I am as pessimistic as they come but too early for this imho. Gase is a bottom-barrel HC and the line is ridiculously-bad.

All of this doesn’t mean Darnold isn’t also bad, but we are chips in on him. That said I definitely want a new veteran QB (like Bridgewater or Alex Smith) who is competent and can step in if needed next season and a mid-round rookie flier.

Well maybe Gase gets fired the Jets will have the #1 pick overall and they pull a Kyler Murray move in taking Tua and trade Darnold for a second round pick then use the remaining picks to rebuild the OL. I do blame Gase and the previous staff for ruining him.

He’s 22, playing under the worst coach in the NFL, playing in the least creative offense in the league, and playing behind the worst offensive line in the league. Am I as confident as I was in Darnold before? Probably not. But I really do still believe in him.

Perhaps it's because he is young. But I would have thought he would have realized this coach is ass and he has no legitimate sh*t to compete this year and started to heave the ball out of bounds to preserve his health.

Until we have a coach who’s good enough to make Darnold elite it will always be the coaches fault, and if that coach should arrive Darnold will then be elite, so obviously not a bust.

But seriously, if you watch this guy and see someone who’s anything but a good athlete with no understanding of the mechanics and mental aspect of the position, you’re deluding yourself.

Darnold hasn't given the Jets reason to stop chasing the franchise quarterback. Full stop. That's all there is. The half of this fanbase that wants to smell his nuts and the half that wants to cut them off are equally to blame for the fact that the team is still gonna be sh*t this time next year.

He’s been bad the last few weeks, but he has also had stretches where he has been excellent, so we know the talent is there. He is 22 years old and playing behind a historically bad offensive line. Finally, Joe Douglas (who definitely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon) also said he thinks Darnold is going to be a franchise QB. So aside from the fact that I don’t think Darnold is a bust he isn’t going anywhere anyway

Jets want to trade Darnold,  call the Raiders .  Gruden will be gladly willing to trade one of his first for Darnold.     The Raiders have the time ( can be backup to Carr) and the offense line To rehabilitate Sam Darnold.

You have a chance to rebuild a franchise qb confidence , and that opens up a chance to recoup so much more than they gave up to acquire him.   Or if  he never develops , than the Raiders lost that first , and the Jets have another  piece to rebuild their offense.

i never do the pretend gm thing. i tned to go with what my eyes tell me. i do have a bad vibe about tua. i really had no clue about sam one way or the other pre-draft. i liked watson. i didnt think baker was much. i didnt know who mahomes was.

i liked lamar jackson too. dont know burrow.

he's playing terribly right now.  doesn't mean he's a major bust.  he's played 18 games in his entire career and is 22.

Sam has been bad but I believe in him. This OL is epically bad. I am finally on board the fire Gase train, you can't be given more talent with a weaker SoS and perform worse than Bowles. No excuses, cut bait.

Hold onto Sam, build a wall in front of him to give us a shot. Worst case scenario is the OL is built for the next young QB.

I’m on the fence. While the offensive line has been horrible, Darnold still displays huge flaws. 
 

I think he will get better but his ceiling is alot lower than what I originally believed.

Derek Carr had a horrific 2019 & has turned it completely around with the same coach at the helm. QBs need a system. Right now we can't even run on the freaking Dolphins. Did you guys watch the Ravens physicality last night up front? They punched the Patriots right in the mouth! 

And that's how the Jets won in Gillette in 2010. This Jets engine (Oline) has seized up, its horrible, it's been neglected for 9 years! NINE YEARS! Think about how long that is, your 10 year old is in college now. 

And the worst thing about the neglect of our offense for 9 years is that our defense which 90% of our assets have been allocated to also STINKS! All those 1st round defensive picks & not one game changer.

He looks a bill shell-shocked right now but calling him a bust is beyond absurd.

He's 22, just played his 18th games, behind, what many are calling, the worst offensive line they've ever seen - with a HC that really doesn't seem to grasp it.

Under the circumstances, as far as I'm concerned, he's playing well.

I have now concluded that Gase is inept and needs to go.  He is not developing or protecting Darnold.  I don’t think Darnold respects what he has to say, and he is developing bad habits out of fear of getting injured. 

I think the best path for the Jets is to get Darnold a better coach and build an OL, Wr and defense to support him, in that order   This is not a fool proof plan, but if it does not work the Jets basically do a Vikings and sign a Cousins to play with a good team and trade Darnold and let him walk   We have seen enough good with Darnold not to give up on him, but he needs a new coach.

If a Burrow is sitting there, JD likes him better and the Jets can recover lots of picks from trading Darnold, I would not scream if that happened.  A Rosen like trade would not be enough   Rosen never was as good as Darnold was when he was not bad

Of course I see what you're seeing too, but it's early in his career man. Like really early. One thing I can say is that as soon as I watched that One Jets drive episode of Gase breaking down Darnold's "amazing" ability to make things happen with his body out of position I got worried for Sam. Gase seemed more like a fanboy than someone who was going to get in there and correct Sam's natural tendencies to throw off if his back foot. 

I think the best course is to build a massive and dominant OL mixed with stud WR's that can fight for the ball. (robbie is a puss) around Sam for the next two years. If it turns out he blows consistently then we have the infrastructure in place for the next guy. That's how it should be done. DOn't throw in the towel before he has what needs. The next guy will suck too with his OL acting like  sieve.

Anyone making strong proclamations one way or the other regarding Sam is ridiculous IMO. Give the kid everything Sanchez had in those two playoff runs and let's see what he looks like. Then you can make an honest assessment. Keep in mind this offense could barely muster 100 yards without him.
