i get being worried about injury but i don't see how its a good idea to not give the starters any preseason play time at all. i feel like its gonna end in injuries in the first game or 2 because these guys arent gonna be in real football shape. you gotta be ready to get hit full speed

Playing 10-20 plays in a preseason game does not put players in football shape.

PSA.

With the exception of Becton and JJ , Sherwood and maybe a couple others, it’s logical to assume that the Panthers starters will get the better of the Jets backups. Please refrain from having a meltdown when the Jets backups get beat by the Panthers starters

1. Can anyone on the second-string units stand out against Carolina’s starters?

According to Panthers head coach Frank Reich, we will likely see most, if not all of Carolina’s starters in today’s game. Meanwhile, according to Jets head coach Robert Saleh, New York is planning to take a similar approach to last week’s Hall of Fame Game and will rest the majority of its starters once again.

thanks for the warning. but that wont stop some people from melting down the next week.

i dont remember what our other HCs did but this is something Saleh does every year. remember every year how our OL sucks for the 1st week and then gets gradually better. we cant afford that this year with a 40 yr old Rodgers and the Bills defense in week one. he needs to at least play the OL some and soon.

Yeah, well, it's kinda helpful for someone who sat out for 2 years.... He pulls himself out again today, dude will be on an express train out of town pretty soon, imo.

We can hope saleh has enough faith in the oline starters that they don’t need preseason game exposure. I get the whole thing about limiting exposure to injury but, unless this group is set, they most likely need some game day simulations.

Well if he cant play at least a half in an exhibition game, he cant expect to be a starter when the games count.   He d have no argument if they made someone else a starter in his contract year.   I’m sure he is aware of the repercussions of not playing, and not playing well.

Things id like to see:

Zach throwing a td

Tippy controlling the middle of the line

izzy running hard out there again

Ruckert getting some work w/ zach

On the defensive side:

The LB corp steps up

Clemons, McD, Huff & JJ put on a show.

We find the semblance of our starting Safeties not named Adams.

Where did you hear they expected 20-25 snaps a week ago?
Seems to me the way he’s being brought along and what they’ve been saying about his knee that they’re being really cautious.

He was supposed to eat 20-25 ginger snaps during the game.

Well it gets him in shape to play 20-30 plays the following week, then 30-40 the nest week etc.

These preseason snaps are huge for becton.

I wasn't referencing Becton. I was reacting to a post that claimed it was not a good idea to give all of the starters some preseason snaps because they would not in "football shape."  These starters are practicing for 90-120 minutes a day and that is what gets them in football shape, not a quarter of action (15 or so plays) in one preseason game.

Becton needs to play for a number of reasons.  Other starters do not.

Again, I was not talking about Becton. Reading is fundamental. I was responding to neckdemon, who said

I'd rather avoid injuries in meaningless preseason games than have the starters play a quarter (15 or so plays).  15 plays in one or two games does not get players in shape.
