What we learned this weekend

We learned that most GMs know nothing about picking QBs.  A couple do.

The element of chance has a large play.  I don't necessarily see Buffalo drafting Josh Allen if they were picking 1 or 3.  But that is just a guess.

I recall most people saying Allen couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.  Sometimes its just coaching and the guys around you that help you grow.  We didn't do that for Sam.  We neglected him, the bills built around allen and helped him along to become the guy you saw last night.  Get Zach and the O some help.  The Bengals had the first pick in the 2020 draft, less than 2 years later they are in the title game.  This can be done.

Offense > Defense, and there is no universe where "Zach didn't have weapons or time to throw" should be true in 2022.

If it is true, JD should be fired, flat out.

Would you be opposed to Ikem Ekwonu at 4 and Garrett Wilson at 10? Or if Ikem is gone, Wilson at 4 and either Ojabo or Travon Walker at 10?

Eh, the line is thinner than you might think. We need another big offseason and Wilson has to take the proverbial jump.

But we have a chance. We have plenty of assets. Look at what Zach Taylor and Kyle Shanahan did in their first two years. We have NO EXCUSE for not being at least competitive next season.

Bengals (Zach Taylor):

2019: 2-14

2020: 4-11-1

49ers (Kyle Shanahan):

2017: 6-10

2018: 4-12

The weaponz better be vastly improved next year. I doubt they'll be on a par with the best teams by that point, but if they have the pieces to develop it'll be a massive step forward. Right now we don't even have question marks at most positions ... we have nothing.

If we see Moore and Carter progressing and bring in similar promising picks at WR and TE we'll be on the right path.

We have four picks in the top 40, and more cap space than just about anyone.

No.  More.  Excuses.

Or they get lucky. And you have to keep picking QBs until you get lucky and hit on that guy.

yep.

By your logic, since drafting Namath, the Jets "brain trust" has had this guy's luck.   Maybe worse.

They should take Hess, Woody, JD, Mcc, Idzik, Steinberg and the rest of the confederacy of dunces and lock them in "Da baht-room".

It took Sam 3 years...

Jets roster is far worse - Allen would have been gone.

LOL.  Jets gave Sam a ton of rope and 3 full  years.   Zach is going to get 3 full years.   Allen had 20 TD's passing and 9 rushing in his second year.   He's miles better than Darnold and he would be our starter today if we drafted him.

Threads like these are silly.  We just fielded an all rookie team, including CS.  Of course we've got a long way to go

Also, Jets beat both teams who played in a game this weekend.

To cry about being a million miles away ignores a few good players could make a huge difference next season.

This is true.

Get a RG, get a legit TE and get a #1WR...and fill out the defense with a few more vets (all of which can be achieved this offseason) and catch some breaks with health...

Bottom line really comes down to Wilson's development.  That's how the gap closes....It closes when/if Wilson can start playing like a top QB.   When that happens the Jets will get better.

What I really like about what JD did here - is he understood what it was going to take - which is why you go after a guy like Wilson...His skill-set is there to play with those guys...

Wether or not he reaches that potential is still a big question mark - but he has the natural ability to be an elite QB.

The Jets have such a long way to go to even be competitive, it's crazy.  QB play, defense, playmakers. The gap is wide. Very wide.

The gap in QB play is the one that matters. Mahomes and Allen look like all time HOF greats in the beginning of their prime. Unless Wilson becomes great we don’t have a chance. The rest hardly matters if Wilson busts.

If Saleh was calling the defense for the Bucks and Bills at the end of those games, the Bills and Bucks would probably have won.

What I learned is that good defense is not allowed to exist these days.  The league makes the rules so that football games resemble a track and field contest for 55 minutes and for the last five minutes of the game, the NFL now resembles that last minute of an NBA game.

Just start these games at 40 to 40 with 5 minutes to go.  Same effect.
