kelly
Reviewing the New York Jets' 2015 season, position-by-position : Position : Running back Overall grade : B Individual grades : Chris Ivory B+, Bilal Powell B+, Stevan Ridley D,Zac Stacy D, Tommy Bohanon C. Summary : Ivory had a strange season. There's no other way to put it. For the first six weeks, he was one of the premier runners in the league. After that, he flashed elite form on occasion, but he wasn't able to sustain it. By Week 17, he was relegated to a part-time role and had only six carries, one of the coaching moves that will be talked about through the offseason. In the end, he rushed for a career-high 1,070 yards, fifth in the NFL. What triggered his slowdown? Injuries? Fatigue? Yes, those probably were factors, but let's not overlook the blocking. In Weeks 1 to 6, Ivory averaged 2.73 yards before initial contact, according to ESPN Stats & Information. After Week 6, it was only 1.82. Maybe he lost some burst, but most of the decline can be attributed to inconsistent blocking. Powell's value was on display in the season finale, even if he wasn't. Without him, the offense was out of rhythm, especially on third down. He set career highs in catches (47) and receiving yards (388). He probably would've finished with 60 or 70 receptions if he hadn't missed five games due to injuries. He was the most underrated player on the team. ... Ridley, never able to shake the rust from his knee surgery, was a disappointment. He was a half-step slow and tentative at times, not trusting his blocking. ... Bohanon had only six touches in his fullback spot. As a blocker, he was average. Noteworthy number : 535 -- the number of rushing yards with four wide receivers on the field. It was a league high, 413 yards more than the next team. Playing-time percentages (based on 1,114 snaps) : Ivory 49, Powell 33, Bohanon 24, Stacy 13, Ridley 8. PT analysis : Todd Bowles doesn’t think he overworked Ivory. The statistics support the coach's claim, as Ivory was 16th among running backs in total snaps. You have to be careful with him because of his violent running style; he needs to be managed. Powell would've been close to 40 percent if he had stayed healthy. The bulk of Stacy’s work came when Powell was banged up. He got hurt when Powell returned. Ridley never found a niche, which made the decision to start him in the finale all the more surprising. > http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-jets/post/_/id/57921/jets-rb-chris-ivorys-season-from-monster-to-ghost
prime21
I remember after a few games I actually thought that Ivory was becoming a Marshawn Lynch LITE version. It was very disappointing watching him end the season as a back up to a player that did nothing all year.
JustInFudge
What the coaching staff did with Chris Ivory vs. the Bills was criminal. Someone should be locked up for it. Stevan Ridley was the game plan? **** sake. smh

Stevan Ridley was the game plan? **** sake. smh Having Sanchez throw the ball 45 (give or take a few) against the Giants is up there too...but what they did with Ivory in Buffalo...I can't think of a worse decision in recent history by a Jets staff. I love Fitz and the year he had, but having him throw it all over the place with wind gusts of 20+ MPH while making Ridley the feature back? It's like Kotite was in charge for a day. drsamuel84
Tough runner who has been one of my favorite Jets the last few years but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a goner. Him and Powell are just injured way too much to be relied on going into next year and with the state of the cap I don't see us being able to keep both. Powell is the more dynamic player and I think Ivory is replaceable so I'm not expecting Ivory here next year. I could actually see him being a Giant next year with the the $50mm they have to spend and the need for another back.
Rangers9
Actually one reason Idzik traded for him was because of not only his productivity with the Saints but the fact that as a RB he wasn't overused. Even young Rbs have short shelf lives if they are used too much. But over the course of even one season too many reps plus injuries can slow a player down and make them less explosive. And not as quick. Ivory did have that 50 plus yard run in the Buff game which was something we saw earlier in the season. I wasn't crazy about the playcalling either. As for Ridley he was coming off of injuries but overall he was very mediocre. Not sure if they will bring him back. I'd definitely draft a Rb this season. And a return specialist. Not sure you can get both in one player. Love to get a guy like Sproles or Oliver (San Diego), a guy who could be available (he had turf toe in Nov. and put on IR), If we could I'd make a trade for him if healthy. Doesn't matter...if he was healthy enough to break a 50+ yard run, looking every bit like the dominant back he was early in the year, you keep giving him the ball until it starts to impact his performance. Stevan Ridley was the game plan? **** sake. smh Still waiting to see if Ivory was nicked up that would have been the only logical reason not to play him more Only justification in my mind is that the Jets are angling to extend his deal and therefore did not want to risk a more serious injury for the future. But if they let him go as a free agent, and he signs a reasonable deal elsewhere, that's definitely a reason to be pissed. Had the Jets anticipated him walking, then RUN HIM INTO THE GROUND. This game was for the playoffs. He needed to be getting 12-15 touches in that game at bare minimum with Bilal unavailable.

Jetsfan80
Not feasible they were thinking contract in that game- something else was up unless they just blew it by not using him Just no other explanation in my mind. If he walks in free agency, that's his last game as a Jet, and we had no Bilal, with the season on the line. Use him. If my theory is incorrect, it was a blatantly terrible coaching decision. There's really no other way you can assess it than a failure. Bowles' quote did nothing to help, either: “It was game-plan related,” Bowles said. “We tried to give him a break a little bit, too. He wasn’t 100 percent, but he was good enough to play. We could have got him more plays in there, but the game didn’t dictate that way.” Did we stubbornly stick to a gameplan and not adjust for gameflow? And what were we saving Ivory for? No answers here that make sense UNLESS we intend for him to be a Jet in 2016.
UpstateJetsGuru
That's because Taylor has an NFL arm. Did he throw a pass more than ten yards? Unbelievable to give him the underneath stuff and not force him to throw downfield against the wind...also, did his receivers drop ANY passes? Sh*t game in so many ways. pointman
I want to see some youth, speed, and hunger. And I don't mean the type of hunger Stacy shows at the dinner table. Freemanm
Yes but other teams started to create game plans just to stop him at about the 1st quarter of the year. The Jets need a fitness runner in addition to Ivory, much like we had LT and Shonn Greene in 2010

This was on Chan. We were never so far behind we had to relegate Ivory to only a handful of carries. He ripped off a sixty yards when he got a few touches. It was stubbornness and a refusal to adapt that cost us that game and forced Fitz ti throw in less than optimal conditions.

How do you feel about KC game? Reid vs BB a great match-up. Reid coached an outstanding game against the Pats in the Super Bowl. I expect the same from him on Saturday. Maclin injury is huge but Smith scares me converting big 3rd down with his legs. The game can easily go either way.
long suffering jets fan
Seriously, how the HELL have the Jets NOT been challenged on why Ivory didn't have more carries? Especially after he rips off a 58 yarder. How does Fitz throw 3 putrid interceptions in one quarter, after being rock solid for most of the season. Something is seriously wrong here. Is football fixed?
