It’s my fault

Recommended Posts

I've thought long and hard about whether to force any of my loser franchises on my kids. It would be easier if I had left NY (grow up outside Chicago? Root for the Bears!) but I'm still in NY and would have a hard time with a kid who liked the Giants. So should I ruin his/her sports life to spare my own annoyance? Time will tell.

When Fitzpatrick three that pick in the end zone to the Bills, preventing us from getting into the playoffs, I watched my nine year old son cry for 45 minutes. It killed me. I punched a whole in the wall.

They'll all be very happy over the next 10 years. Sams over his Mono, JD knows for sure our Oline sucks azz and will fix it in free agency & the upcoming draft, he'll get another CB, some pass rushers, and a #1 WR & we'll be rolling.

Kids becoming Jet fans now will be muttering, "whos Tom Brady?"

Didn’t you hear? Darnold is back.

We’re making playoffs. Hang tight.

I would be happy seeing the offense score 2 TD's in a game first

Just think about the head start he has. We suffered for years and now the newbies are being born into the Sam Darnold era.... it's like Pats fans whose kids came up with Tom Brady - they don't know about the previous decades of mediocrity, just W after W.

Welcome aboard kid!

JD knows what for sure? Honestly, I wonder if JD is even conscious these days. Not only is he quieter than a desert night, but I just can't rationalize going into a game with Luke Falk (not a legitimate NFL player) as starting QB and absolutely no back up at all. To put it another way, not signing a guy like Osweiler (or any journeyman legitimate NFL back up for that matter) and making Falk the back up. I know the results would not have changed much, but the lack of action is concerning. Hope I am wrong. Hope he drafts the hell out of the offense, signs a pass rusher and CB(s) and we are on our way, just doubting right now whether or not he is able to do this.

No one makes anyone a fan of any team.. Some kids want to please their Dad's so they root for his team.. I have a friend whose a life long Jet fan back to the Titan days and his kid is a Giant fan and his 2 boys are Cowboy and Packer fans.. Unless your dad threatened to kill you, a kid can root for any team they want it's called free will.

My son did grow up outside Chicago.  Moved here in 2000, when he was 8.  He could have been a Bears fan.  But I decided to take him to his first Jet game in 2001.  Jets were playing the Colts in Indy over Christmas weekend.  We drove down for the Sunday Night game.  Testaverde hits Anthony Becht for a TD in the final minute and we win 29-28, and he was hooked.

I blame Vinny and Becht.  Not myself.  Really, I am a very good dad.

Joe Douglas learned from the best in Ozzie, was an Olineman himself & signed Kalil. Now Kalil didn't work out but he gave it a shot because I believe he knew already this oline was a mess. I don't know what anybody can do in 2019 coming in after the draft & free agency, his hands are tied. Are we to think that the Patriots have ALL PROS at every position on the oline? of course not, they have a great Oline coach & Brady has played in the same system for 20 years. The Pats are RARELY behind the sticks constantly in 3rd & shorts and Brady knows where every outlet is faster than Falk can get through his 1st read. He knows how to change out of plays based on opponents defensive sets & that in turn makes everyone's job easier on the line.

JD knows what & who the problems are, unlike Macc, but can he fix it & how long will it take is the question.

Sadly, like domestic abuse and alcoholism, we often see this malady of Jets fandom passed down from generation to generation. I resent my father to this day for making me watch Joe Namath each Sunday and cursing me with this affliction for the next 50 years. I pray for your son and hope with the right amount of therapy and treatment he can eventually break this disturbing pattern.

I don’t know why I did it. I’ve been a Jet fan for over 30 years so I know what it’s all about. Still though, I made my son a Jet fan. I love him. I really do. I just can’t explain why I passed this misery on to him. Forgive me my boy.

well my dad made me a jets fan it started in the early 70s we went to almost every game since -he passed away a few months ago and as much as I hate the jets and their current regime for the terrible play going to games with my dad is something I hold close to my heart. Yes many times my father said sorry son I should have been a giant fan but even through the misery it was our thing

now that my dad has passed and I am able to see through the nostagia and see the team for what they are a terrible team with terrible ownership. I have not been this season and wont go ever again as without my dad it is just  bad football

My kids think football is stupid. They’re smart. I raised them well.

Had it been up to my parents, I’d’ve been a Giant fan. I’m not nearly as smart as my kids.

my son was immersed in the '98 season which made him a big fan. But the clincher had to be the last game of the 2001 season against Green Bay with thousands of people still in the parking lot listening to the pats-Dolphin game to see if our game mattered.  And when it did, the mad charge for the spirals was incredible.  It was like being in Madrid for the Running of the Bulls in Pamploma.  The exit was even better after the Jets mopped the floor with the Packers.....   hooked for life, at that point, I'd say.

By the time my grandson is the same age, both Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones will be in the primes of their careers.  One of them can make the difference.

I am sorry for your loss.  For me , it was my grandfather getting tickets to so many Shea games.  He was a men's shoe wholesaler and for a reason I don't know, Mets, Dodgers, Jets and even Kncks would go to him for shoes.  I met a whole bunch and went to lots of games because he could always get tickets.  Dodgers used to come to his 6ht ave and 35th street showroom every time they were in town like they were his good buddies.  Maury Wills, Drysdale.  Never met Koufax bu he always went.  My grandfther was a huge Bklyn Dodgers fan which eventually converted to Mets, and probably so he could go to games with me.  I remember Cubs coming in too... big time 3rd baseman, HOF caliber, cant remember his name.  Nice guy. ... can't recall. Fond memories.

Same here.  My older son (29) is stuck.  My younger son (22) isn't into football much and probably because of all the suffering he sees that his brother and I undergo.  My first grandson is on the way and due in a few weeks.  His father (my son-in-law) said "you didn't get him any Jets baby stuff did you?"

I may have to end their marriage.

He's here.  I am devising a slow, diabolical, 5-year plan to make him a Jets fan and without the Giants fans realizing. Joe Douglas better help me out. Any suggestions are welcome.

Of course she isn't.  How confusing your divided fandom must be for her.

Hey man I feel you. I was there for that game in person for my bachelor party. Only jets fan in my group of friends and they were pissed that instead of tiddies they got to freeze their ass off in a snowy stadium and watch me throw a tantrum after the game.

I was at the end zone watching that dime that fitzy threw that slipped through Enunwa hands and with it our playoff hopes and dreams. Rex being an a$$hole and just steamrolling our team  for four downs every possession

the worst part is I should have known that game and miserableness would foreshadow my Ultimately failed and fruitless marriage. 3 years later here I am typing in my one room apartment in Nova just finishing up a nasty divorce process where things got pretty ugly. I’ll probably best off to some porn after this or try to find another video online where they try to suck off Darnold. I’ve gained 60 lbs since that day in Buffalo and that coupled with my inability to perform was the last straw for my wife. I’m sure making her sit through games every Sunday and spending 400 dollars on the jets every year on Sunday ticket didn’t help.

jokes on her though she doesn’t know I got the signed #12 photograph poster that I kept from her getting her grubby little hands on. Onwards and upwards and remember life could be a lot worse.

This is perhaps the most fascinating and best post Ive ever read on any Jets message board.  Definitly a nominee for POY.  @Maxman  Do we have a place for nominees for an annual P.O.Y. showdown?
