I trusted Ross more at punt returning than Marshall

The two biggest concerns with Marshall are drops and ball security.  He had a rough time holding onto balls thrown to him over the middle and he has shown a propensity to squirt the football onto the turf.  I'm not sure how easy it is to coach those things out of someone.   Stephen Hill never really came around.

Coughlin got Tiki to stop fumbling.  It's possible.

I think its more concentration for Marshall, Hill just didn't have any technique in catching the ball, Marshall literally catches the ball and then drops it thinking about the hit or where he is going next.  That will clean up with time I think.

Jalin Marshall is an AWESOME talent....him and Anderson are incredible...we may have the deepest WR corps in the league

That 1 year youth injection! Keep it going Macc!

I think Macc is trying to balance "win now" with building for the future.  He needed to bring Fitz back on a 1-year deal so that the Jets didn't tank to a 6-10 record.  But it seems clear that he's building towards 2017 and 2018, both with the QB competition he's setting up between Petty and Hack, as well as all these young WRs, LBs, etc.

Didn't the kid just turn 21?   Jets will have the best grip of WR for years to come

The biggest shocker would be to cut Hack. And try to put him on the PS. Another team would then have to put him on their 53 and carry him there for the entire year. And it would also allow Hack to choose his own team in terms of being on a PS. He would be a free agent if not picked up off of waivers.

Damn. Jets might lose out on a slow, inaccurate, shell shocked mental midget that panics against 3rd teamers and wildly chucks the ball up for grabs.

Full update:

  • Claude Pelon the undrafted rookie defensive end out of USC has been released, but his agent David Canter tweeted that the Jets will look to stash him on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
  • Tarow Barney and undrafted rookie defensive tackle from Penn State has been released.
  • Antone Smith the veteran running back never had much of a chance as long as the other running backs got healthy.
  • Trevor Reilly the outside linebacker and special teams specialist fate was sealed when the Jets took this offseason to upgrade the depth at linebacker.
  • Darryl Morris the cornerback flashed occasionally but was beat far more often and clearly didn't flash enough to secure a spot on the roster.
  • Mike Liedtke the undrafted offensive lineman has been waived.
  • Doug Middleton the undrafted safety out of Appalachian State had a fantastic start to camp but an injury took valuable reps away from him and the Jets have decided to release him. If Middleton clears waivers he should be a virtual lock for the practice squad. It looks like the Jets will roll with Ronald Martin over Middleton as their fourth safety, I would've kept Middleton though.
  • Zach Sudfeld 'baby Gronk' just never came close to living up to the nickname. Note: stop nick naming people 'baby someone,' it's a death kiss. Seriously. Sudfeld being cut could be good news for Jace Amaro as it hasn't looked good for Amaro recently but unless the Jets completely abandon all their tight ends Amaro will stick around for a little while longer.
  • Craig Watts a few weeks ago I would've responded to this move with a 'yeah, of course,' but Watts came on really strong the past few weeks and looked to earn a spot on a team lacking any type of depth on the offensive line.
  • Freddie Bishop III the outside linebacker from the CFL won't be able to be the next Cameron Wake if he's not on a roster and he's no longer on the Jets roster.
  • Taiwan Jones signed with the Jets as an undrafted rookie before last season and finished the preseason strong but like Trevor Reilly, Jones fell victim to the numbers game with an upgraded linebacking core.
  • Jeremy Ross the receiver/kick return is a surprising release. He was clearly the best, safest kick return this past month and did some good things as a receiver too. But with Jalin Marshall having such an outstanding camp the Jets clearly decided to go young. Marshall will make this roster, as should Robby Anderson.

Let's see if he stays on the roster. He could finally end up on the PS. And some guys just cut could end up playing next Sunday. Mac will evaluate things at the end of the day and if guys he wants from other teams he either can't get them or he signs them and they don't impress in practice guys could be re-signed. It happens a lot. Sudfeld could end up in that category.

Funny, I've been pretty critical of Mac all of the off season and some of his homers (you know those who think he can do no wrong) have ripped me for it. Overall he's ok but there are significant things we can argue about that he's done that smack of incompetency. I think the cuts today have been sound ones.

Uhm, you guys/gals realize that none of this means anything if we cannot keep our QB standing up, right? You could have Paul Warfield, Jerry Rice, Bob Hayes, Michael Irvin and whoever else you want as WR, if the QB is rushed constantly and hit a lot your passing game will stink regardless.

I am VERY worried about our OL.

We will have to gameplan for this the same way we did last year. That's what made Fitz worth 12mil. The ball needs to come out in 2 sec or less.

The line is no worse than last year.

Only if injured.

A lot of Gailey's system involves quick reads and quick throws, get the ball to the playmakers and get yards after the catch. A lot of times last year we avoided sacks because the ball was out fast, and guys like Marshall and Decker, and hopefully Enunwa, are guys who will attack the ball and make the play even if it's not a perfect throw. They also get extra yardage themselves.

Hopefully with Anderson's height and his catching technique he can fit in on that front, and not just be a "deep ball" guy.

Brick > Clady IMO. Breno way way > than Ijalana/Qvale who both got schooled against deli clerks last Thursday. I hope you are right, however, I do not share your confidence. Also, we could not run a lick in the PS, now I know it is just the PS, but if we cannot run the ball, we are dead. Yes scheming should help, but with no TE and such a questionable OL, against the beasts in orange next week....well to quote Captain Quint in Jaws:

Fair well and adieu to you fine Spanish ladies, fare well and adieu to you Ladies of Spain, for we've received orders for to sail back to Boston, and so nevermore will we see you again".
