FIFA requires natural grass surfaces for all World Cup games, so MetLife will be converting for those games in two years.
We'll see if they can come up with something that stays for all other events as well.

There will also be required renovations at MetLife to comply with FIFA

Back to MetLife getting grass, this is positive news.

They did it at the old stadium last time they hosted WC games, they built a platform over the turf for the grass fields if I remember correctly.

No one cares about soccer .

Incredible that people who believe this still exist.  Matches overseas dominate the U.S. twitter/X feed every Saturday.   The Premier League, La Liga and Serie A all have major TV contracts. It’s baseball that needs to go the f*ck away…

Oh yeah, Woody and Mara need to keep the grass…

wait, what?

Pretty sure there have been soccer games hosted at MetLife before that they’ve had to put grass down for. Not a soccer guy so perhaps not MLS but I could’ve sworn there was some international friendlies there before

This is fun because every athlete and journalist who’s ever stepped foot in MetLife is bombarding social media with panicked tweets about Messi blowing out both ACLs on the turf.

On Metlife turf, he'll blow out all 3 of his ACLs.

Yeah this is all because of the bajillions of people who have entered this country who love Soccer since 2008.

Pre 2008 was not that big a deal here.

Can't wait to pay $300 to watch Tajikistan Vs. New Zealand at Metlife, honestly.

World Cup is biggest event in the World, so quite the accomplishment for Metlife, SB host and WC final.

Get that Natural Grass down and pray it doesn't rain!

I can’t believe they are holding the World Cup Final in that dump

They bragging about how MetLife has "public transportation access". Have any of these morons ever taken the PATH/Seacacus train link from Penn Station to and from an event at MetLife? Picture English  soccer hooligans after  day drinking at a World Cup match at MetLife on a 90 degree 100 humidity day in MetLife getting on that postgame  train platform.

In 1994 Giants Stadium did manage to host Ireland/Italy, which was kinda cool.

Some enterprising young man should requisition a fleet of those old Riker’s Island transport buses and retrofit them for this exact purpose.

Can barely spell the name of this place, and I have to transfer here? Did you NJ MFers make up the name of this town? Don't go blaming the Indians .

Sadly since then, they've watered it down immensely. 24 teams expanding to 48 in 2026 kind of makes all group games pointless.

I'm hoping we get some good matchups at Metlife, would be cool to watch a meaningful WC game there.
