He will be resigned at a low price or he will play elsewhere.

Child support calls and he is still better than many at the position. Has about 1 more year left IMO.

I had the same issue when Rex was here: you sign a coach who's supposed to be a defensive guru, but then you go out and pool all your resources into the one area that the coach's talents are supposed to supplement. With Rex it was DL, with Bowles it's DBs. He had Revis and a bunch of draft pick DBs on the roster already. Go make it work.

'Cro' Returned for His 5th Season in Green & White After Arriving in Trade from San Diego for 2010-13

The Jets have released cornerback Antonio Cromartieicon-article-link.gif.

Cromartie, the 10-year pro, finished his second tour of duty with the Green & White this past season. The Jets traded with San Diego for him in 2010 and he was a Jet for four seasons, from 2010-13. He was released in 2014 and spent that season as a starter with Arizona under then-defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. He was signed by the Jets as an unrestricted free agent last March 12.

This past season "Cro" had 33 tackles, two tackles for loss, both against Jacksonville, a fumble recovery in the season opener against Cleveland, and a team-leading 16 pass defenses, three coming against Tennessee. "Cro" also had the most kickoff returns for the Jets, 15 in all for a 25.1-yard return average.

Cromartie, who began his NFL career as the Chargers' first-round choice, 19th overall, in '06, has 34 career interceptions in the regular season and playoffs, 13 of them coming as a member of the Jets. He made 78 regular-season and three postseason starts for the Jets.

Cro's biggest problem with the Jets was that he played alongside one of the greatest cover corners in NFL history. Sure that usually meant he got some more help, but he also got targeted more often and was never going to look good playing next to a guy that was as good Revis. I wouldn't mind taking him back for peanuts, but his time has a high end corner is over.

Possible that these guys get that reputation because of the guys they have out there already?

Should have never been signed.

Not according to the last year of Idzik. People were screaming for him to be resigned.

I also heard some people on here say that Cromartie was going to come back because of Bowles. Wrong again.

Shows the genius of Mac that we can cut him in one year and save cap space and find a younger Cro (Marcus Williams) ready to go

Too many people didn't realize this when Cro was signed, they THOUGHT the contract was 4 years / 32 million.

But it was really a one year deal with no cap ramifications

cromartie

As expected, the New York Jets have released Cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Cro started his second journey with the Jets after playing in Arizone under current Jets head coach Todd Bowles.

“This past season “Cro” had 33 tackles, two tackles for loss, both against Jacksonville, a fumble recovery in the season opener against Cleveland, and a team-leading 16 pass defenses, three coming against Tennessee. “Cro” also had the most kickoff returns for the Jets, 15 in all for a 25.1-yard return average.

Cromartie, who began his NFL career as the Chargers’ first-round choice, 19th overall, in ’06, has 34 career interceptions in the regular season and playoffs, 13 of them coming as a member of the Jets. He made 78 regular-season and three postseason starts for the Jets,” reports Randy Lange.

Cromartie was one year into a four-year $32 million contract, including a non-guaranteed $8 million.

Jets fans are sounding off on the release of Antonio Cromartie in our forums.

Really, no one ever gets hurt on a one year deal.

Did he play up to it, no.  But now he's gone, no dead money, and if they really want, they can bring him back cheaper.

You mean the countless posts crying that he wasnt worth $32 mil were for nothing?

That Macc was nuts and this signing cancelled out Revis?

Definitely an interesting move, but one that I don't think surprises any of us. Since I doubt he will be scooped up immediately, there is a chance that he could come back at a reduced rate, depending on what Jets do in free agency and the draft.
