A higher ceiling than 9 playoff years in 13, 9 top-10 Offenses, a Super Bowl win and a .618 lifetime win record?

So what do you think Kingsbery, who has never coached at all at the NFL or Elite Div. 1 NCAA level, is?

Kingsbury is quite possibly chock full of potential yet-to-be-discovered indefinable intangibles, much more so than McCarthy. We may never know what we're missing.

Just keep in mind that no SB winning HC has ever won a SB with another team.  Yeah, yeah, yeah...there's always a first time, law of averages, etc...yada yada yada.  The New York Jets aren't exactly trailblazers when it comes to setting the bar.  We're on a lot of highlight reels...but of the negative nature.

I never understand this logic.  While no HC has won a SB with multiple teams, only 31 HCs out of 263 coaches in the SB era have ever won a SB (only 11%).

So while the next SB winning coach to win one with a new team will be the first, finding a HC to win his first is extremely hard.

Wait, does us concluding the interview without him being signed mean that it’s most likely a no-go?

No everyone says Arians is the huge favorite for the Bucs job and they released the same tweet after their interview concluded.

Not necessarily. Depends on his travel plans

It could be negotiated in several hours or both sides could ligitimatley want to speak to other options

Only 31 coaches have won a super bowl, 13 of them had multiple. That leaves 18 other coaches that have won, and he's one of them

Outside of a few exceptions, most of those 18 had franchise Qbs, and only won 1 SB.

I don't know if the "only 1 SB win" argument is the one to keep bringing up

What’s more concerning is that NONE of them have won Super Bowls with two different teams.   Is McCarthy really the one to make history with the Jets?

They could also have an agreement in place, but don't want to announce it yet. No one really knows.

It's easy to get infatuated with the new young guy who has no NFL coaching record whatsoever. It lets our imaginations run wild. And maybe he is the next Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick wrapped into one. But the fact is he didn't even land a college head coaching job after leaving Texas Tech.

Very true. I had no idea that he (allegedly) had dinner with the jets last night either.

Yeah. Plus they still have other interviews scheduled. Might be a bad look to cancel them. Also a guy like Richard could potentially be a candidate to become our DC.

Meanwhile, our track record of hiring rookie head coaches who haven't won dick has been working out so well for us.

Mike McCarthy 'warmed' to idea of coaching Jets

Interest is definitely mutual between Jets and former Packers coach

The Jets have been very interested in former Packers coach Mike McCarthy since the day he was fired by the Green Bay Packers. The one thing they didn't know, though, was how interested he was in them.

Now it seems the interest is definitely mutual.

McCarthy has "warmed" to the idea of coaching the Jets, according to someone familiar with his thinking, and headed into his formal interview with team brass on Saturday with a serious interest in the job. For weeks, people who knew McCarthy thought he'd be more interested in the Arizona or Cleveland jobs, or would decide to sit out all of 2019 instead.

But apparently his thinking has changed. That doesn't mean he's guaranteed to take the Jets job, if offered. And an offer wouldn't likely come this weekend anyway, with the Jets' search expected to continue into next week.

It just means the 55-year-old McCarthy hasn't ruled it out, as some expected he might. Some around the NFL thought he might shy away from the New York spotlight after he at times appeared over-sensitive dealing with the media in small-market Green Bay. Others thought he'd consider the situations and the talent level in Arizona and Cleveland just better.

McCarthy will still interview for the Browns job next week after having to reschedule, but he reportedly turned down a request to interview with the Cardinals.

McCarthy still does appear to be the favorite in the Jets' search, based on his experience and stellar track record with the Packers, and his success with quarterback Aaron Rodgers which bodes well for how he might help develop Jets quarterback Sam Darnold. The Jets have already interviewed Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase, and are scheduled to interview Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard in Dallas on Sunday.

The Jets also requested permission to interview Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and have expressed an interest in interviewing former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell. They requested permission to interview USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, but Campbell said no and USC has reportedly blocked Kingsbury from interviewing with NFL teams.
