Agreed, and if you made me guess, I still think this team will end up avoiding 0-16 somehow.

However, this team is really, really, really bad. This is not a typical 0-6 team.

we'll see...     nuthn to do but eat popcorn and see what happens next

The Jets will need Joe Namath to go down and talk to the kid after the Bowl game. He can let him know the ins and outs of NY, and if you are a star in NY, you make your way for the rest of your life.

Yep, the Jets need to treat this like a full-bore college recruitment push. And I ain't talking about cupcakes on his birthday.

According to industry professionals, the general rule is that a top-10 pick will qualify for $10 million of permanent total disability with a $5 million loss-of-value rider. The 10 to 20 picks would be looking at $5 to $7.5 million of PTD and $2 to $3 million in loss of value. Picks in the 20 to 30 pick range would be around $5 million total disability.....

"It's very important to remember that the threshold is 40 percent below their projected earnings," Chenowith said. "If we have a consensus that you're the No. 1 quarterback in the country and the No. 1 quarterback is projected at $10 million over four years, your threshold will be $6 million over four years, which is 40 percent below."

In all seriousness, this narrative pushed by ESbostonPN and outside media that despise New York and "East Coast bias" is trash. For many reasons.

First off, From 1997 - 2011 the Jets were a respected and successful organization. 3 AFC Championship game appearances and multiple Playoff Years. Prior to that,  contrary to our own personal memories, the Jets of the 1980s were pretty damned good. 2 AFC Championship Game appearances and again, multiple playoff years. Sure, it was painful for US as Jets fans, but those teams were no joke, especially the Defense, and when O'Brien,  Toon, Walker, Shuler, and McNeil were on, that Offense was badass. Everyone wants to look at 2 years of Kotite and forget an entire Decade plus.

Also, here's the list of First round QB'S the Jets have selected:

Joe Namath   HOF'er and SB 3 Winner.

John Huart,  drafted in the same draft as Namath as insurance.  Barely played.

Richard Todd, 2 Playoff years out of 5 Seasons as Jets starting QB, including 1981 AFC Championship Game.

Ken O'Brien,  forever compared to Marino. Had some really good years, 3 Playoff Seasons, and if you want to be surprised, look him up on Wikipedia and see how many NFL records he once held....

Chad Pennington good QB who was destroyed by injuries, multiple Playoff years.

Mark Sanchez, 2 AFC Championship Game appearances,  but couldn't hold up to the stress and responsibility of shouldering the offense. The Jets did him no favors in 2011-12, but he wasn't "ruined" by the Jets, he was carried by a great line and running game for as long as they could, and when they couldn't baby him anymore, he folded like a beach chair.

Sam Darnold. Yeah, we blew that one.

That's it. Those are ALL of the Jets First round QBs ever taken. **** the Bobby Bristles and the Geno Smiths, those guys were marginal prospects at best anyway.

The whole narrative is trash. They did the same sh*t last year for the Bungles, a MUCH WORSE franchise than the Jets. They are the only NFL team without an indoor practice facility and field. LOL.

Detroit is a garbage franchise. The Browns are trash.

San Diego, er, Los Angeles Chargers are crap, and literally have no fanbase left. Jacksonville is Football Hell.

The Washington "team whos name shall not be spoken"? LOL. OK.

This sh*t is just noise. Stupid, ignorant noise.

https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/us/guides/what-is-athlete-lossofvalue-insurance-161625.aspx

Which carriers write loss-of-value insurance?

Most loss-of-value insurance is written through Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading specialty market. One of the more well-known brands to offer the coverage is International Specialty Insurance, Inc, a coverholder at Lloyd’s. International Specialty Insurance describes the coverage as: “Loss of Value Insurance is a personal accident policy designed to protect a player’s current market value while they play out their final season under their current contract as they head towards free agency. The insurance agrees to protect 50% of a player’s expected next contract against the perils of injury, illness, or death.”

Marqise Lee sues Lloyd’s of London

In 2015, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee sued Lloyd’s of London after the market refused to pay a loss-of-value insurance claim worth millions. In 2013, Lee paid a premium of $94,600 to Lloyd’s to cover him should he fall in the draft to a contract worth less than $9.6 million. Less than two weeks later, he injured his left knee and never fully regained his position as the nation’s top receiver.

