New season-end NFL injury data

Recommended Posts

With the league moving off its old-guard coaches and handing over the controls of every franchise to 36 year-old camp counselors, say goodbye to training camp, hip drop tackles, and the kick return and say hello to more roughing calls, “targeting” penalties, and shoddy, disorganized, ref-controlled play for the bulk of every season. Suspiciously, the league has chosen to do nothing about their rampant career-ending turf issues in this new push toward “player safety.”

its really amazing when considering the jets are literally sprinting in the other direction in terms of injuries

The NFL does this every year—the season-end report showing concussions are actually down! And injuries are down! And everyone loves the new rules! That totally work! And ignore the man behind the curtain! Etc etc etc.

Could mandate well-maintained grass fields. Would cut injuries dramatically. Nobody benefits legions of players on IR because of easily-preventable turf caused injuries. But some actuary must have figured it's cheaper to keep playing on cement with a plastic green carpet on top.

The games being run by the refs making huge 15 yard calls to impact outcomes is on a collision course with gambling. There's probably already been a Tim Donaghy out there for the NFL. And there will be more. "Oh, Patrick Mahomes needs 242.5 yard for the over on that prop? that's a completion! Next play!" If they caught him would they even tell us? Haven't heard anything about the ref who made a mess of the Lions/Cowboys regular season game. Total nonstory.

Further, the flurry of yellow flags makes it borderline unwatchable.

It’s going to get like pass interference where, every time a dude is tackled from behind, everyone has to wait to see if the ref considers it a horse collar or a hip-drop. I know the hip drop is brutal and it leads to grotesque injuries, but if they’re going to keep adding to the list of cards refs can pull to change the outcomes of games, they’re going to have to implement a better series of checks and balances in the form of a SkyJudge type thing where these calls get immediately reviewed by a central authority. It seemed like every week we heard Aikman and Buck dunking on Terry McAuley in the booth for the absurdity of the state of refereeing.

Before they outlaw the hip drop, how often does it happen ? It’s a defender trying to make a tackle , not really any bad intent . It isn’t really a dirty play just unlucky if the ball carrier gets hurt. Do they want defenders to not tackle if they’re fearing it could happen ? Horses collar or clothesline or clipping are inherently and intentionally dirty; this isn’t .

So we’ll have a whole new set of plays like a sack or borderline late hit on a QB where defender appears to make a good tackle and ….delay…..yellow flag. Thats WWE stuff.

I have a hard time understanding these numbers… injuries are down?

Yet teams are starting up to 60+ QBs because of injury on the most protected position in the game?

Don’t forget the occasional game where they don’t call any penalties, even if committed,  early so the announcers can say,” Refs are letting the play!” Until the end of the game and all of a sudden couple calls to sway the results, Goodell be like…

I think someone already posted this here or maybe not.

The NFL registered its business as Entertainment exactly the same way the WWE filed their business the exact same way.

Not as a sports entity so what do you think that tells you?

When they finally get caught fixing the outcomes there will be no repercussions.

Guardian caps reduce concussions 50%?  Why don't we wear them in the games?  Cause they don't look cool.  It's a ******* fashion show.

Also I can see PI yardage added to the receiver and QB’s stats.

Once the hip drop tackle goes, there will be a new number one cause of injuries so they'll have tog get rid of that.  And then the next thing, and the next thing, and the nex.....

Gene Upshaw and Steve Kelso (correction as per matt39 above)  wore them in games-Great Gazoo like for those old enough to have been "Flintstones" fans. Not sure anyone has since. Look goofy but not totally out of place.

Shush. Don’t jinx. Some of the JN members have a shot at making the roster.

Outstanding point!  I think football fans like when the refs "let them play" but why does it always seem like the refs suddenly start to get involved at the very end of those games?

Dammit Tom now you got me fired and up when I am supposed to be working

Training Camp: yeah let's me it more easy so we have can the first six weeks of the regular season be training camp.

Hip drop tackles: How bout guys gang tackle instead of one guy hold him and 4 other guys try to punch the ball out ? or One guy hold him and the other guy blast him to the ground.

I wonder if he said anything about all the starting QB's who missed significant time this year ? Did he say anything about that ? My guess is no. His thought though would be to protect them more. How bout these QB's and WR's learn how to protect themselves out there instead of depending on the refs to protect them ? Guys are running around out there with no fear now. That can't happen.

And I'm sure he said nothing about the turf injuries this year.

Flunk Goodell

I don't know if this thread highlights a positive for the NFL, a negative for the NFL, a negative for the Jets, a political statement, or a generation complaint.

Could be all of the above, some of the above or non of the above.

It’s Friday!!!
