Where do we go from here ?

Recommended Posts

Hire a Head Coach who is going to take the organization by the balls and drag it into contention.

A fancy play caller, a rah-rah cheerleader, an X’s and O’s guru will not suffice if they don’t have an alpha personality to match football intelligence.

Hate Parcells / Love Parcells we need that kind of hire now. Hire the right assistants, set up a real program of development and accountability for the players.

pretty simple, beat the patsies, texans, cards, and colts.  brings everything back in focus.  reddick will help more than people may think.  hopefully reed and carter will be back for most of those games.

Do you mean what would a smart owner do? Or do you want to know what will actually happen?

Smart:

  • Hire Director of Football Operations right now (Pete Carroll?). New Director to assess current organization and roster through end of year
  • Director also to begin exploring options for new GM, head coach to be ready for hire immediately after season ends
  • Full-on youth (Olu, LBers, skill players) movement on the field. Veterans sit behind rookies in many cases
  • Rodgers is advised this will be his final season as a NYJ, org would be happy to facilitate/promote farewell tour
  • Explore trades for literally anyone on this roster. If reasonable draft pick comp becomes available in exchange, pull trigger. Sauce and Garrett should be out the door and fetch decent compensation.

Hope that Rodgers takes enough of a beating that he retires and we can blow this up and start over.

Going 8-9 and deluding ourselves that this can be salvaged with Rodgers running it back is the worst case scenario.

No idea who we can get as a head coach even if we start from scratch but if we're hiring under the guise of this being the Rodgers and Woody show we have no hope.

First, you hire a veteran GM. Not a rookie

Second, this veteran GM hires a veteran HC, not a rookie.

Third, this veteran GM signs a veteran QB to cover the job for 2 to 3 years.

Fourth, draft oline and dline. Not QB.

No one who meets any of these descriptions is coming to work for this franchise in its current iteration.

Anyone saying this is simply talking out of their ass and frankly, contributing absolutely nothing to the conversation.

There's nothing to suggest that "X" candidate wouldn't come here without assessing the options, including the circumstances of the offer and the many documented potential benefits unique to this role, even if you know who "X" is. Doesn't work that way.

Where’s the NFL thinking of expanding next?

Relocate the Jets there instead.

it’s time.

London but the NFL is not giving up a NY team that is highly profitable even during a decade + of futility to fill that slot.

Blackout teams like the Jaguars will be primed to the London Regals or whatever garbage name they come up with.

Don’t see that happening. I’m resigned to Rex coming back as the best we can hope for.

Aside from the fact that I have to agree that no coach who wants the run of his team would come here thanks to Woody, I do not see Rex coming back to the Jets at any level. I don't even know why I feel that way.

No one worth their salt is coming to work for an owner with a long and failed history of undermining his employees. Parcells took one look at Woody and said, “later,” and then Belichick scribbled out a note on a napkin and ran out of town. And that was before Woody had a history. With the Saleh firing, the team is back to hoping to land their fifth or sixth choice to work for them. The same place they were in when they hired Idzik and Bowles and Maccagnan and Gase. The brief window of normalcy ended when Woody got back from England.

GM and HC candidates turned down interviews with the Jets during previous cycles, and that was before Woody took control of the day to day operations of the team.

There's a huge difference between "Woody is an obstacle" (factual) and stating that it can't happen (emotion-based opinion).

It's not any less stupid if you just keep repeating it. With the right offer and the right ego, it CAN happen.

You're simply incorrect.
