think only picking a wr would’ve been better and once Harrison, nabers and odunze were gone it had to be one of the top tackles.  Plus, as Douglas indicated, they were fielding a lot of phone call before they drafted.  They probably had a chance to move further back but fashanu is a really good player and can place left tackle.

Yet it’s funny to read several ‘draft grades’ of our pick at a B or so b/c the correct win now pick was Brock bowers.  The media had its collective heart set on bowers to the jets and rodgers throwing to him.  It’s a big letdown for them.

Everybody gets way too caught up in the win now stuff. Yes Rodgers is old and the Jets of course want to win now but they also want to be set up for later as well. Despite the attempts to paint narratives, the Jets entire universe does not revolve around Aaron Rodgers for eternity.

The people knocking this pick present as if they wanted the Jets to make an ‘all-in’ (ugh) pick just to see it crash and burn for the story. I can see the ‘Jets chase the headlines instead of making smart football decisions, this is not a serious franchise’ headline already.

In no simulation is this a bad or wrong pick. In fact… OL was probably the best possible route and I was able to admit that even though I wanted Odunze over everybody

We drafted a project player vs a ready to go impact player in Bowers.

IF we had a young QB,  I would have liked the pick more but we dont-we have a we have a 40 year old qb who if we are lucky has 2 years in him) and by all accounts this pick is a depth pick that we will develop over  time.

Are you serious? Elaborate. AVT and Becton. That's JDs 1st round OL history. Thats it.

Becton flashed but busted, largely due to injuries. AVT is a stud but has dealt with some injuries as well. Hopefully will come back strong again this year. He is NOT a bust and is still a major part of this team and anchor on the oline.
