Mario Williams to be cut

The Jets organization isn't that low-life, not gonna happen.

You should remember that that statement came out of your mouth...err, fingers...or whatever.

But, let's just say that we're serious for a moment; what kind of contract? A short, incentive-laced one that's based on playoff performance with a chance to extend? Then, do we extend? How much? How long for? What about Mo? Do we even think that Mario has enough time to even contribute for us in the playoffs?

If he's cut before the game, Bowles will sign him, send him out as captain, walk out onto the field himself at the coin toss, and cut Mario on the spot on live TV.

Just to send a message.

You left out one part. They will have Mario punch Geno in the jaw. Then cut him.

Have to lock down the playoff roster first.

We always talked about how Rex's Jets lacked that elite edge rusher.  Well it turns out Rex's D is not designed for edge rushers who can't play standing up.  He won't change his whole scheme and go 4-3 just because Mario Williams doesn't fit. So guys like Mario Williams will always be unhappy because they don't want to buy into a scheme that will affect their production negatively.

Now, the Adalius Thomas/Suggs type who can rush the edge as well as drop back and play standing up, THAT is the guy Rex needs to operate his scheme.

Rex saw what the Coples cut did for us - something he never would have considered when here - and is pulling out all stops to keep us out of the play-offs.

When Rex came to the Jets he had the luxury of bring 2 key defensive players with him who were able to help sell his vision. Not something he had in Buffalo. Getting rid of a player of this magnitude will help set a tone plus the guy does not fit his system. This is something that Parrsells did at every stop ala Hugh Dugless

I give Williams a lot of credit. It takes most people years to see the real Rex Ryan as the fraud that he is. It took Williams less than a season.

Williams is pulling a Hansworth type rebellion. Nether wanted to adjust to a new system. Rex was able to get Jets players to buy into his plan but had help here with two key additions from the Ravens who helped pave a path to a successful defense

Hmmm, he adjusted fine to Pettine's system.......

Jeannie....after one season, Parcells got rid of Hugh Douglass, who was rookie of the year 2 years prior. We never looked back. Some guys just don't fit certain systems/coaches. probably is good news for your team. Happy New Year!

And some coaches don't know how to make those players fit....like Rex for example. He is the only coach I know that can take a top defense and make it less effective and still keep his job.

Yeah, well nobody can game plan for Brady like Rex! All is forgiven. :cloud9:

Yes Jim Leonard. Bart Scott helped sell the system to the Lb Corp. and Leonard helped get the secondary sold before injury. These two had a great deal in the development of the defense in Rex's first year. Both were like coaches on the field in positioning players as Rex screamed the D.

Did Pettine ask him to adjust like Rex did? This might be on Rex do not know enough about current personnel to say. Sometimes it is easier to ask one player to adjust to the betterment of ten, than to ask ten to adjust to one.

And Schwartz's.  And whoever he had before.

And here's one for the excuse makers.  Williams led one of the leagues best lines and defenses under every other DC, HC  Until the one assclown who refuses to use Williams as he should and to his strengths.

Guess Rex is a genius on this one

I don't know much about Williams, but some players are more concerned with their stats then the teams success.  Rex used him wrong, no doubt, but you want to build a team of team first players.  Not sure Williams fits the build.

Conversely a coach should be diverse enough to fit the talent of a team he inherits. Bowles started this team in a 3-4. Through the season he's shifted more and more to a 4-3 with Mo and Sheldon at the ends. He evolved to do what's best for the team and personnel he inherited. Rex is a one trick pony. He would take the SB Tampa defense and try to convert it.

Drafting Peyton was never an option, he stayed in school.

He didn't decide to return until into March I think, and his own mother basically said it was because Parcells wouldn't commit to drafting him (before Peyton & Dad later claimed he was returning all along, but then people definitely returning don't keep the team and fans waiting for an announcement for >2 months). There were places he didn't want to end up (like Eli wi San Diego 7 years later, stemming from Archie wasting his career in NO). Parcells didn't want him because he'd said from day one he was only coaching here for 3 years so taking the first, the first two, or all 3 of those years, to break in a rookie QB - one who would be skipping his senior season no less - wasn't on his agenda of instant team turnaround. Parcells and Archie we're buddies; if he told them - right after coaching NE to the Super Bowl - he was 100% going to take Peyton #1 he wasn't returning to Tennessee to risk permanent injury playing for free, where he still couldn't know where he'd end up a year later.
