ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills confirmed Wednesday that coach Rex Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley will return next season even though the team fell short of Ryan's expectations.

"As our first full season as owners of the Buffalo Bills draws to a close, management, coaches, players, and fans all feel that our expectations were not met," Bills owner Terry Pegula said in a statement. "[Fellow owner] Kim [Pegula], [president] Russ [Brandon] and I look forward to working and collaborating with Doug Whaley and Rex Ryan in forming a winning future for the organization. Our management team and coaching staff are very capable and work well together. This stable foundation is necessary to achieve long term success in the NFL."

Maybe they're waiting till he has a real QB

I think you're joking here, but just in case you're not.... Tyrod Taylor was more than adequate this season. The "just give him a QB" argument fell flat on its face as the defense fell from 4th in 2014 under Marrone/Schwartz to 21st this year.

And even if one were to disagree that Taylor was any good...remember that he was handpicked by Rex from his Baltimore days. Failure would have meant it was Rex's fault alone.

The funny thing is, when all things were equal, the Bills were a better team than the Jets IN New York.

Since then, they've had 10+ injured starters that will not be able to suit up in Week 17.

How many starters are the Jets missing?

As if you guys needed your opponents to give you another break.

You guys act like Jets are playing with the same players as 2014 too.

You think Bowles would be in position to make the playoffs with Geno Smith at QB? Without Brandon Marshall? Without the improved D line? Without Chan Gailey? On and on it goes...

Nobody in the NFL would be winning with Geno at QB, I'm surprised you blame Rex for that.

At the very least you should appreciate Rex for what he did in New York when he had talent to work with as well. Why did he last 5 years as HC? Because he took you from cellar to playoffs the first couple of seasons when he had a halfway decent roster and he still did it with MARK SANCHEZ. The next 3 years? No coach in the NFL would have been able to succeed with that team.

And before you tell me "well Rex had talent in Buffalo" let's be clear, talented players mean nothing if you can't put them on the field on Sunday.

Your new GM is the reason this team is winning now moreso than anything else.

LUCK has been a major factor in your run this season, you must admit.

Believe me, things would be different if the Bills weren't decimated with injuries this season. That's what you should be thankful for more than anything else.

OK Pac, cut it out, we know this is you.

You cant fire a coach you signed for 5 years after 1 season.  But the Bills made a major mistake hiring this guy.  He is such a bad coach in every way.

we have tannenbaum running the dolphins into the ground and we have rex doing the same in buffalo.  we just need to get one of our past failures in NE.

It's almost as if Rex slips the word "injuries!" into every quote he makes for the past three months and every in-denial sh*tbird embarrassed by their pro-Rex posting history starts saying "injuries!" too. Funny how that works. It's almost as funny as forgetting that McCoy hurt his hamstring in pre-season but Rex ran him ragged the first two weeks anyway in an attempt to beat New England. Almost as funny as anointing a 6'1" scrambling QB and then acting surprised when he blows his knees out. ALMOST AS FUNNY as ignoring the near-historic penalty numbers, the mutiny on defense, the collapse of the defense statistically, and the constant stream of players quotes talking about a lack of discipline and leadership. BUT NOT NEARLY AS FUNNY AS those "injuries!" people willfully ignoring the fact that those same issues are Rex Ryan staples since he lost Mangini's Boy Scouts nearly a decade ago.

give him Aaron Rodgers, no injuries, a last place schedule, positive coverage in the local press, and a less punitive penalty system and a REAL OC and bring Jim Schwartz back to run the defense and look out!

Ray Handley and Richie Kotite would agree...Roll Tide

Enunwa/Powell/Pryor have been key factors in our run. These are players that were either used out of position last year or flat out not used at all. That's coaching. They were also out last time we played Buffalo. We have players coming from other teams (Marshall/Carpenter/Fitz/etc.) that are having career years. That's coaching. Mixing Marshall and Decker in the slot to find favorable match ups is coaching. We have put individuals into the position to succeed matching our schemes to their strengths. That is good coaching. What has Rex done? Dropped a top 5 defense to the cellar. Runs the wildcat with EJ Manuel. Drops back beast pass rushers into coverage. I wish the Bills many many more years of Rex Ryan.

What a crock.

Rex didnt take the Jets from the cellar. What the hell are you talking about? The Jets were 9-7 the year he took over then went 9-7 the first year. His high water mark was the following year at 11-5. Then with Rex having greater say in personnel decisions the team fell apart over the next 4 years.

Rex failed in NY and took essentially his entire failed coaching staff to Buffalo and continued his failure.

Keep on blaming injuries to escuse Rex's continued failure. Its better for the rest of the AFCE.

Rex's job was never in jeopardy up there. He was hired directly by the owner, and that owner would have to pay him $20+M to do nothing if he fired him. No, he'll give it at least another year before he pulls the plug. Whaley may've been somewhat on the hot seat, but otherwise this is a non-story.
