Sammy Watkins -- no tag

Sammy Watkins - WR - Rams

The Rams will not assign the franchise tag to WR Sammy Watkins, letting him become an unrestricted free agent.

That's it. Lets go get it. We gotta give our rook a fighting chance. I'd rather x10 have Sammy over Robinson personally. I know others will disagree. Neither are 100% fool proof, otherwise neither would be a FA.

I'm with you, Paradis.  I'd prefer Sammy to Robinson as well.

Dump Robbie Anderson and get this guy.

Keep them both.  Why so anxious to get rid of talent?

This is the NFL not a church choir...teams are going to have idiots on it - who cares, just win. A team like the Jets, so devoid of talent - and this is cheap talent....You don't just let a guy that go if you don't have to.

Cut him so we can see him scoring TD's on another team? It's just silly.

I think the Rams balked because Watkins was looking for $13M per.  Heard it about a month ago that he was looking for similar money had his 5th year option been picked up.  I like the prospect but for a guy that had 700 yards last year, it will be tough.  But I do believe with our cap space, let’s go get one of Watkins and Robinson.

I’m guessing he’s going try to go to a team with a good QB and a chance to win.

He's not good enough to make those types of demands. He will be lucky if 1 team comes close to his demands, let alone multiple teams where he would be able to sit back and choose like Kirk Cousins is doing.

I won't mind Watkins, but I much prefer Allen Robinson.

I think it's a really bad sign that the Rams gave up a 2nd round pick to get him, he was outplayed by Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods as the Rams offense exploded with him barely playing a role, and now they're letting him walk for nothing.

I'd kick the tires but you'd have to be crazy to give him a big contract with lots of guaranteed money.

I'd actually bet good money his only 2 priorites are, most money and most targets. He's a 24 year old head case, not an aging, mindful vet on his last breath.

I still want him btw.

I forgot how young he is.

I was just reading CBS and they mentioned the Panthers, Bears and 9ers. I could see him on the panthers.

Watkins was the 3rd best recieier on his team last year.  Rams traded for him and still are letting him walk.

His foot is a chronic problem and he will never be the receiver he was coming out.

Pass on him please.

Could just be that they have far higher priorities to sign & extend in the next 12 months. Have you seen the list of players with expiring contracts?

He's more expendable than those other players are. They even cut Austin even though they don't save much by doing so (they still owe him $5m of his $8m for this year).

...or he has a chronic foot problem and will never be the receiver he was coming out, lol.

Me too. That's where I'd go if I were him. It will just be highest bidder or if something happens with like, Dez in Dallas and a Jerry Jones type owner has a night out with him.

And what should we pay this WR who has never caught 70 passes and is injury prone?

http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16725/sammy-watkins

Yes we should. Because even if he's healthy 70% of the time - it's worth it.

Newsflash -- without those injuries, he never sees FA. You want 100% certainty, you roll the dice at the top of the draft.

Can't have it both ways... and the Jets have clearly established that drafting a WR early is not their M.O.

17 YEARS AGO... SANTANA MOSS IN ROUND 1

SO YEA, GIMME WATKINS AND HIS BUM FOOT.

No rumors of Norwell.  Nor Watkins.  Beyond Cousins, who we aren't getting, just some rumblings about trying to resign our own mediocre FAs and a no-name RB from the Giants.

So is Macc just sitting on his pile of salary cap Scrooge McDuck style?

animated-scrooge-mcduck-image-0054.gif

Or is he incapable of talking to more than one premium FA at a time?

oh... sorry.

I'm not dialed into WR numbers. I would assume he'll be amicable to a 3 year deal (rehab his value and hit the market at 27 again if he wants) for 12-15 million annually with guaranteed coming in around 40.
