The New York Jets' quarterback situation is a mess. So that led NJ.comto inquire about who might be a future QB.

And, of course, the Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo came up.

Romo is injured and set to return for Week 8, but rookie Dak Prescott is playing so well, some are wondering if the Cowboys shouldn't just keep Prescott as the starter.

So after a bunch of ifs, here's one more. If Romo were available, would the Jets be interested?

"If that becomes a possibility," one league source told NJ.com, "yes. Absolutely. You have to. No questions asked."

The Jets' current starter Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown 10 picks in four games. They also have Geno Smith, who has never shown he can be a reliable starter. Both are likely to be gone. NJ.com says: "That leaves the Jets with rookie Christian Hackenberg, and last year's fourth-round pick Bryce Petty, as the only quarterbacks under contract heading into the 2017 season."

But what about Romo's age (36) and injury history? When asked if the Jets could look past any injury concerns, a source told the site, "I would think so. He's fragile, no question about it, but the Jets are in a win-now situation. Those guys on that team are old. You can't go into next season with Petty or Hackenberg, unless you make the decision to rebuild."

Romo's massive contract means the Cowboys likely won't cut him (they would take too much of a salary cap hit). So Romo would have to restructure his deal and maybe a trade would have to happen.

"Dallas isn't going to cut him," a second source told NJ.com. "Plus, Jerry loves the guy. He loves Tony. He's not going anywhere."

But as NJ.com pointed out: "It wasn't long ago that the Jets made an improbable trade to acquire an aging Brett Favre from the Packers in 2008."

Stupid; by the time he comes back, gets released, signs and learns the playbook the season will likely be over for us (or we are happy with Fitz). Also, why would Dallas get rid of him mid-season if they are still in the hunt (if not is Dak really that good)? what happens is Dak gets hurt? IF they move on from Romo, it will be after the season.

Also, how much are you willing to give up for a 36 year old QB who has been hurt too many times? Would Romo even come to NY? Are you talking about for next year? Silly article.

Another Brett Favre one year rental, another waste of a year not developing one of our own drafted QB's. I like Romo but no thanks.

Romo will give you 6 good games, 4 bad games and another 6 on the IR. No thanks.

Tony Romo is a very good QB.  His teammates like him, respect him, and he would provide a major upgrade at the position.

My lone concern about Romo is whether or not his body will allow him to continue playing.

Cutler is a schmuck.  No franchise, players, coaches, or fans have ever fought to keep him.  He was run outta Denver.  He is being run outta Chicago.  He will be run outta wherever he winds up next.  No thanks.

I laughed at that too. I doubt that anyone in any sports bar in or around New York or NJ is saying "hey did you hear the chatter" Jets fans want Romo

Makes sense. If you list all the unconscionably dumb sh*t Maccagnan has done, this is the next logical step.

Best part would be the week of "I told you so" gloating after his first 375 yard game...until he goes on IR on his first sack the following week, after which if you say anything then you're rooting for the Jets to lose. As though you didn't hate the idea of bringing him in from the get go.

2nd best part is he's so expensive, and we've left so little room to improve without another $20M/yr in 2017+, hat seeing what Maccagnan would do to make him fit would make Mike Tannenbaum blush.

Holy **** no.

He's injury prone and has never been a great QB. You can point to some stats that show he's great but you watch him play, which is increasingly harder with his injuries, and it's not good. He's at best a middling QB who has had an entire team built for his success. It's also well established that he is a tremendous prima donna, no doubt thanks to Jerry Jones coddling him and paying him ridiculous contracts. You can see how hard of a time Dallas has just holding on to backup QBs because nobody wants to work around him.

Even if Romo were a desirable option there's no way we could support Fitz's contract plus Romo's contract.

This "chatter" is undoubtedly bullsh*t made up by Manish and other hacks in sports media.

This is right out of the Woody playbook.  Fitz is done in Ny unless he quickly improves, and he is not worth it if he takes the offseason off again.

The Jets would be tempted to dot his rather than a Hoyer type.   He could play the role of veteran backup, but not for more than 8mm, and not higher than a 5th round pick.

Prescott is 4th round pick cheap for 4 years.   He will get hurt.  Jones and Romo should do the honorable thing and play out his contract.   The Prescott story has more to tell.
