The New New York Jets

The more I ponder the situation the more I am convinced that Kyle Wilson will be our starting QB come September.  Darnold (and #107) will be traded to Indy for #21 and away we go.

Free Agency

I have a feeling that many Jets fans will be disappointed in our free agent signings.  Not because Douglas will be unwilling to sign top tier guys but I just don’t think many of our hopefuls will actually become free agents.  I think Douglas will manage to sign Corey Linsley to play center and move McGovern to RG.  I think the top WR won’t shake loose or perhaps Allen Robinson get $22mm per from someone else.  I think a guy like Kendrick Bourne will be signed.  If we/Douglas luck out, Thuney will be the big name signing.  After that Douglas and Saleh will find a tier 2 DE/Edge.  There aren’t many options at corner so I expect a reclamation project like Garson Conley.

The Draft

  • #2 - ZACH Wilson, QB
  • #21 - Azeez Ajulari, LB
  • #23 - Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB
  • #34 - Jalen Mayfield, RT
  • #66 - Michael Carter, RB
  • #86 - D’Wayne Eskridge

Mayfield may be able to replace Fant to save cap $$.  Carter could thrive in this offense.  Ajulari will also thrive in Saleh’s defense.  Eskridge will likely come along slowly but could contribute.

It doesn’t fill all our holes but it’s light year’s better than 2020.

Assuming you meant Zach...

Taking a QB at 2 - and then following that up with 2 defensive players is a fireable offense.  That would honestly be one of the worst things JD could possibly do.

There is literally no talent on offense and drafting another QB at 2 and then not supporting him would simply be repeating the mistakes from three years ago.  JD and Saleh will be out of a job in three years..

we'll have a new coach and GM (who will undoubtably be a genius) and once again the people on this board will be clamoring for us to take a QB with our top 5 picks and then draft CB's and Edges.

I know that’s how you feel Fidelio and I respect your opinion.  I do think that adding Thuney, Linsley and Mayfield on the OL and Bourne, Carter and Eskridge as additional weapons will make this offense presentable.

Also, I think Saleh will insist on getting some guys on defense.  Douglas did not hire Saleh to go into battle with the crap defense we currently have.  The defense was also dreadful last year and going into the season with Bryce Hall and Bless would be a big mistake.

I do get it but I just feel so strongly that developing a QB needs to be the top priority.  Once you have that you will be competitive for 15 years.  Suck it up for two years - build around the new QB - let him learn, give him every opportunity succeed and become the type of guy that can carry a team.

Once you have that then you can worry about defense.  Your QB should be able to do more with less then.

So, a few things. In general I agree. JD won't be bringing in a bunch of top names. I totally agree that Saleh will go after very specific mid level FAs that he is familiar with. Blair, Sherman, Dee Ford are all possibilities. I wouldn't be surprised if Blair and Sherman were both Jets next year and were here 100% because of Saleh. We'll probably see the same thing on offense but I DO think the Jets will make a push for Thuney. It just makes too much sense not to. They desperately need a dominant presence inside. He is consistent, fits the scheme (or really, he's scheme versatile) and he's still very much in his prime.

As far as the draft who knows what we will get for Sam but I 100% agree that the Jets are taking a QB at #2 and trading Sam.

Everyone has their own favorite prospects. These are not mine. But whatever. I will say though that the Jets should def. take a WR before they take a RB and that the Jets shouldn't be looking for a OT to replace Fant for 'cap savings'.  If there is an OT you really like, take him. But Fant was solid and the Jets have plenty of cap space. There is no reason to cut him just because he is a bit overpriced. If anything, I would be looking at an OT who is versatile enough to play G like Vera-Tucker or Radunz. Or just take W.Davis-OG and call it a day. I'd be very much satisfied if our O-line in 2021 was Becton, Thuney, McGovern, W.Davis, Fant.

Jesus Dude. Just wear this to Tom's house and kill him, don't kill him or wear him as a skin suit. Honestly it's you're call, but I just got off work after a long day and you ruined my dinner.
