McGovern - Jets FO “got rid of all the bad apples”

Then why is he bringing in bad apples! Why!!

Some teams operate under the belief that their coaching and culture can “fix” a few bad apples. I don’t know if that was JDs view but regardless it is nice to see that he has learned from his experience and takes action to correct mistakes.

Win!! Winning breeds culture! We haven’t done anything yet, but we are on the right path. Win and this team will be set up for years ahead, even when Rodgers is not a part of it. Our young studs have already made a legit name from themselves and are not trying to force stats to get paid. They are already going to get paid. Once you win, everyone wants to be a part of that and if you aren’t on board, someone else will easily replace you and be a part of it.

This makes no sense ..you don't trade away the obvious heir apparent to Rodgers.

Was Robin the heir apparent to Batman?  Zach is Rodgers ward not his heir apparent.

Ward:  A guardian is a person or institution appointed by a judge to take care of and be legally accountable for a person who cannot take care of himself or herself. The person that the guardian is responsible for is called the ward. Wards are either minor children or incapacitated persons.

In this case the Judge was a three person panel.  Woody, Joe and Bobby.

Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake all became their own person at fighting crime, and quite good at it. NightWing, Red Hood and Red Robin respectively. You can't replace Batman but they were everything as good as he was. With Tim Drake being a better detective.

Damian Wayne, the current Robin,  eventually took over as Batman.

So, what exactly is the issue?

You are supposed to know that someone is going to work out perfectly when you draft them?  Have you ever hired an individual who put on their best face during an interview, found the right people to vouch for them as a reference, were glad to have them part of the team, and then didn't actually work out?  Did you get rid of them?

So, when the current FO does exactly what they are supposed to do, they are now chastised for doing something that every business in America has done?

I don't get it Beer.  Just don't get it.

Not chastised, no.

But not given any particular credit or praise either.

The bad hire outweighs how quickly you fire them.

ZW isn’t disliked in the locker room. As much as people hate to hear that

Disliked?  Maybe not.  Do Jets players go out of their way to defend him, call him a leader, talk about him being a great guy, etc etc?  Also no, not so much.

Put it this way:  A team that really likes a QB wouldn’t all wear t-shirts with the backup’s face on it for a couple weeks:

Everyone hires bad people. It is what happens in the people business. Just about anyone can "interview" well. Like you said, how long does it take you to get rid of them, when you realize what they are. Some can never do it and it eats an organization inside out.

Honestly, that is a bad look for leadership.

Found Kevin Costners draft day movie quite interesting. Showed how a big business like the NFL can be manipulated bye prospects and their agents. Just how deep do you dig into the lives of the prospects does your team ask the right questions of the right people. Many years ago I was applying with a Defense Contractor and the position would require a security clearance, they interviewed former neighbors, classmates from over 10 years back as well as teachers. How deep these conversations went was really interesting. When millions are in play the extent both sides will go is mind boggling. Takes a lot too see behind the scenes of manipulation that movie mentioned gives a small glimpse into what goes into some of the decision making.

I watched "The Whale" yesterday. That showed me how not regulating your diet and eating your angst can be hazardous to your health.

It definitely must have stung Zach but I think there's a case to be made for it being a "rally around the new guy" moment. It was clear that Zach wasn't starting again that year unless Mike White's ribs exploded. I try not to get too sucked into the Wilson discourse these days but he was abysmal and the team knew it.
