In the most surprising trade of the year so far,Chandler Jones is heading from New England to Arizona.

Jones has been traded from the Patriots to the Cardinals in exchange for guard Jonathan Cooper and a second-round draft pick, Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini of ESPN report.

The Cardinals believed heading into the offseason that their biggest need was a pass rusher, and now they have a very good one. This is the kind of trade that could put the Cardinals over the top and make them Super Bowl favorites.

But there are also risks: Jones is heading into the final year of his contract in 2016, and it’s possible that Jones will leave Arizona in free agency a year from now. The potential of Jones leaving in free agency is surely part of the Patriots’ calculation in making this trade.

Cooper was considered one of the best guard prospects ever when the Cardinals took him with the seventh overall pick with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, but he’s struggled with injuries and generally been a disappointment. The Patriots must still think he has a lot of potential — perhaps more potential in the future than Jones, even though on first blush it would appear that the Cardinals got the better player in this deal.

With all the drug nonsense that went on with Jones late in the year NE
probably knows there's more to come.  Because to me they didn't get full
value, ARZ #2 pick is low and Cooper has been a massive disappointment

Good deal for the Cards....and the rest of the AFC East

That second round pick in very deep defense line draft is nice piece to have especially if they didn't think they couldn't re-sign him in 2017.    ( who can blame them for the prices being thrown at defense lineman in Fa.

That sets the market trade price for Mo.

Mo is still more valuable a player than chandler... this is a guy who od'ed on fake weed before a playoff game, it should come as no surprise that belichick would look into moving him

Cooper never panned out. Probably not going to be an All star for the Pats either. Only good part about this for NE is that now they have 2 second round picks.

He'll be fine now that he will be allowed to hold at will.

Kinda funny what some teams have to resort to in order to get draft picks back when they've been docked them for cheating multiple times.

Not all teams have a former Jets' employee as commissioner.

You're wrong, all teams have a former Jets' employee (intern) as commissioner.

During that 1983 year it's amazing how he was able to force Brady and Belichick to systematically cheat over 25 years later.

This kind of reminds me of the Richard Seymour trade. It's all about Jone's upcoming free agency and NEP not wanting to pay him. They don't believe in paying or over paying. They get the best years out of a player and then let them walk unless they can get something for them.

Belichick is awful at drafting, historically.  Don't care.  Jones was a force.  Arizona won this trade.

And yet 15 of their starters were Patriots' draft picks.  Odd.

A player being a starter doesn't mean he's any good.  It just means there's an opening, a void created by having no one good, and SOMEONE has to start in that spot.

Tom Brady is what has driven that franchise the last 15 years.  Not Belichick's drafting.

He obviously didn't follow the Patriot Way...

...as in, he didn't share his drugs with Gronk and the rest.

12-4 means they are good.  They were 10th in points allowed and 9th in yards.  That is good no?
