The Baker Mayfield and His Mouth Thread

hmmm, and if the Jets defense had held their opponents to less points then the Jets scored in every game last year, Sam could've had an undefeated rookie season!!!

Damn that Kacy Rodgers and his defense!!!

nah he was injured and missed three games.  but the Jets would have been 13-3!!  SB champs!!

Going to be the most hyped game on here since December 2015

The Baker Mayfield thread is 36 pages long.

The Antonio Brown thread is 4.  And, the Antonio Brown story is actual, current NFL news.

Really what more news worthy of some pinhead arguing about helmet over another pinhead who seems to have a hair up his ass over the Giants for no apparent reason?

Both seem pretty amusing

Agreed, I'm sick and tired of hearing from loudmouth divas like [squints at cue cards] Calvin Johnson

The point is that most of these star WRs are nowhere near as important as they are made out to be.  Most of them happen to also be divas, but certainly not all of them.

Jet Nation's obsession with all thing Mayfield and all things Giants is bordering on clinical....

The Big Mouth QB is using his Big Mouth to have the back of his fellow Big Mouth WR by trashing his former team.

Is that a surprise?  Do we care?  Should we care?

And why should we care if he "shuts up"?  Let him talk, if it distracts him from play on the field, that only helps us.  So let him yap all he wants.

It's a football board, and there isn't all that much Jets stuff to talk about.

We've seen the Baker vs Sam movie once already. Advantage Baker.

The sequel is coming out week 2. Stay tuned. It should be fun.

Cue the Baker is 5 years older, has way more talent around him, Sam is humble and has a higher ceiling remarks from the peanut gallery.  :-({|=

What does last years game have to do with this this thread? Oh right nothing. You're STILL trolling. Stop it man, enjoy 2019.

It's amazing to me that a fanbase who loved/loves Joe Namath now hated Baker Mayfield, the 2019 version of Joe Namath in terms of bravado and a big mouth.

Proving you know nothing about Namath and what he was like in his day.

Cool! My OP was about how bizarre it is that the article dragged Beckham into this, so I'm not really sure what the point of any of this is, except to argue that David Patten is more "important" than Randy Moss.

@nico002 I'm as far from a homer as anyone can be. I've seen way too much water pass under the bridge, lol.

That said, I think the Jets are going to come out and destroy the Browns and Mayfield on national tv that night. I'll be shocked if they don't.

Baker Mayfield rips Giants' selection of Daniel Jones: 'Blows my mind'

It appears as if a little of Odell Beckham Jr. is rubbing off on Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, who recently took an unprovoked shot at the New York Giants and rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

While sitting down with GQ Magazine, Mayfield happened to catch a spot on SportsCenter about the Giants and Jones, which interrupted the questioning and led to some faulty criticism.

“I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones. It blows my mind,” Mayfield said. “Some people overthink it. That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win.”

Mayfield was speaking of Jones’ 17-19 record at Duke, which was hindered greatly by the lack of NFL quality talent around him. It by no means defines Jones as a player — which has been evident this summer — but clearly Mayfield needed to get his shots in.

The irony, of course, is that Mayfield is a “loser” at the NFL level with a 6-7 record, while his newest receiver has done nothing but lose since entering the NFL (save for 2016, which was an anomaly that ended with Beckham’s worst career game and a punched hole in the Lambeau Field wall).

But Mayfield is clearly feeling himself. Despite a recent history of failure, the Browns are riding high this year as the hype train is already off the tracks. However, why that makes Mayfield comfortable enough to stick his nose in another man’s business and rip a kid he doesn’t even know is unclear — sometimes arrogance just likes to hear itself.

The Giants and Browns don’t play in 2019, but they will in 2020. And that will most certainly be a game worth circling on your calendars.

He just cant seem to STFU.

Its one idiotic comment a week Baker.  He can play, just cant get enough of himself.  WTF has he won?

Actually when you bring it on yourself, well.

Find him amount so far.  If he trips up will get interesting.

Interesting that no one has an issue with all the AB stories and threads.

Damn. I never hear about the things Baker says until I log onto Jetnation.

Kinda ironic, given that us Baker fans talk about the football that's played on the field.

