My advice for Zach when he returns

The NFL isn't like playing Madden at home in your basement.

You cannot only focus on one WR, if you do, especially if you and that WR are not exceptional talents, you're going to throw alot of INT's and incompletions in to double and triple coverage.

Spreading the ball around (within limits) is one of the best tools a young QB has to avoid such problems.

I would think the idea is make it clear youre trying to feed him.  Force the defense to double him, opening up Moore, Davis, Conklin etc.  One of the biggest advantages of having THAT GUY is that it forces the defense to adjust.

I agree but his progression is based on the play call. The comment should be more for ML. Build the offense around Garrett Wilson. The kid creates separation off the line of scrimmage. It’s amazing to watch.

Wilson’s first read should be to Wilson, one of Moore/Davis/Concklin second read, and 3rd read is dump off to the RB/run/throw the ball away. Nice and simple but should be effective. Build the offense this way and profit.

We also need more screen plays to Wilson, Hall, and Moore.

Jets can’t scale down the playbook in an effort to protect Wilson.

If he can’t go full tilt and have the ability to play off schedule…where he’s shined in the past - then he shouldn’t play.

Steelers will just jam the box and man-up on receivers daring him to drop back to try and execute medium and long passing plays.

I’m remaining hopeful and looking forward to a fresh start next Sunday.

Use G. Wilson as your Steffon Diggs.

I truly believe this is what unlocked Allen. Diggs gets open, and he was able to simplify the game by having Diggs be the primary option on most plays.

G. Wilson has the same special ability to get open, very similar styles. Zach should look at him as the first option on most plays, if he’s not open just check it down. If he’s obviously double teamed quickly go to your 2nd option or check it down.

Do not worry about spreading the ball around, manufacturing targets for guys, or keeping Elijah Moore happy.

G. Wilson needs 15-20 targets per game  .

Feed your clear #1, make the game simple, and run the ball.

Agreed. He should treat it like sixth-grade theater camp and have his mom come pick him up ASAP because there are things going on there the likes of which she would not approve.

The biggest disappointment so far?  The lack of pressure from our D-Line. When there was pressure yesterday, Burrow easily slipped away and made plays.  It’s supposed to be the strength of the defense.

Why would you expect pressure from our DL? Saleh stubbornly insists on rushing 4. You know it, I know it and the opposing team knows it. Without a player like Bosa or Donald, rushing 4 JAGs is just never ever ever going to work.  Bench Shepherd bring up Huff and run 3 downlineman and scheme diverse 4, 5 and occasional 3 and 6 man pressures. Static defensive strategys do not work

This.

1. Wilson -> Moore -> Flats/RB/TE

2. Moore -> Wilson -> Flats/RB/TE

3. TE -> Flats/RB

1-2-3 max reads, A, B then dumpoff.  Fast, speedy, get it out of your hands asap.

Not Wilson, Wilson, Wilson, Wilson.

Yup.  And while Stefon Diggs has indeed been a target monster this year (35, or 28 % of all pass attempts), Allen has still targeted 11 other pass-catchers thru 3 games this season:

  • RB Devin Singletary (16)
  • WR Isaiah McKenzie (15)
  • TE Dawson Knox (11)
  • WR Gabriel Davis (11)
  • WR Jamison Crowder (9)
  • RB Zack Moss (8)
  • RB James Cook (6)
  • FB Reggie Gilliam (6)
  • WR Jake Kumerow (5)
  • TE Quintin Morris (3)
  • WR Khalil Shakir (2)

And those non-Diggs targets have resulted in 67 catches (73 % completions) for 670 yards and 5 TDs.

Spreading the ball around is the ONLY way to go for a QB.  And fortunately, we have some pretty good depth in the pass-catching department.  Certainly we at least have some guys who are better than some of the receivers way down on the above list of Buffalo's target share.
