Sorry, not a huge deal, but I really liked this guy.

Twitter. @Steiny31
#Jets have waived DL Ropati Pitoitua. They also officially announced the signings of PK Josh Brown and LS Derek Chard.

Very surprised about this, although Marcus Dixon did come on relatively strong towards the end of last year. Could just mean that they expect Ellis to contribute much more this year and that Pito was just the odd man out.

He was easily the least athletic DL on the roster. Kind of a statue really...A giant statue, but a statue nonetheless.

This had to come. Pitoitua was all the rage before he got hurt, and before the Jets took DEs in the first round of consecutive drafts.

IS THIS A SIGN that Ellis might be ready sooner rather than later, or is this Coples related?

Assume we all know Dixon can ball here.

Yeah Dixon came out of nowhere and really made the most of his snaps.

IIRC he did in 2010 as well.

Can't carry excess in other units when you're going to have 4-5 running backs on the active roster. 9 DL is a lot for this D. Especially since we line up Pace and Thomas down so much too.

(Chandler)'s a nice piece as long as he's the 7th most important player on your roster....I think they're going to be disappointed when they see he's just a pumped-up Drew Gooden.

Not actually all that surprised. I had said from even before the drafting of Coples that he was the most likely of any of the DL to lose his job this summer. After Coples was drafted, the only shot he had was if the Jets decided to trade someone else away. The bottom line is Pouha, DeVito, Wilkerson, Coples, Ellis and Dixon are all stone cold locks for the roster, barring trade or injury. And this is on the same team that had what, only 4 DL on the active roster by the end of 2010? At this point the rest of the guys on the DL are going to be fighting it out for practice squad spots and not much more.

TL;DR amirite?

Dixon can actually play. Pitoitua was just big & tall. He'll land somewhere for depth -- you can't teach size.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

It s logjam on the line and he was the easiest of the guys to cut. I wouldn't be stunned if there is more to come.

Can someone please explain to me why Rex would say something negative about one of his players? Even if he thought the guy sucked, it would make no sense for a coach to say it publicly.

You really think Rex believes Eric Smith is good NFL safety?

Exactly. You never know if you may use them in some type of package trade or something. You cant do that if the other team can look an old press conference and see you trashing the dude you're about to trade to them lol.

Only Jets fans HATE the potential of new draft picks with overwhelming ability and talents, but LOVE the potential of practice squad roster bottom feeders that might have shown a "flash" once... Or at least in the opinion of the advocate.

Dude, there's still guys on this board who are pissed that Brett Ratliff never got a fair shot.

-I pretty much blame most of the Jets offensive problems on Brian "the worst play caller in the NFL" Shotty-boy....