To all the Baker Fans out there, "False Alarm". I was thinking that he must have thrown 5 picks in a row at practice like Jimmy G. This is nothing but soap opera gossip. Should have known better than to think that this was about football.

really?  wow.  wish I had your confidence!  The Jets fan in me (you know - hope for the best, but expect the worst) does not like the first 6-7 games of our schedule....

I know isn't it weird?  when you don't have a bunch of a$$holes on your team, you have to go elsewhere to find something to talk about.  feels good....

This is actually a really good point. The Jets do seem to have a good group of guys on this team...

that's all I have been trying to talk about on here.  so sick and tired of getting "bad guys" who can play football....read an article about this guy driving double the speed limit with a kid in the back seat and a gun, and drugs.....this guy carries a loaded weapon into a club and is available - great let's get him!.....this guy runs a dog fight ring and becomes available - great!  let's get him too!!

I know we have the Herndon thing...and that bothers me, but hopefully he learns from his mistake.

We care because Mayfield and Darnold are going to be linked together for the rest of their careers unless one is great and the other sucks.

All I can say about this is Mayfield better light it up this year.

Interesting, because when I think Darnold, I think "Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Mayfield, Jackson", in a very similar way as I think of "Elway, Blackledge, Kelly, Eason, O'Brian, Marino" or "Manning, Rivers, Rothlisburger, Losman, Sorgi (just kidding)".  I think about the class, not an individual, when it comes to who they should be compared against in their future careers.

I'm not worried about if Mayfield lights it up this year.  I care if Darnold lights it up this year.  Sub-3,000 yard, sub-60%, sub-25 TD seasons won't cut it going forward.  I'm very interested in seeing the greatness people project for Darnold start to show itself in production and wins.  Only thing I care about Baker is seeing Darnold out-shoot him on the field.

I don't either, but I'm actually more worried about the Buffalo game in week ! then the Cleveland game.

I think they'll be more fired up for the Monday Night stage, against a team like the Browns, then for any game this year except maybe the prime time Pats matchup.

I love Mayfield, he's my favorite player in the league, but he's going to have a figurative "target on his back" with all the expectations for him and his team this year. I think he'll end up thriving, but the Jets game has "trap" written all over it.

Nobody really cares when guys who have All-Pros and/or Super Bowls on their resume mouth off.  TO was entertaining.  even Chad Johnson.  Because they had sustained periods of great play behind them.  The danger for Mayfield is that he hasn't got anything to point to yet.  So if he stumbles, even a little, the NFL world is going to pounce and rightly so.

So he's all in.  Either be great or be the butt of every joke.  This is who he has always been so I'll give him points for consistency on that.

Imo, the difference is that those guys seemed to be trying to be funny.  Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, but that isn’t the case with Mayfield.  He just comes off as a jerk, and it seems like thats what he wants.

Baker Mayfield is the guy everyone hated back in high school.  The "athlete" trying to be cool drinking Bush Lite because it aint about the taste to fit in because everyone hates his stupid ugly face.  He's the guy that drinks 3 beers, takes his shirt off and is running around the party flexed out of his mind talking about how he could take anyone at the party.  After he sips his 4th beer for the next 2 hours, he continues his shirtless parade and his jeans now sag below his ass.  Feeling himself because nobody stepped to his many challenges for the past 4 hours, he finally works up the liquid courage to actually pick a fight.  Then, when a real tough guy approaches him, Baker quickly to run behind his biggest and toughest friend for safety, jumping up and down screaming hold me back, hold me back, you dont want this!!! ..., knowing deep down inside he wants none of what this dude would do to him.

Baker Mayfield is the very definition of the word, bitch.

"I'll go with the Browns were playing their 3rd game in 12 days, they had won once in what? 31 games(?) prior, and had perhaps the only HC in the league who was as clueless as Bowles, the only guy who would've started Taylor over Mayfield, for $2000 Alex... oh wait, it's the Daily Double? I'll go with everything I've got"

...you're right about Sam not playing D that day, though. It's annoying that QBs can't do that. Maybe if Baker could've done it, the Browns could've won week 17 and made the playoffs. (That sounds kind of "Crazy" though, doesn't it?)

If Baker played D week 17 the Browns were going to win 3 more games and make the playoffs?  They had a losing record.  They were 2 full games behind the Steelers and the Steelers didn't make the playoffs.
