that's such a Walmart take - pulling out all the typical tropes.

Add "what a reasonably constructed counter position looks like" to the things we disagree about.

I'll give you the last word since we all know you can't resist. Cheers.

we can smell our own, pal.

Keeping Crowder at $11 million means he's going to play. Which also means he's going to cut into Moore's playing time and that is not a good idea. There is no way you can keep an $11 million backup slot WR, especially if somebody is willing to give up an asset to obtain him.

I have to admit, until this week I was dead set against cutting Crowder (for a variety of reasons). For the most part I still am. But.....

The emergence of Berrios and the rapport he seems to be building with Wilson may make Crowder expendable.

Some say a + in Berrios' favor is that he was our punt returner last year but don't forget that Crowder also did that earlier in his career @ Wash. If we were to keep Crowder, then I'd like to see him resume those duties so we don't have to waste a spot on a "return specialist". I think we're at the point with our WRs where we have enough depth (Moore) to use Crowder as a punt returner. Let's get a little more "bang for the buck" with the $11 million (or less) that he's going to get.

You're wrong

I guess it's possible but if you hold that view in the face of all the evidence, I hope you are on my jury if I'm ever on trial for murder and the prosecutor has a signed confession, my DNA, video of me doing it. and a bus full of nuns as eye witnesses.

Are you saying keeping Crowder at 8 million means more playing time for Moore? Or just that we can't keep Moore at all. I don't think the Jets will play Crowder more or less if he gets 8 or 11 million a year. They will always play the best players.

Regardless, Moore isn't just a slot WR. Many evaluators thought, before the draft, that he was versatile enough to play on the outside. Lafleur seems pretty smart and willing to adjust his offense based on the talent and not pigeonhole "little guy" goes in slot. I would assume he is playing mostly from the slot during OTA's but I would bet his role expands as we get closer to week 1.

I don't think the Jets are trying to get Crowder to take less money. Alot of prior are aiming that's what they're doing. I think they're trying to trade him and don't want him at OTA's to avoid injury. If he's getting traded I think it'll be before mini camp next week.

I expect Cole and Moore to move around the formation a lot in order to keep the defense on their toes. Crowder doesn't offer that versatility.

I mean, have the Jets even offered him a contract yet?

I have no idea but I hope so. Depending on the news that comes out, this might be the first downvote I give Joe Douglas. He has to get this done.

With Becton/AVT on the left and Moses on the right, our running game will be a problem for other teams. It’ll make life easier for Wilson.

I don't think we have any idea what is going on.  The guy had a couple of visits by the start of the month and supposedly more on the docket.  Haven't heard boo about contract offers, or other visits since.  Kind of tough to complain about not getting it done when we have no idea what the guy is looking for or what kind of shape he is in.

In all signings 2 people must agree.  For what ever reason perhaps  Moses doesn't want to play in NYC.

Would not be the first time players have turned down more money because the didn't want to play here.

Or Joe Douglas pisses  himself every time he tries to sign vet lineman after the last couple. Both possible.

Moses is really taking his time with this process. Just sign the contract.

He's a good player that plays a premium position. With injuries likely to occur during camp, his value can only go up. Plus even if he knows where he wants to go, by not signing a deal early he avoids OTAs and could probably miss some training camp and still be fine to go Week 1.

How has he "pissed" himself?  The only OL, the Jets were interested in, or who was worth signing, was Thuney.  KC signed him for $16,000,000.  Major overpay.  The Jets would have had to pay him $20,000,000.  That would have been insane for a guard.

Last year they signed Fant, worked out OK.  Few patches inside who didn't work so well, but were mostly cheap 1 year deals.

Word I read was Zeitler didn't want to play for the Jets, and Jets didn't offer him.

Can't make a guy play where he doesn't want to.

well said... douglas cant sign folks who basically already have deals in place before free agency hits..

If Jets start winning and saleh gains players coach rep, then douglas will get most any player he desires

Perhaps, but he did come in for a visit. There are other reasons why one would do that, but after getting released I think he just wants another starting job.

Granted it's not like he's from the northeast (Washington was probably his dream team: as close as possible to his HS and college; each ~100 miles away). Florham Park's a lot closer to his hometown than Lake Forest, IL. Income taxes are lower there, which isn't zero in his bracket; never know, but I can't see losing out on a starting tackle over that amount if the Jets are serious.

If he doesn't offer him a contract, perhaps yes.  If he does offer him a contract and Moses still signs with the Bears, what can ya do.  This isn't Madden.  A lot of factors come into play when a guy is moving to a brand new city for work.

Jets player takes more money to play elsewhere: “disloyal mercenary!”

FA takes less money to play somewhere other than here: “JD blew it.”

Seems like the poster is a bit anxious to diss Joe. Plus, isn’t Moses like 30? Probably wants a win now situation.

I am all for adding Moses.  I think he wants a starting job and will wait to sign until we near training camp hoping he sees a clear path for one.  I have no doubt that there is plenty of interest around the NFL as a backup tackle.  I think the Jets are offering backup tackle money with incentives should he end up in the starting lineup.  It is probably his best offer but he knows it means backup duty unless there is injury.  Fant is well entrenched as the starter imo.

Honestly, i know this guy os good but i am not so sure adding a new pice like this on top of AVT will translate into short term success. We have a group that looked much better at the end of the year last season and I think we might do well in continuing  to develop them.

I don't think it will translate into short term success. By the time say 10 games has gone I think this OL would be a well oiled machine, but that first 10 games could be varying degrees of problems. In the long term it'll still be a great signing.

Just inquiring about some information.... WHEN exactly does Moses intend to sign? Is there a drop dead date for when we'll know his intentions? Because it's important for the Jets, if he does in fact intend to sign with the Jets, to get him in ASAP. The fact is the Jets OL is an overhauled group. A good deal of talent on paper with no chemistry. It's of paramount importance to get the OL performing as a top level as soon as possible.

At this point, I don't think there is any major rush, especilly from his end.  He has already missed most of the offseason program -- just a 3 day minicamp left.  I think he signs either here or Chicago before the start of training camp, but I don't expect it to be in the next few days.
