"Mr. Irrelevant" and the 2022 Jet Draft Class

Recommended Posts

Imagine if Joe Douglas wasn't asleep at the wheel on day 3.

It would have taken maybe a future 6th to jump back into round 7 to take a shot on Purdy, and we are talking maybe the greatest single team draft class in NFL history.

Tannenbaum was right.

You draft a QB every single year, even if you already have one (which obviously the Jets didn't).

Yeah, one of the greatest drafts in NY Jets history, but Douglas was asleep at the wheel when picking in the 7th round.....OOPS!  He wasn't.

Apparently, there were 31 other GMS asleep at the wheel since 261 players were drafted in front of him.

While we're at this, why didn't we take Tom Brady in the 6th round?!  And Joe Montana in the 3rd round?!

Idiots!!!

Just sayin' that the Jets picking 3rd and 6th round QB's gives us zero chance of success.  We have never had a coaching staff capable of bringing along a QB and teaching them how to be a great NFL QB (The two Bill's we had around 1997 & 1998  being the exception).

When was the last time that the QB purgatory of the NFL produced a quality QB? Please remind me.

So you're saying stop trying?   That's not a good plan.  This franchise should always be trying to draft a future franchise QB.

What’s left out of the Purdy Cinderella story is that he came in only after the starter and backup qb went down.  It’s hard to see that even shanahan knew what he had.  But it does underscore drafting a qb each season even if only with a sixth or seventh rounder.  Many successful QBs came in and played specials or other positions before they finally got a chance.

Asleep at the wheel?  Every team passed on this guy multiple times for 3 days. lol

And, Purdy would have been a nice pick....if Kyle Shanahan came with him.

The team that drafted Purdy took Trey Lance with the #3 pick in the draft.

at least they kept trying. they also quickly enough realized lance was a scrub and moved on. we are going on year 3 with a qb jst as bad, but we never got a legit option behind him and we just keep playing him instead

Any fan who believes Purdy would have been given a shot here is delusional.  We have released more decent players that have retained.

We can't even maintain and or develop a 1st round QB.......    Geno had a good rookie year and then fell off the cliff. Mostly his fault but what did we do to develop him??? Rex and his merry go round of offensive coordinators???

geno had a good rookie year? lol. geno didn't have any good years until he was in the league (mostly not even playing) for 9 years.

Find is hilarious sometimes when some of you think if you take x player from another roster and plug them in here... that they're the same player. Some of you totally take coaching, system, surrounding players and such all out of it.

You would have to understand football to look at things this way. This site is for bitc*ing babies and don't try to bring logic into the discussion.....lol

A good player for one team, doesn't mean he'd be good on another. Brock Purdy is a system fit in a QB friendly offense. In an offense that seems to make every qb productive. Shannahan has been making limited qbs productive for years. Point being, shannahan can clearly develop qbs. This team, this jets team, hasn't done it since, who, chad pennington? Brock purdy wouldn't be be the same player here. Just like the jets would have never been able to develop guys like josh allen, had we of chosen him. This franchise has yet to prove that they can take a qb, coach them up, and get them to play to their max potential. Some players will be good anywhere, but they are few and far between. Most players need the right situation, the ideal situation, to succeed...and this place isn't it.

Ive been saying this for years too. Every damn year till you have two good ones.

Every year, because competent QBs are currency. You find your guy AND become the organization where other teams all want your backups, then exploit it.

We were 8-8..... haven't been better than that except 1 time with Fitz since 2012.  But yes, I get your point.

We were outscored by 97 points that year.  6th worst point differential in the league.  Unsurprisingly, regression came the following year with basically the same roster.