In the 2014 NFL draft, Lee was the overall 39th pick by the Jaguars, who offered him a four-year deal worth $5.17 million, about $4.5 million short of the policy’s guarantee. Lloyd’s denied Lee’s claim arguing that he concealed, misrepresented or omitted pertinent medical information that would have caused the policy to never take effect. Lloyd’s refunded his premium, plus interest, and asked the court to rule the policy never applied.

Gotta read that fine print. Get a good lawyer before you dance with Lloyd's.

The Jets have failed to develop the careers of many highly-drafted quarterbacks, most notably and recently Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith and Christian Hackenberg

sh*t reasoning. Like, literally the worst.

If Trevor Lawrence doesn't think he's automatically better than Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, and the Hacken, then he should just quit football now.

It's kind of insulting to think that those 3 QBs could've ever been good had they been drafted by any other team. The first two had their chances post-Jets and failed spectacularly. The third wasn't even good enough for the AFL, or whatever that little defunct Podunk league was called.

This is the danger of leaving Gase employed all year, it permeates the sense that the ship is rudderless and the organization is a complete disaster. Even though that's partially true, we have a highly respected GM around league circles for the first time in forever. They need to put him at the forefront and separate the image of Gase/Maccagnan ASAP

Here’s my two cents, if you’re the #1 overall pick & an extremely rare cant miss QB prospect.. you’re going to the worst team in the NFL.

Yes, good one. I suppose(I have seen Browns multiple times, Lions, Fins, Washington, Bucs, etc.) how many freekin crap teams as bad as we are now get the number 1 overall QB and that was OK. Well now it's our friggin turn. Lawrence turns down 25+ Million guaranteed just to go to a team just as bad as we are the bext year, assuming we don't get the pick again then he is an fool to listen to these outside idiots who wouldn't pass on 25K let alone 25M. But, lets not get ahead of ourselves, we have 10 teams with 1 win and all that has to happen is Darnold plays a good game against any team especially the Fins now with Tua, Chargers, Browns, etc. and we could end not getting the first pick. And Darnold will be motivated since he doesn't want to likely lose his job and/or go 0-16.

"Consensus"? Unnamed "Industry Professionals"? There is no consensus. There is no regulation of limits other than the limit the school can buy for the student-athlete. The player and parents can buy as much as someone is willing to sell them. And the policies do not allow anyone to speak about their terms or claims made. The insurance companies and agents are fighting for the business because the premiums are big easy money. The 40% percent of expected earnings is recommended because they are attempting to help the buyer figure out how much they might want to buy and 40% is the this is the "what the player might earn after Tax and Expenses" figure. So, that is what they "recommend".

Regardless, we both agree Lawrence is protected in case of injury.

Here is where I'll agree with you. If money is important to Lawrence, he will not stay in school and even if he demands the Jets trade him, if they don't he'll sign with the Jets.

I think we disagree on what make this kid tick. It is not the money. He wants to be great and to win. It is why he went to Clemson. He went where he could win a National Championship. And he went to a school that he knew would allow him to pass the ball a lot. He saw what they let Watson do at QB. It wasn't like Alabama which (at the time) was RB heavy in its play selection. He didn't pick Georgia (even though he went to High School there). There is no non-jet fan on this earth who thinks anything other than the Jets are the worst place for any QB to go. So, IMO, he will use whatever leverage he can to avoid going to the NYJ. I believe he views his chances at a long term legacy as better elsewhere. Heck, Deion Sanders outright told him so. It's clearly worth a shot. And who knows, if he simply says he will not play for the Jets, that may be enough to convince the dopey Johnson boys to trade him.  I'm not sure if you've noticed but the Johnson boys are not so steely eyed as you, my friend. Don't imagine what "you" would do. Imagine what the Johnsons would do.

And on the positive side, unlike the Colts and Luck, we have numerous picks in the bank and big bucks to spend in FA. 2-3 years and we could be slamming on offense.

You and @Scott Dierking are onto something. Joe might be our only hope here.

JoeWillie has always encouraged the QB’s the Jets draft. He’s a great ambassador to the franchise. But has there ever been anyone close to his status? No! Not Luck, not Elway, not Eli, not Aikman, not Plunkett, not any QB since.....except now. JoeWillie must take on this task and befriend Trevor and convince him to come to NY.

I will never forget when Joe said something critical of Geno--not even negative mind you--and this place erupted against him.

Sometimes being right has to be its own reward.
