Just for fun: If you HAD to hire one of these former Jets HC's again as HC, who would you take?

  1. 1. You are forced to hire a former Jets HC to come back and coach the Jets. Who do you want?

    • Adam Gase

    • Rex Ryan

    • Eric Mangini

    • Herm Edwards

Mangini took over as HC with literally no experience. One year as DC. 10 as a position coach. The fact that he did as well as he did with a team barren in talent in 2006 speaks volumes. He was not given time. He had the rug pulled under him when Favre was forced down his throat

He was like a rookie QB. There were going to be growing pains. Unfortunately the Johnsons had no patience.

That said a Mangini/ Ryan hybrid would be the best coach for us

Herm made the playoffs with Testaverde and won in the playoffs with Pennington.  Missed them with Pennington/Testaverde and Bollinger

Mangini made the playoffs with Pennington, missed the playoffs with Favre and Pennington/Clemens.

Rex won in the playoffs with Sanchez.  Missed the playoffs with Sanchez and Geno.

Bowles missed the playoffs with Fitzpatrick, McCown and Darnold.

Gase missed the playoffs with Darnold.

I do not understand the love for that little weasel.

I voted Rex because 1. JD wouldn't let him anywhere near the draft and 2. JD would assemble a team Rex could work with.

None the less I want a none of the above option because....well just because I've already had enough pain for one decade.

How is Rex Ryan beating Herm Edwards by such a huge margin (31-5) right now?

Herm Edwards has an actual Head Coaching job at the moment.  Rex Ryan couldn't even land an interview at the U of Miami after expressing interest in that job.

Says a guy who voted Mangini, who can’t get a job in the league as a quality assistant.

Extenuating circumstances. Guy got blacklisted for doing the right thing(exposing Belichick for Spygate). He wasn't a good HC but he had an eye for talent and could be an asset for an organization.

His eye for talent is mythology. He sucked as a coach, and spygate was 100 years ago. No one is interested in his services in any capacity. That’s his reality.

How is mangini on the top here?  He wasnt a good HC at all. He rose Farve one year, that I remember, even while he was hurt to the point he couldn't compete anymore.

Hell Farve got here and was like all these plays are trash im running my own sh*t.

Kinda wild that Rex can’t even get an interview anymore. What an absolute snake he mist have been behind the scenes to get himself blackballed to this degree.

When’s the last time Mangini interviewed for anything?

Mangini is blacklisted for putting a giant asterisk on Belichick’s career. What’s Rex’s excuse?

I'm not a GM but I would imagine that going viral for foot porn, Mark Sanchez tattoos, and flicking Floridians off while not making the playoffs for six straight seasons had something to do with it.

Oh yeah, this may be my favorite little gem of the victimized Mangini narrative, where the very same HOF QB that he proceeded to name his own son after was actually "forced down his throat".

You'd think that every argument made in his favor being unsubstantiated JN folklore should be enough to show the ridiculousness of these claims.

C'mon T0m.  It's not like he doesn't have a job where his opinion and personality are valued and a new employer trusts him enough to be put on national television every week.  But yeah.... he's an untrustworthy snake!

Rex's problem is that he couldn't spell the word offense....and he never wanted to learn how.  He's a little too much of a Ready, Fire, Aim kinda guy and my guess is that he doesn't yet want to accept that he's mostly coordinator material these days and not the type of "executive" that teams want to put in charge as a HC of a team that has two other phases to play besides defense.

One day, hopefully, Rex swallows some pride (debatable) and gets back on a sideline.  But just like Gase (Dolphins, Jets) and Mangini (Jets, Browns) I don't think Rex (Jets, Bills) will get a third shot at a HC gig either ever or not until he does some significant time back down at the coordinator or assistant level.

I'm not even defending Rex, that's a problem with your testosterone.

But while we're on the subject, Rex actually succeeded as a coach on the NFL level. He was a great defensive mind, and getting the Jets to back-to-back AFCCGs with Mark Sanchez at QB is about as impressive as coaching performances go.

Your make-believe asterisk aside, why couldn't he get a job with Jim Harbaugh -the only person to give him a look in the pros- in college, then?

Oh, because he sucks! That's right!

I would only note that my post didn’t mention Mangini, only bewilderment that nobody—not one team—has even tried to interview Rex Ryan since his termination in Buffalo. DESPITE the accolades you listed

The answer is that he knifed all three GMs he worked for, getting all of them fired within a four year span.
