ncjetman 96
I admittedly don’t watch much college football so my exposure to and opinions of college players is limited - I did however see Ohio State v Clemson and Fields looked awesome - in the Championship game he looked mediocre at best - can the naysayers help me understand why he’s a bad choice at 2 if we keep the pick and jettison Darnold? Beerfish 35,361
I don't think there is much hate at all. He has fallen behind Wilson in many peoples minds but a lot of people are not sure who is the better player they both have really good attributes and some questions.

Paradis 13,109
To answer the OP's question -- I don't think anyone "hates" him, but i also don't think anyone consciously knows why its become popular to be disenfranchised with Fields. Have you ever read Gladwell's tipping point? It explores how social phenomenon's happen - how things essentially go viral in life. Anyway, happens all the time in the draft. It's like the opposite of FOMO in the investment world. 3
Popular Post joewilly12 25,580
Once the NY Jets lost out on TL everyone hated every other QB that was available in the draft. The keep Sam Darnold lovefest started. We are a QB needy fanbase afraid to commit to another failure. 4 1 2
johnnysd 8,154
I think I can explain it a little. Greg Cossell made a point that talent evaluators at the QB position look for 2 things: Skills and traits. Skills are things like accuracy, placement, release, timing football knowledge. etc. Traits are things like height/weight, speed, arm strength, quickness, etc Some evaluators prefer QBs with better traits because they tend to have a higher ceiling Some evaluators prefer QBs with better skills that can translate to the NFL level Obviously every QB is a combination of these two things. I think what has happened is that if you are comparing Wilson and Fields, Wilson is farther ahead in skills, than Fields is ahead of Wilson in traits. Does not mean people are hating Fields. FWIW I think that JD is more of a traits guy and might prefer Fields, but Saleh and LaFleur are tied to a specific offensive system which Wilson is better suited for so they will likely be really pro Wilson. I guess I am in the skills camp. I am not a big traits guy. 2
oatmeal 1,141
I feel Chris Sims criticisms of Fields was fair but I don’t agree with him ranking Fields so low on his Top QBs list. That being said a lot of it is school bias.

Popular Post Greenbloodblitz 3,233
Go watch all the highlights on YouTube from each individual player being the top five or six rated quarterbacks in the 2021 draft and picture them in a Jets uniform. Then I suggest watching interviews with each individual player. This is really important. If drafted this is the person you will be rooting for, and live and die with as our team leader after every game each week at the podium. Feel free to compare them to Sam Darnold. The year we drafted Sam I wanted Mayfield. Last year I wanted Herbert. I don't follow college football much either, but this is how I assess players. I picture them in our Jersey and how they will play in the NFL. Not what they did in college or who they played against in college. I want to know what the individual is made of and how adaptable they are to the new situation they will be in. Justin Fields is the guy who stood out to me this year upon my first assessment. He was Stronger, tougher, he seems to have an attitude or chip on his shoulder that I think we need leading the New York Jets. They say you don't know the character of a man until you see how he reacts when he is in crisis. Go see for yourself. 7

I learned not to take myself seriously years ago I never intentionally say anything to upset anyone, I got no hate for anybody. I'd rather laugh at myself than attack any individual for real here. It's tough though given my nature these days and people being all sensitive about everything

My take is that Fields had ALL DAY to throw at Ohio State. He'll have half the amount of time with the Jets. People are skeptical he'll be able to make those throws with so little time. RVAJet815 916
I don’t hate Fields at all. I just see him as QB3 and we have the 2nd pick in the draft. Would I be actively mad if he’s a jet? No. But Would I be happy? Well, no. No, not really . That doesn’t mean I hate the guy. I just like a couple of other QB more

neckdemon 50,617
watch his highlights.....almost every throw is with him having tons of time and throwing to a ridiculously open receiver. the concern is that you don't that type of time and those types of open receivers in the nfl too often
